My mate has an A5 and I'm considering getting one also, however we are looking at starting competition skirmish..

Would we be advised against getting an A5 for comps? If so, what should we be getting? As you can tell we're noobs to the whole comp scene

as everyone will tell you, it depends on how much you want to spend.

Action Paintball has some good packages

OK next time mate have a quick look around and do a bit of searching, As for the a5 fro playing tournys mate i would not recomend it.

As it is a little bigger it will restrict movement and the ability to play nice and tight in towards your bunker.
I would infact recomend the Smartparts ION they are cheap, you can play WOODS BALL as well as TOURNAMENTS and they will keep up with the more expensive counterparts

A-5's for tourney are a no go.

Frog is right, if the budget is around the $1k mark complete go the ION

Check out action paintball. They have a tonne of packages to suit every budget.

A5s dont leave much to the imigination, you can get a few upgrades for them, i believe you cant upgrade the hopper though,
That puts it out in my books.
ION would be the way to go!

i've watched the a5 standard hopper feed 20bps - over the chrony. - its got nothing to do with the hopper - its the cyclone - everytime you pull the trigger it does feed another ball.
the A5 could be made competitive as far as rof goes- Egrip -new WAS board, double trigger + QEV - but its still a big marker compared to tourney styled markers. -and you wont get much respect for going out there with one - tis not pimpin enough.

it all depends on what sort of game you enjoy - competition - go the ion - bush bashing - nothing wrong with the a5.

Just make sure that Air is available where you play before you choose an Ion.

A number of markers now are not recommended to be run on CO2
