No pink or orange.

I've tried dying a couple of egg bodies two different ways but the colour didn't seem to take. Let me know how you go.

u can do whatever you want to it Frog just dont have multiple colours ie camo and airbrushing whatever theres no rules on the matter just that it mustn't be clear. Smoked eggs are acceptable i think and they are barely smoked so as long as its a half decent effort at colouring it that should be ok.

wat u think

If you want to try to dye it so it's similar to a smoke or a coloured original I'd try using lense paint. I've used it on plastics before and it works really well and can be bought in a few different colours. If anyone else has tried this please post as just thinking about it now I might even try my own idea on my egg.

be interested to see how this works as I thought general painting of hoppers were classed as banned.

I dont know what the lense paint you are talking about is so for all i know it could be like a dye apllication process.

No pink or orange.

I heard that pink is no longer a restricted color. I'll download the 2005 NPPL rules and check.

I wonder how it would go if you used that "Chameleon or harlequin paint", you know the stuff that appears to change colour dependant on the angle that its viewed at? I guess it could be classed as one solid colour. It could be argued that if they allow face masks that are coated in that stuff, why not a hopper?

Yeah it used to be Rainmans. It was good but from memory it chipped a bit. That was a nice double paddle viewloader (clear) that was pollished so you could see through. unlike the frosted look of the viewloader. then the paint job on the battery area.

LOL
good luck.
Last time we painted a mates car in this it was retail: $996 a litre for the PPG Chamelion and you need a base coat colour, plus the finishing clear coat. Mega bucks if your not a spraypainter.
If you scratch the paint the colour changes along the scratch line straight away.

Ive used a 'RIT' Scarlet Red dying pigment (about $7 bucks).
Dump the dye into a pot of water that will fit the shell of the hopper.
The Slowly raise the temperature of the dye solution to boiling point so you dont warp the shell and allso cool it down slowly to avoid warping.

Be carefull with the lid as it a different, softer plastic to the shell and it stains easily at a lower temperature, but warps at boiling point.

(My brother in law has a degree in chemistry for dying clothes, carpet etc........weird, but helpful) :)

This is maily used for clothing but it works well on the hoppers & Ive allso used it to anodize aluminium Red.

Thats the same stuff I used on my hopper, but I blended some orange into it. Just a pity that the orange seemed to stick better than the red:( Make sure that the first time you dye the hopper, that it's the exact colour you want, because I've found that any subsequent dying doesn't do jack to the plastic. Oh and I wasn't game enough to put the pot on the stove, so that may have been an issue too. Hope to see those pics Matches:thumbsup:

The Red colour I had to do 3 times and use very hot water to get it to stick.
Ill get some pics up soon

Yeah you generally need that sort of heat so the plastic expands and absorbs the dye, thats why you run it under cold water when you're done so the plastic contracts and traps the dye within its cells :o
