Well I just got mine inspected today, before my application was approved.....Mr. Plod was wondering why I needed one so large as "the maximum you will be allowed to put on your Licence will be 2 by Cheap and 2 by Expensive Markers" .....he couldn't elaborate as to the definition of Cheap OR Expensive as today was the first time he had seen a Paintball Marker in person apart from on TV.
Yes he was equally amazed when I produced my Cybog in its soft case with the barrels being about 40 cm sqaure to the police station (I was asked to hand over my marker till my application is approved....me and my stupid questions about storing other team-mates markers), I think he was expecting some kind of monstrosity the size of a stinger missile. :p
Last note.....He was also wondering why I identified the MAKER of the Cyborg as Mac Developments when it had a DYE hand-grip on it (he had just done his first ever inspection of a painball marker in my general area and it was some kind of DYE brand marker)
All he seemed concerened about the safe was that it was fixed to the wall securely.

And here I was about to make a joke about the guy who asked if he should produce his marker during the application period.... He still thinks you are trying to register a DYE MAC marker...
BTW, the Bunnings safe passed inspection for marker storage.

Sweet i was wondering the same thing checked out one place in nsw they wanted $975 for one bout the size of a small bar fridge, bunnings are a shitload cheaper

might be different in nsw for you i heard something about u need a higher level safe with thicker steal and stuff...i know in the other states the tool case safes like u get for bunnings and stuff are fine..safes normally just have to be sturdy, not easilty penatrable and attached to the wall or floor.

Hey Lizard what do the cops need to know about the safe, do they do a surprise visit or just providing a receipt is ok ??

I think it might depend on the specific officer, but if you are registering your marker around Joondalup and surrounding suburbs, the firearms officer can and does request entry to your premises to perform an inspection of your storage facilities. There is the facility to sign a statutory declaration as to the suitability of your storage facilities, but the Joondalup officer wants give it the eyeball. You sign a document agreeing to entry to your premises to perform the inspection, and he'll sign the document when he is satisfied with the facilities after the inspection.

The confusion with your Cyborg with the DYE grips probably comes from my application to register a DM4.

they have to inspect your safe in place to see if it complies with regulations

When I first put in the paperwork as it was suggested to be filled out (bar the MAKER & SERIAL No.), I included pictures of the safe, showing dimmensions, attachment points and type used, locking mechanisms, letter from the company that Manifactured it (stating that model complied to Shcedule 4 specs.), the letter from the Fire-arms Branch in Perth Central to the Manifacturer stating that the model had passed the Schedule 4 tests), copies of my drivers liscence, the approval to shoot on club premisis, etc. (alot more than they needed.
I did however speak to the wrong officer first, the Fire-arms administration officer (Mr. Plod for the sake of this conversation) was not there.....so another officer (Miss Plod for the sake of this conversation) asked all the questions.....wanted to know why I hadn't filled out the MAKER & SERIAL No. I replied that "as I don't yet have a Licence, I couldn't rightly own one yet".
Leaving Miss Plod with all the above paperwork to be handed onto the correct person.....yes she forgot to fill out her part that should have had all my phone numbers on it. This lead them to ring the owner of the Sponsoring Field, who rang my Girlfriend to get my number, to ring me (this probably contributed to Mr. Plod not being happy when I approached him to answer and problems he had the next day).
When I spoke to Mr. Plod he was not in to good a mood (took him away from doing a evidence summary for a court case I believe), he spoke to me in very basic terms trying to run the hard line like I was applying for a UZI or a toy of that liking (he didn't work out till later that day during the inspection that I have a fairly decent understanding of Fire-arms and the Laws/Regulations concerning them, thanks to my previous employment). He tried to make it very clear that you cannot use or store other peoples markers (did take a few minutes to get him to realise some players are still living at home and have parents that don't like hammer drills being used on walls...lol, use them outside of the Sponsoring Field OR get more than 2 Cheap & 2 Expensive Markers on you licence. :armed:
After he realised that YES I did have possesion of a Marker (he did ask as a direct question and YES you do have to answer it truthfully OR you will get into serious trouble) he gave me the riot act and sent me on my way to fetch it. Could be worthwhile just stating you are looking to purchase one once approved for a licence.
Once I delivered it to Mr. Plod (his face was far less red by this point) he issued a reciept to me stating that it would be placed in their armoury for safe keeping till my application is finallised, then it would be handed back (that was re-assuring).....Mr.Plod then proceded to tell me he would be around at 5pm that day to look at my Safe (excellent that gives me 2 hours to shut down the clandestine drug lab, send all the Girls back to the streets , all the Johns home to their wifes, finnish chopping that Commodore, diss-assemble the home-still and sweep the floors)
Mr. Plod turned up about an hour late took a 30 second look, asked to be pointed to a flat surface, gave me paperwork to sign stating he had inspected it. Oddly enough the first line starts out "As you are a person licensed to possess firearms and/or ammunition you are......." did I skip a step ahead of the 28 days or something?.....I wish :D
Before he left, he did ask the question about the DYE handgrip.....Lol
By the way yes those Bunnings safes do comply to schedule 4, but they too have to be bolted in two places and two sides to a permenant structure ($69 for safe, $39 x 2 Ozito 13mm hammer drills....yes the second one only just made it through too, $8 cheapo Metal drill set....every size except the one you need, $12 x 3 Good Metal drill bits the right size.....yes the third one only just made it too, thats abot $200 dollars not including the fuel used for 3 trips, your labour...4.5 hours, the 2 holes that just wouldn't go through, nagging missus that just wants you to finally finnish and have your dinner at 10:30 at night and the burn from one of those hot blunt drill bits, the crushed thumb from the door slamming shut at he wrong time and the telly now having to have the sound at maximum because you didn't think the $2 ear plugs were a good investment :thumbsdow .....buy a regular, run of the mill fire-arms safe $200 plus 30 minutes labour and one drill bit
My dad bought a 5ft square, 2.5ton ex-bank safe, some years ago where we used to live.....it too had to be bolted down

It looks like I had a very similar experience to you - spoke to another officer as the firearms officer wasn't there, didn't supply serial etc as I expecting that step after the 28 days, got phone message from firearms officer about having to supply said details. Played ring the answering machine for a day or two before leaving details on message bank. Eventually got through to officer to confirm details sufficient. Organised 5:00pm inspection that turned into 5:45pm inspection. 30 seconds, nearest flat surface, discussed YOUR posession of the marker you were attempting to register.

PS - the Bunnings safe was $40, my drill was not up to the job, but the neighbors industrial impact drill went through the cement floor like it was made out of hot butter.

Hrmm....they failed to tell me this down at subi cop shop...Filled in my application some 20 days ago, and as its been said I thought once I am licenced I then get my markers put on the licence....
Still no call from anyone down there to tell me otherwise...What do you guys believe would be the best action? Sit out the remaining 8 odd days or take in my markers

Always keep incontact with licensing.. keep names, times, and phone numbers in a diary.
Never ever believe Police phone calls, always ask what the "Best thing is to do" and ask written or faxed confirmnation.
The onus in on YOU to do the right thing, not the Police licensing to feed you the correct info.
They make mistakes like any other institution. Call them.. get a contact number for ONE person and ask for that person every time until the licence etc is 100% correct.
2. Storage requirements.
· All firearms (including air rifles) must be stored in accordance with Schedule (4) of the regulations This involves a steel cabinet which meets very specific criteria. However, under Section 11 of the regulations, alternative arrangements may be approved in certain circumstances. Ammunition must be stored in a separate locked container which also meets the specifications set down in Schedule (4). Propellants must be held in accordance with the Explosives and Dangerous Goods Act 1961.

bazza wait the other 8 days ring the police station that you have been dealing with and ask for the firearms officer then tell them that you want to continue with your application they will then send it to firearms at central
this should take about a week.from what i have been told get your safe now and get it inspected then it should all fall into place when you go and get your licence.
they have told me that my marker should be at a dealer or i can leave it with them.
when you go in to get your licence if your marker is with a dealer then the police will issue you with a permit so you can pick it up and take it back to the police station. this is what the morley branch firearms officer has told me. she wants me to keep it with them because her and her partner havent even seen a paintball marker.

All in all its good to see everyone getting their licenses.
I'm not sure about this 2 cheap and 2 expensive markers on your license.
I've got 4 Sonic Cyborgs on mine with no dramas.
Warwick cop shop is easy to deal with, I basically told him what to do , he went and checked it out, dealt with it no dramas. If Warwick is your local you wont have a prob

Guys
There is no cheap / expensive rule.
All you need to do is justfly why you want more than one marker.
Say you go to licence 10 of the same marker, they will ask why you need 10 of the same. (there is no lawful justification)
However if you had different types of markers electric, mechanical, O2/ Co2, nitro, which had different uses then there will be no problem in getting a few
(well done on gettin 4 cyborgs you will find you are but a few who got them through on the same licence)
What was your justification on why you needed 4 of the same?

I simply told them they were guns for a team and that the other boys didnt have gun licenses(I allready had a firearms license)and to get them legally straight away i would put them all on my license while the other boys filled out their paperwork and waited the 28 days without having to give over the markers.
No probs.
The policeman involved actually came to my house on Sat morning as he had made a mistake on the letter that they provide you with after you get your license. We had bit of a chat but said there was no probs with the licensing.

do the boxes you got from bunnings have a keyed lock or a provision for a padlock.
i went to bunnings morley yesterday and the only metal boxes they had were keyed lock ones but the hinges were really flimsy and were just riveted on and going on what the morley firearms officer has told me they wont pass if the hinges can be cut or smashed off.

i picked up a 400 x 200 x 350 safe from bunnings 4 around $120 it is quite big and can fit a cyborg gun case in it and can fit any other cases basically
Warpaint
21-03-2005, 04:07 PM
The bunnings safe are a electronic keypad lock with a key for backup if the batteries die. The hinge is recessed inside the safe, with a lip around the top - if you were to drill out the hinges you can't lift out the door. The safe is big enough to take the mainbody of the marker, without the barrel and the air bottle attached.

Is that the one that bunnings has listed as a " Laptop Safe " ?
They have a few different types for sale.. haven't personally seen that one - but from description, it should also pass specification for holding a marker/s.

hey wade
i went to bunnings morley and just ask for a laptop safe.
ah ok. Ive seen small safes in the rockingham bunnings with the key pad on the front ? but i didnt think they would come close to passing police inspection ? do they have holes to be bolted down or do you have to modify them ?

18-04-2005, 09:37 PM
Wade,
Most of the Bunning safes should be alright. I grabbed one that only cost $45 from Rockingham. Has the electronic keypad with key backup. I think it is about 350w x 250h x250d. It fits my Angel with the air system separated.
The cop that came around said they are good enough, as long as it is bolted to 2 different surface in 2 places.
Dont understand why ppl need to spend huge amounts of money on a safe to store one marker. Fair enough if they have a few, but for the price, the one I got is good use.
really ? so did u have to modify it ? put holes somewhere to be bolted down ? or does it come with holes ? Because i went to bunnings and asked em and they didnt know what the #### i was on about  ill have to go ask for a lap top safe.
Also...will these safes from bunnings hold most markers ? with air and hopper detatched ? Those tippmans look quite large. can you remove any barrel from any marker ? to fit in these small safes ? or only some barrels detach ?
Bazza
19-04-2005, 11:27 PM
You would probably be hard pressed to fit in a tippman (98?) as they are quite large...
As for barrels, you can take them off almost every self respecting marker :D
