I'm looking for some advice regarding knee pads/guards.

I've looked online, and there are endless types of knee pads/guards. I've know doubt that strap-on external knee guards work really well, but almost everyone that I've spoken to that's worn one type or another complains that they often shift about, and the straps are somewhat unreliable and can be a nuisance. Having said that, I've heard that soldiers often sew in some type of belt loops (vertically) on the sides of their pants, above and below their knees, so they can thread their knee guard straps through them to keep them in place.

From looking at all the gear online, I've just come across a variety of knee inserts, designed for pants with knee pockets for this very reason. I think the knee inserts sound like a great idea, but I have very loose camouflage pants (deliberately so), and I'm thinking these inserts might move around quite a bit because my pants are quite loose.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with both knee guards and inserts, and can offer me some specific advice here? I'm fairly sure that both types offer good protection, but it's the hassle of pads/guards or inserts shifting about that I'm trying to avoid. I don't mind spending quite a while modifying my gear, but I want this to minimise any nuisance out on the field.

If you can afford them I recommend you get yourself a set of Planet Eclipse knee pads and elbow pads. The 2011 versions.

I used Dye ones and they were great, never moved at all. Some wear them between their legs and the pants, I personally didnt like the way that felt, but that might also help stop them moving. With knee pads, the more you spend, generally the better they are.

Valken knee/shin pads are AWESOME! They don't move at all.

Mine were a bit tight when I first got them, but after breaking them in they're great.

For straight knee pads, Planet Eclipse are great.

The Field owner where i play has a set of multicam pants that have the knee guards already sewn in. Not sure of the make of pants but they are not tru spec multicam as that is what i have.

It might be a bit old, but for those that are interested, alot of BMX specific knee guards work well for paintball.

most good brands are light aeroprene with a hard cap and are slim to fit under jeans/tight pants so they fit well.

like fuse/fox/federal:

most of the paintball specific ones i've seen are too bulky or don't allow much movement.
