I have an older style stainless steel AA Apocalypse adjustable reg..

I noticed at the last tourney - even though I had 1000 psi in the cylinder - she was shooting REALLY low - couldnt get it up over 220 fps.. ( part of the reason my shots were ineffective to the back of the field )

Then -without warning- she died on me, couldnt get it working - went to recharge it, and I had jacked it up high and the macro went thermonuclear along with the stainless steel coupling.. and that was that.. Managed to get it working enough to finish the day..

I was getting a similar problem this sunday just gone at training - where the pressure would creep to over set pressure into my forward reg, and it would start " Fart " venting..

I had a look at the AA manual and it targets a few parts as possible culpits..
1.) Spring pack
2.) Deformed Valve seat or pin.
3.) Defective Regulator seat
4.) Stuck Regulator Piston
5.) Dirt inside Reg.

Now, these are all pretty close parts - I dont want to open it up without the right parts available..

Does anyone here in oz have re-build kits ? Or any past experience with these reg's ?

I know I can get them from the U.S. but I would rather buy locally.. All help is really appreciated.. I would like to get this all sorted before the next WOTS day so I know I wont be dropping 3000 psi in a single game..
( guage creep and over pressure venting leak from front reg ).

Well, I hate replying to my own threads straight off - but I had a go at that APOC Reg tonight.. pulled it all down and stripped it..

Definitely needs a new Regulator Pin Valve - probably a new regulator seat, and a cone spring.. maybe the spring pack could do with replacement eventually - but I am guessing its not high priority atm..

The pin valve is all crumpled like a potato chip.. hence why it was obviously creeping or sticking then opening to full crank when it worked loose..

I also went through the reg and put " Super-lube " on the small items, wiping down with a soft lint free paper towel - you should have seen all the crap that was in there !! amasing stuff, I used about 12 cotton buds to clean the internal threads and crevices of deposits.. its all shiny now..

Will be quite interesting to see how this maintenance affects the markers performance..

regs whether it be on your gun or bottle need regular attention especially if you play in dusty conditions

but how would the dust get inside the regulator if you put a cap on your fill nipple ?

I had the same problem and after some stuffing around i found it was the rubber seal (small rubber washer in with the valve pin) had gone hard so the air wasnt getting past it fast enuff under 1000 psi.

Cheers

Dirty air fills. Before Les and Jamie were doing our air fills it used to happen all the time

Did you have an Air America Reg ?

I joined their club - but the shipping was foobar, $96- for shipping about $20 worth of gear ? Wowsers Batman !

Hence why I was looking at getting it locally..

I contacted the local ( aussie ) dealers in sydney and they are out of stock..

Does anyone else have any leads to getting a new pin ? They did suggest milling another - but for such a small part, alot of places will want me to do lots to make it worth while, dont think the demand is that great..

The fact its stainless too - that isnt helping..

Yeah, must have really bounced in that cylinder... it looks like a crumpled chip.. I will take a digi pic of it tonight.. its almost spiralled ! :)
( Like macaroni ! )

I will get a lathe and make some more - but the tolerance's are pretty exact.. Ii dont wanna stuff up at 4500psi..

*Bump*

Anyone ? Got to get it working before sunday.. I could straighten it out in the bench vice - but with 4500 psi behind it... I would prefer not to be farking around with it - dont want to weaken it or have it break in the reg's piston housing..

hi guys
when you get a new seal make sure you dont get a kit for an Automag reg they may look the same but the seal is a different material for the higher pressure . the automag seal is softer and will compress more with the 4500psi pressure and make the hole small and this will then grip onto the pin and strangle the air flow and even cause the pin to bend, had this problem before with Knackers air system got in touch with Air America and they told me this happens quite alot so only buy genuine parts for the high pressure regs , I got some from Air America for about $10 get them sent USPS by global express will only cost $5 US to post

Whats the difference between an automag reg and a spyder reg ? I thought that an air america reg was a universal thing ? my reg mentions
" Supermarkers " and alot of carry on.. but I wasnt aware there were different internals for different gun setups ?
( Or am I on the wrong track ? )

I'm amazed someone at A/A actually got back to you - they're pretty hard to catch from my experiences - or did you phone them ?
