I have a well cared for Ion with QEV & TechT L7 bolt using decent barrels (deathstix & freak).
What can I expect if I upgrade from the stock regulator for a Dye Hyper3 regulator?
I assume consistency over the Chronograph. Am I right? Anything else?
Thanks for any help. I'd love to hear from anyone who as upgraded their stock Ion reg to any quality regulator, especially Dye Hyper3.

Will the Hyper3 fit? I know the Hyper3 wont fit onto my Ego due to the different fitting sizes.
I had a CP reg on my Ion and found that other than consistency over the chrony, it didnt make much diff.

Hyper3 reg comes in two different threads. Standard & Dye/Proto.
Was the consistency improvement noticable during play or just over chronograph?
Thanks

Hey Matt i put a CP reg on my ego 07 and it did not change it that much, though the egos have a good reg already if you want you can borrow it and give it a go on the ion see if it changes heaps. Also when checking consistency over the crono remember allot of things determine the fps. Paint quality is a major factor as well as barrel matching. so if you can use a good paint and barrel match the paint as close as you can. Ive found meteor always seems to crono good.

Thanks Marco, I'd like to borrow decent reg. I assume Ego stock reg is better then stock Ion reg. Therefore hoping for more substantial improvement than you experienced. This is only assumption, I'd like test the theory.
Btw I always use deathstix or freak and keep my markers lubed etc The paint I use is usually not the cheapest available :)
Also, other posters, don't bother suggesting I get another gat unless you are subsidising my purchase! I have 8 week old twins!!!

Damn - am impressed you are still playing paintball!!!
Fyi - A top end reg will / should give you better consistency (less variance in fps). Easier adjustment, comfort and "wank" factor are all secondary in my opinion. The consistency however is always dependent on how well you maintain the reg.

Both...the CP seems to allow me to keep a more consistent stream. It is especially noticeable when you start shooting past 20BPS.....below that, I didnt really notice a diff, keeping in mind I also did have a CP OOPS as well.
Would be more than happy to lend you my CP for a month if u want to pay postage. Flick me a pm
Not sure about the 3 but if the 4 is to go on (don't they look quite similar?) it definitely fits. Different threads between 3 and 4?
I've got one on my old faithful. Much more consistent shot per shot. Much less dropoff when it runs low. But this was a while back. I've not touched it for a while. Using my Tippys more.

dVient, thanks a lot for offer and feedback. I'll get back to you if I want to loan the reg.
Croc, I suspect that you are right. Reg is listed as Hyper3/4 in the ad.

Just a quick note 4 u. Way back when, a mates DM6s reg (I assume it was hyper2) packed it in. Only spare reg we had to keep the marker running was the stock one off my back-up Ion. The Ion reg actually gave the DM a slightly more consistent velocity using the same paint/barrel set-up that he had used all morning. Weird, but true.

They are exactly the same reg except for the threads. The DM8/9/10/NT/SLG use the Hyper 3 with smaller threads and every other marker uses the hyper 3 with bigger threads or standard threads. See pics below.....
