Bill do you think it would be a good idea for you to start a new group for Annual Supporting members the same as on the nation?

The Annual Supporting Membership gives you more features and a special tag on all your posts. The tag will be shown below your username on all of your posts while you are an Annual Supporting Member.

Every year that you are an Annual Supporting Member the number on the tag will increase.

Annual Supporting Membership has the following benefits and upgrades over a normal account:

•Ability to search 24/7
•Avatar size increased
•increased limit of file attachment space (bmp, doc, gif, jpg, pdf, png, txt)
•Increase Private Messages limit
•Increase signature size
•Removed posting time limits.
•Private forum for Annual Supporting Members
•One-time Unban

Of course these are just some examples and could raise money for more bandwidth?

least this way money will be contantly rolling in and not just relying on the donation side of things.

Let me know what you think.

I think this is a very good suggestion Russ. Perhaps a minimum contribution as well to make the extra bandwidth fee feasible.

Is it possible Bill?

bukt we are paintballers......we shouldnt have to pay for fukin anything........bill should be paying us to grace his page with our presence........now mods are the ones that should pay.....they get all the cool stuff and powers.......

This may be true.. But still not gonna happen

Maybe russ could organise some "Sponsors" for the paintball players?

I don't know squat so this could already be placed, But you could also get sponsors to pay an annual fee, And for the "Financial members" get cheaper paintball gear.

Also, I would join if i was able to add more photo's to a post, Have no limited picture size.

First up, thanks for the detailed suggestions Russ, much apprecieated.

It has crossed my mind on occasions to do something like this (usually when I get the yearly hosting invoice  ), but the question that I get stuck on is how to increase the value for supporting members without removing stuff from the rest.
I don't want to take from some, just so others can percieve a benefit.

You have some suggested benefits that certainly doable, and would I think, be usefull to many. Some such as Increased attachment space, Increased PM box, and private forum are easy to do with the built in subscription functionality, some others would require various degrees of custom coding.

Currently the forums are pretty much coasting along in maintaince mode.
The reason for this is that there is a major revision to the forums software coming out soon (Just pre paid for it last weekend actually).
While the new software will bring a whole swag of improvements and a lot of new features, particularly in the area of user social interaction, it also rewrites most of the backend code.
As you may guess, with those changes about to hit soon, I'm not keen on coding a bunch of changes and then having to redo them again in a couple of months.

So... after this rather long winded reply, the short answer is great suggestion, and we can look a lot more closely at this after we upgrade to vB4. (The new vB4 features will also allow the ability to offer additional things, without taking them from what existing users have now)
