Hey there guys :) I've been recently looking into a club motivated hobby/sport and have decided that paintball could be the perfect thing for me, love team based fast games and love to tinker with equipment.
I live not far from the Samford fields in Brissy and thought i might as well drop a line since there seems to be a pretty strong community of Samford players on these forums. I'm 20 years old and looking to come in in the next few weeks to have a bit of a trial run again (have played paintball a few times before).
Was looking at getting an A5 (thanks K Rudd) to kick things off if all goes well. I've been looking into paintball gear setups and regulations for the last week or so and don't really have any stupid questions to ask :) just pretty much time to get stuck into it, have to get my firearms license app started but was gonna wait till after a trial run :P
So hi to those Samford players, love to hear from you guys and see what sort of community you got going on over there :)

Samford has all the gear there for you to hire, so you could come in your jocks with a wallet if you wanted.
My first 'trial game' was at Samford also. I had already brought a Camo Flex 8 mask. So I wore that and my cams that I already owned. Fun times ensued. I believe this up and coming club day is a tac air day (inflatable bunkers forming a 'small town', marker rules apply) on the bottom field. Whether or not the regular bushball day is to be played alongside the tac air is yet to be disclosed.
But come along, bring clothes to play in, hire a marker and a mask. You can always come back next club day. :D

Sounds awesome, i'm fine tuning a wishlist as we speak with a mask on my top priority for money well spent
So far i'm looking at this package deal from paintballshop:

Not sure about the barrel or that particular stock although i would like to use a stock at some point in time :D Any thoughts on that package?

hey i've just started aswell and from what people have told me is to stay away from c02 go hpa
also if your after good info watch techpb's videos on you tube it has been the best help for me deciding gear to buy. also maybe hold out on deciding on a marker until you have a go of other peoples as some you might like others you wont.

Come along for sure mate. I'll be there on Sunday.
Mask is you most important piece of equipment. Many people get a second better pair after skimping the first time:) Consider going straight to the good stuff. I've not seen many people try on each others masks before. But if you were going to borrow it would have to be in morning before games to minimise the sweat factor
Don't commit to a marker until you've tried several. Talk to people, ask to test shoot. I've not yet heard anyone be rude about saying no, most people say yes anyway. You can try my few markers out.
Ask people why they like a specific feature of their set up. It might matter to you, it might not :)
Good luck with everything. See you on Sunday.

Thanks for the advice guys :D
I guess i will be there on sunday to have a talk to people about their setups and that sort of thing
You guys here are super supportive of newcomers to the sport and that makes it so much easier to make these sort of decisions, everyone is also so eager to let people try their markers, its fantastic :)
I will feel a bit awkward at first but you guys seem like a decent bunch of blokes and look forward to seeing you all on sunday! :D

I had seen Gord's around in some pics and stuff like that, looks pretty good also :D
Just sort of looking around atm, decided on the Dye i4's as a mask (i've paid much more for full face's so the price isn't a huge deal).
Do you guys honor each others memberships across brissy?
Also i was thinking of dropping into the strategic sports pro shop in near the GABBA to check the protective gear out first hand instead of online lol. Do those guys stock a good range? Worth the trip?

Good stuff on the I4's. It's what I rock, and I love them to bits.
That place on Nile street doesn't have a great deal at all hey. It's mainly focused on MilSim. Last time I was there, they had some barrel socks, some pants, tac vests, boots, weapon peripherals (lasers, lights etc)... their range isn't that great at all. In all honesty, just get your goggles and come out to a field and have a look at everyone elses gear. Talk to people about it, get some feedback, visit pbreview.com, then order off the net. That's what I've been doing and it hasn't failed me.
What other protective gear are you looking at getting straight up? Goggles are enough for now imo.

i went to strategic sports about a month ago (walked in walked out) they claimed they had no stock coz everyone bought it before xmas and the exchange rate is crap so they arent buying gear what a joke i say. dont even bother.
i would say wait on the mask until after you go on sunday use a hire mask for that day but get there early and try on people masks before they get sweatty. and ask people why they like mask etc on pb review there are ppl who really dont like the i4, my choice was between empire E-Vent or vforce profiler. (do not get VENT goggles the foam on them is really dodgy my friend bought a pair and had to replace the foam even before the first use because it was falling off. luckily the shop is replacing it with empire foam.)
also you probably might be lucky to order and get a mask by the weekend cause of great old unpredictable aussie post, can arrive in 2 days can arrive in 6
hope i didnt blabber to much

Yeah i wasn't planning on buying anything until after sunday anyway :) I have a bit of experience with goggles (both ski and full face bike helmets) so already have a good idea of what i'm after in that reguards. I think the i4's are mostly what i'm after, low profile, nice and snug and light weight :D
Other protective gear i'd be looking at relatively soon would be a good set of pants, possibly the type tac air players use as i like they're build and am used to them also :P (unfortunately i sold my old BMX gear which had a pair of those pants). Other than that would be camo shirt and a vest with pod holders or just pod holder belt/waiststrap, possibly the paintball assassin ones they have on special atm.
But like i said i'm not planning on buying anything until after sunday :P but i like to be prepared

It's always the sender, buy from someone with a spine and actually sends stuff when they say they will.

Saw the i4's on special for 150 down from 175 so they're looking pretty attractive atm. Already have an offer to try out some gear thats for sale on sunday so that's very handy. I don;t mind ordering interstate, only way to fly :D But yeah always the lazy sender imo

You wont go wrong with the i4's unless you have a big head. I have 5 pairs of pb masks and I alternate between the i4's and my Grills.
Like everyone is saying, try before you buy and have a chat with the guys running with electro markers. A5's are nice to dress up, but in the end, practicality wins over.
I used to be into hardcore bushballing and had a pimped out A5. I now run with my electros in the bush and have sold my A5 (all within 18 months)

Hey guys was looking into the different "disciplines" of paintball so to speak (bushball, xball and what-have-you) and was wondering which is the most commonly played at tourney level in the area. Wouldn't mind doing the sup air or tac air as a main thing and bushball on the side...
Any thoughts or further info on that? Look forward to hearing :D
Sean
p.s I consider myself to have a bit of agility and reaction time, i played representative sport for a few years if that helps :)

man if you want to play paintball at the top level in tournament then sup air is the only way to go, either in the AXL series or S7s.
