Just wanted some info please. Is the padding on the jerseys and pants (Dye, Empire, Planet Eclipse, etc.) sufficient or should elbow/knee pads be used in conjunction with them?? I have only ever played social/bush ball and am trying to get all my gear together to start playing Speed/Tournament. Thanks in advance.

whether you are playing speedball or bush, knee and elbow pads should always be worn

Depending on the type of gear you will be getting, dont bother with knee pads.
Most pants comes with sufficient padding for the knees (if you're playing sup air, different story if you're in the bush).
I would invest your money in elbow pads first, then chest like a PE overlord or similar. The overlord save my skin more than I care to remember, lol. I dont bother using knee pads for sup air.

I'm right for bushball as I use these skateboard looking knee pads which I got from a disposal store, they do a great job protecting my knees. Plus I don't intend on doing much diving or sliding in the bush. Mainly I'm more concerned atm with the sup air equipment. Thanks for the replies guys!

Just one more thing. What are your guys thoughts on slider shorts?? I've found using the cricket style "cup" uncomfortable. Do the shorts give sufficient protection??

IMHO Most tourney pants give enough protection of the Jewels.. Slider shorts are good for hip slides (baseball slides)

never used them.....I use the Empire LTD ZN's for sup air as well as the Spec Ops Fusion's for bush and both are well padded in all the "important" regions

Neither a cricket cup or slider shorts give sufficient protection for tournament paintball.
You basically have to wear a camouflage jockstrap style cup on the outside of your pants or you're screwed.
Srsly.

I play sup air...i would've thought knee pads were the most important. Crouching, shooting on one knee, crawling etc.

lol, i dont think they play the same as you by the sounds of things, i dunno either way, $60 for pads is still cheaper than physio

dont know how much Sup air you play but nearly every sup air player I know uses knee pads....they would be one of the first things I would buy

Not to attack Souse, but most of my teammates have elbow pads and none have knee pads.

Kneepads are probably the first pad I would buy for actual protection against injury. For protection against a break you would buy elbows/arms first. The thing about kneepads too is that the ones I have (Empire Ground Pounder 08) act like a brace on your knee, and reduce the stress from running, crouching and launching. I rly like my knees. :)

I'm just sayin that my pants give my knees sufficient padding, hence the reason I dont use them....like mattyboy, none of my team mates wear a knee pad. I've seen knee braces on the field, but nothing the would give padding. Hardly see any one in WA using knee pads.
Maybe they're just a little softer over East ...(joking)

mate its each to his own.....
playing sup air and especially in tourneys a player is throwing themselves around a fair bit even back players these days. I would recommend any player to get both knee, elbow pads even though jerseys and pants are well padded. Also slider shorts wouldnt go astray.
Just an example why......I've seen stray pegs left in the ground that shred pants padded or not. If you dont have knee pads also imagine the damage that could be done to the knee joint

Souse is right.
If you don't wear knee protection you either play on a heavenly surface, play crap, or are stupid and lazy. No paintball pants have enough padding to protect knees from the abuse they will endure from aggressive play. No playing surface in Aus is good enough to warrant skipping kneepads.

Wearing both the LTD and Contact Empire pants, BOTH do not have enough protection in the vital parts, went down to the local sports store and purchased a pair of Grey Nicholls cricket jocks. These have a pocket on the outside where you can put a box, super comfortable, no more pinching and stay in place, as they only come in white, dyed them with black dye......very easy and all up cost is about $15 including dye....
Both Flip & Action have some great prices on elbow/knees pads, slide shorts are good for the hips, still not enough in the man pad department BUT the Empire pants have excellent built in hip sliders....

I think maybe the eastern staters spend a lot more time on their knees, so we shouldn't pick on them for needing pads.

Knee pads are a must, the one time i played and did not bother, i slid in hit something and now i sport a lovely hole / compression in my knee cap. never ever am i making that mistake again. Elbow pads are a must if you plan and even if you dont plan to superman into the snake. Also if your worried about getting shot in the Nuts while playing paintball, especially sup air, THEN YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG. i think after over 10 years of playing i can count the times i have been shot in the old Pork Sword or Dangle berries on one hand. even then it was not that painfull. go get shot in the ear with out ear protection then get back to me......

Thanks guys, that settles it. Definitely gonna invest in the extra padding. I guess benefit being, I'll be more likely to "throw" myself around the field more! :D
Just also watched the padding show on techpb and heard the story about mike doing a superman slide and gashing his forearm.. Made me cringe.
On a side note.. WooHoo!! I finally got my photograph advice from Firearms NSW.. Now to send the PTA in and wait the 28 days processing.. Good times! :)
