View Full Version : Air Compressors and Cylinders
Just wondering what kind of setup would be good for team training days?
Would a small air compressor work with a diving tank and what kind of cost could be expected?
I would need, an air compressor, regulator, filling station, and diving air tank right?
Cheers :help:

hmmm
Well a good dive compressor for fills
and attachments to
A tank system to fill too - this tank is just as important as the compressor.
and attachments to
A cylinder fill station
At the club we use a dive compressor ( not a hookah ) to a large commercial cylinder. We fill off the big cylinder.
As Trent found on ebay - a hookah is a low pressure unit. $900
You can buy a booster system. It requires AC power of course, is slow and cost is yet to be determined.
I was told we can boost our fills to 4500 psi if need be , but with a 200cf tank - it will take 20 min to fill into another cyclinder at 4500.
Cylinders we can rent/buy $40 full - its the compressor that is the key.

Are you setting up a field or something ?
I have found at $3 a fill for scuba - your training day shouldnt really be spent worrying about air - Everyone should have their own cylinder.. ( I believe if you are running hpa ) so that theres never that problem.. or atleast have a couple of large cylinders that the hpa guys can run off.. In my team we have 2 and sometimes a third.. we run off those all day at 3k psi.
Cylinders are pricey - sure, but your usage far outweighs the nominal cost and disadvantage of trying to buy a $10k system, and lugging it around all over the country side..

I agree, compressor's are a pain in the arse and expensive to buy and repair if they break down, just ask Jamie. Get eveyone to chip in and buy some scuba tanks and make it someone's responsibility to get them filled. Nothing suck's more than "I thought you were getting them filled!"

I was quite amased at how quickly they get filled, even from a near empty.. it only takes only a minute or 2... I thought it would be like filling an LPG Cylinder.. " Drop it off mate, come back tomorrow " needless to say, " I'm Impressed "

thats what Ive been looking to do for our training days, but getting 15 people at least(field wont let us run with any less) to buy tanks is never going to happen I dont think.

Do you have one yet? Dead_angel ?
A bottle or two and a fill station ?
You will be suprised how many will - if they have to.
Other than that - run C02, bottle are cheap and buy enough bottles for one day.

yeah ill be putting co2 through all my new markers when I get them, high end electros love Co2, and why would I buy a fill station and bottle when no one else will. ASk around and see how many people would get one. You wont even get 7.

Cos borrowing one might not be an option soon.
Being dependant on one source of air for your entertainment is nuts
Spend $3k on a marker system and to not spent $500 on an air supply seem crazy.

Well if they wont cough up, tell em to take a walk.. or tell em to get some
" team tanks "
To be completely honest - if half the people spent half as much time and money worrying about " non aesthetic " things for their marker - things like " Gee, how am I gonna run this pretty pony " paintball fields would be a much easier places..
Its amasing how many people use HPA and dont have a cylinder - but will quite happily mooch ya air and not even blink as they hook up to your tank.. without even a " Thanks " - If people said " Gee I appreciate you bringing your cylinder " or something.. then its not at all minded... but when theres a financial cost associated with keeping them ( Hydro testing, filling.. etc ) you get a bit peeved when its taken for granted..
It also p_sses me off something cruel when you take your folding camp style chairs ( etc ) to a field, you put your gear on it - someone takes your stuff off, and pinches your chairs... that really gets my goat... Its happened atleast 3 times... and when you say " scuse' mate - thats my chair " you get a bewildered look and a scorn.. Hell I had to lug the gear all over the countryside - I should be entitled to use my gear.. If you dont like it, bring your own friggen gear !..
Hell, touching someone's tools without permission is a finger breakable offence where I come from, or maybe I am being a bit on the uptight side..
Anyone care to comment ?
Anyone had similar experiences ?
- Euk.
Yes, its a major pissoff when people take you for granted or more correctly all your "extra" gear!
Now I dont let anyone help themselves to my tools, yes i would consider finger breakage to be quite fair if they did! :respekt:
Chairs and tables, yep, had those "pinched" too!
No you arent paranoid, it pisses me off too!
So, all you tool borrowing, table and chair stealing, air gobbling monsters....look out!
Then again, I am the vice president of our club so I have to expect it!

Compressors mmmmm very freakin expensive you should see the repair bill for ours lol....not very pretty...Also consider when purchasing a comp that it may need a rebuild and getting one done by a reputable place is pricey not to mention parts(if you can get them)cause alot of compressors for sale are broken and you cant get bits in aus...make sure all the fittings and hoses are in good condition cause when they blow they can kill....cylinder testing is also another thing to do and while storage or bank cylinders only need to be tested every 5 or 10yrs depending on how they are used can be a hassle cause not every dive shop will do them....
And after all this is added up and you think you may be able to afford it try getting it around....
Oh yeah small compressors really suck there is nothing worse than standing around in the sun waiting for a small comp to fill cylinders..trust me I hate waiting for our big suckers to do it....
anyway good luck with it but consider using scuba tanks they are much easier to use and stuff....get your own kit and stuff everybody else
Thanks for all the feed back ...
I cant say Ive experienced the problems you guys have, though Im sure I will at some stage. Im a new member of the PPC in Victoria and I dont even have my licence yet, however:
1. Bought and paid for all my equipment, some I havent even used yet or even touched, ie my marker
2. Bought and paid for a specific tool kit just for paintball, all the tools are new
3. Volunteered time and effort cleaning up our club field on my weekends/days off
4. Trying to organise my own air so I dont need to scum off Neil and Leigh when I actually start playing
So coming back to the air .... scuba tanks shouldn't be a problem to fill from huh, as long as I have the right fillliing station right?
I can get them refilled at dive shops ... or could I use the compressor that our club president brings to field days to refill it? I dont know what kind of compressor it is, all I know is its damn expensive and fills this giant huge tank at the field ...
Cheers again ...

If you do buy a scuba tank Gupt, then look up Action Paintball and get the correct fill station from these guys that just simply screws onto the scuba tanks. You can either phone these helpful guys up on 029679 0011 or buy from their website at www.actionpaintball.com.au If your field won't or can't fill your scuba tank then any dive shop should be able to help you out.
Welcome to paintball mate.
Cheers, thanks for the info. Rainman !! :D
Looking them up now ...
See ya at SAPPA if you're there :armed:
