G'day,
I've been floating around these forums a while learning more about ze paintball.

I've been owning the competition when walking on with a mate the last 2 weeks, and had a blast doing it.
But last sunday, I came across a young wanker who was getting hit a lot by myself and my mate, who just wasnt walking back.
He'd duck back in, clean himself off and play on, and I couldnt get the refs attention without getting shot myself, so it really killed the fun for me.
Not to mention the time I jumped into a bunker with 5 girls and a guy in it and they all surrendered but then after lifting his gun the guy decided to shoot me instead. BAH!

I figured I would see about joining in on the spec ops days and seeing if the standard of play lifts up (as I'm assuming it would)
I've already searched the forum for newbie information, but need to know when the next spec ops day is, and how much I might be expected to spend, assuming I only own a set of camos, and would need to hire everything else?

I'd plan on getting my own stuff as I go on, but at $300 for a standard tippman without hopper or tank, It's a lot to spend straight away and then get tired of it, if ya know what I mean...

Mate, come out to Mango Hill Skirmish club days, which are on the second Sunday of each month. You can rent upgrade markers, that shoot fast and straight. The paint price is as good if not better then other places. So come out the next day and introduce yourself:thumbsup:

Oooh, thanks for the reccomendations of other fields. :D
NPF 12 hr night games sound freakin awesome, btw...
Though it kinda sucks to have to drive out all that way, I'm sure I'll find a way, haha.
Other questions would be related to kit.

For instance depreciation on a marker - is it important, or are markers robust enough that i can pretty much buy it and use it forever?

Smart Parts Ion and BT4 Combat (insert other cheap electro here) - These are cheap markers, and seem to have the 'stats' (though could be marketing BS) to be good markers, but will they die in the dust and rain of woodsball? is the extra money and apparent lack of 'cool stuff' in the Tippman range compensated by enough ruggedness to make them worthwhile? or is it just wank? (i dont care at all about milsim, as long as it isnt too sci-fi, like some)

Then I guess I'm worried about the ongoing costs of all the stuff thrown in together. in public games I seem to go through about 400 balls, and spend over $100/day out. with paying club membership, (perhaps increased ball usage?) and other such things, will it rise or stay about the same (i dont mind so much as long as it doesnt go up, haha) assuming I go every 2-3 weeks?

providing you treat your marker right and service it regularly it will last you a hell of a long time.

i don't know alot about the bt-4, however the ion and especially the tippmann A5 are damn good markers...the A5 is brilliant, most of the regular bush ball players have these and for good reason, they will take everything you throw at them, rain, hail, mud, dust, etc and continue to work. the ion is a good marker, but not quite as robust as the A5...anyone wanna add soemthing here?

as for the other stuff you are looking at...it depends on the quality you want... top quality stuff (opsgear.com or specialopspaintball.com) is kinda expensive but good gear. there are cheaper options for equipment (ebay) but the majority of quality is lower... this being said i own a fair bit of gear purchased on ebay, and i haven't got anything fail yet.

there is a large number of local suppliers for all this equipment as well

strategic sports - Shop 1/16 Nile St Woolloongabba - 3891 5366
Open 8.30am- 4.30pm Mon to Fri
action paintball - sydney - www.paintballshop.com.au
*fill in others guys*

where in brisbane do you live? there is a number of npf members that live in the brisbane area that would surely be happy to carpool...

Note to self

Bring extra $100 with me next club day

By joining a club, you will spend about the same each club day, as you would during a "normal" punter day. The difference being you will get a box (2,000 rounds) of paint, and field fee for that $100, depending on quality of paint. You will also be up against much better players than playing against punters. I can only speak about the club at Samford, there we play on the first sunday of the month, but any month where there are 5 sundays, we play twice that month. All of the clubs offer pretty much the same thing, with some good people, fun competition, and reasonable prices.

With regards to your questions about markers, all that you mentioned are good choices.

Hey mate.

Welcome to the dark side.

Markers; Tippmann make markers that bounce. Encarnate has pointed you in the right direction there. They will take ANYTHING you throw at them.
And quite honestly, the less milsim, the better. THAT is you wank factor right there. It is added weight that gives you absolutely no increase in performance. Ok, a stock on the thing is a damn good idea, as long as you run a remote line. A stock will help with balance and basic posture, but all the shrouds, scopes, sights, rails etc?? If you wanna lug extra weight around so it looks as though you're carrying a real gun, great! Have fun.
You'll get jack of it real quick. :thumbsdow

I too cannot speak to the pros and/or cons of the BT-4, but if there is anyone here who can, please post up. I am as interested as the next guy as to their benefits and drawbacks.

Oh, one other thing too mate; you will need to join a club and procure a letter of membership if you are going to secure a weapons licence so you can buy a marker. And there is NOTHING saying that you can only be a member of one club in Brisbane/S.E. Queensland. Try all the fields, and if you see fit, join more than one club. As crazy Randy has said, the monetary benefits really are there.

Yeah I dont mind about a stock as such, as I use the gass bottle in my shoulder anyway, and that stops me trying to move my head all the way down to marker with goggles on.

Question about thermal goggles... wtf does the thermal word mean in this application? polarised lenses?

encarnate
16-04-2008, 10:59 PM
thermal lenses have a second interior lense that is smaller than the main lense that is designed to stop fogging...they are worth there wait in gold, i have them in my JT's but also have a fan to maximise the comfort..

I know 153rd Recon / Mango Hill Skirmish Honours the Samford Memberships...
Not sure about the rest though, you'd have to ask Vonsplatt about that.

I do believe that this question lies firmly in the rhetorical section...

Yeah Blobby there's bushball cheats, but as most of the time we don't have referees to weed out the wankers, we find that our style of making them pay is far more effective.:armed::dance: :yes:

So I tried mango hill today...

It was allright, a bit easier on the legs and stuff... but I seem to enjoy the samford cover a bit better, because theres more hiding behind bunkers and less hiding behind scrub.
And the pirhana thing i rented kept on de-cocking?

Got to see the droid in action which was pretty sweet, i liked it.

You should of upgraded to the cyborg, they shot alot straighter and faster. try and come out on the next club day. It's totally different then playing with punters

vonsplatt
26-04-2008, 06:38 PM
Two ways of dealing with the decocking-
either it is a gun fault give it back we have heaps of spare guns-
or 2 if you hold the gun too close to your face mask the cocking lever hits it on its return travel and does not recock properly.
Scrub can be pretty challenging-especially if Pup is in there in a ghillie suit.

Yeh, you should've taken your gun to the Reffs to get changed m8... You would've been told that when they gave the demo on the markers & They can't help you if you don't tell them about it.
Also who had the Droid? Only markers there apart from the Piranha's are 04 Cyborgs, the BT-4 & the Reff's personal markers which are Invert Mini's.

But yeh, playing through the scrub is alot harder as there is less cover & takes a totally different approach then running from bunker to bunker...

Oh, well, it wasnt really a constant issue, I should have verified that, I've had a good run so far on the carbines @ Samford, never had them de-cock, though my mates I play with seem to get it occaisionally, so I put it down to dumb luck every time. Then today I found out it never happened to my friend at all that day.
It happened rare enough that it would have been more annoying to get my paint swapped into a new gun anyway.
Vonspatt, are you one of the refs that was there on friday?

Also I ah, yeah, got the droid and borg jumbled up. crazy macdev.
I saw that invert mini, and it was dang sexy.
The ref had some scrim net over the barrel which made it look wicked.

Vonsplatt, is the owner of the field. So any problems you had, or any ideas that would have made you day better, just send him a pm.

We try to make sure that the patrons are well looked after m8 and that issues like that don't arise... But there's always one or 2 markers that always play up which I apologise for.

The Refs Friday were Myself , Satan (Andrew) & Nick... Vonsplatt (Dennis) is the owner & the person that gave you the safety lecture up at the shed.
If you have any feedback or suggestions on improving sessions / fields etc, please PM Vonsplatt or myself & we'll do our best to implement them in future.

Nah, it was a top field.
very easy on the body, though that meant I didnt have the same advantage over the fat guys, hahaha.
Next on my list is the national paint fields near ipswich.
I gotta get cracking on this gun license stuff...
