Hey all.
New to the paintball scene. Went out a few weeks ago and im hooked. Licencings underway (gonna take a while) and ive been checking out forums and online shops. Met a Sappa member on a worksite by chance last week and hes been rather helpful with where to look and who to speak to.
Im looking for an entry level type marker to begin with and will upgrade later.
I was looking at the Ions and other rather cheap ($$$s, not quality) markers, but im a bit of a believer in "You get what you pay for"....so i have been looking at the "Proto 'matrix rail'" as my first marker to buy.
Just wondering if anybody here has had one and wants to share good and bad experiences with it....or fors and againsts.
Cheers
Paul

look at Eteks as well, I now mine rocks straight out off the box.
Depends on what you want to get out of it. If you've got plenty of spare $'s - get a shite marker like an Ion first, then get another crappy one next year, and then another the year after.
If not - Get the best marker you can afford right of the bat, then, if you don't have bundles of 100's lying around, you can keep it for the next few years.
Get a 2nd hand quality marker - they're going for a HELL of a lot less than people paid for them, so it's a bargain for you - look for something that is a cosmetic change only, then you're saving $'s for the same technology, just last years model looks.

This is your best bet. The best 2nd hand marker you can afford. What's your price range?

First off, whats your budget??, that will help most here with some advice for you.
Next I would suggest getting some field time in and talking to others about a choice of marker. Do you want it to perform in bushball or speedball??
Other costs to decide on are hopper, air and barrel.
Personally I would suggest new, as they generally run well out of the box, seconds might need work and repairs to keep performing.

Yes.....that would be you. Just couldnt figure out who you were on here. Problem solved.
Probably more interested in the speedball aspect of it at the moment. The longer the licence takes to process, the longer ive got to sly cash outta my accounts from under the watchful eye of the Cash Nazi (Girlfriend), and the bigger my budget will be. Starting to buy everything that doesnt require a licence at the moment, so once the licence arrives and ive got my PTA then all i should need is the marker. Oh....and looooots of paintballs.

I concur...
There are many great second hand guns for sale at the moment, and by buying MACDEV you can breathe easy knowing help/repairs are only a phone call away, and you will be supporting an Aussie product!

I'd have to disagree.
If you're just getting in to paintball and have limited knowledge of markers and the best way to maintain them, then I would suggest you buy new, and buy something upper middle end that is relatively easy to work with and not going to require 'tweaking' every second game.
2nd hand markers come with a caveat, no warranty, no 'real' idea of how the marker has been treated. All this is fine if you know what you're looking for, but a bit of a worry if you're just starting out.
There is absolutely no need to buy off the top shelf for your first marker.
Just something to think about.

ok im a macdev flag waver and sponcored buy them so take what i say any way you like
ok now the disclaimer is over
fistly i think buying 2nd hand is the best option for a new player ,the guns are cheaper and better ,warrenty is only ever as good
as the back up it recives at a import or manifucturing level
a great gun to start with would be a 05 or 06 cyborg there going cheap and wont leve you wanting when playing at tournement level
the 05 ,06,07 borg are almost identical internaly so if you buy a 04 you would have talmost the speed ,efficency and accuricy of the later modle markers
spares are only a call away and i think that you could replace ever single part on the gun if needed
there are plenty of 04 05 borgs going 2nd hand get one with a tadao board and your set (PM SOUSE i no he has a few)
there simple markers that are easy to matain and there is little to go wrong with them
and the macdev militia is one of the most helpfull bunch of people in painball ,if you need help just ask them hell if im at a tourny and you wanna learn how to tech your gun just ask illl put aside a hour after and have you sorted
and finally there products are Australian Owned and MADE ,right here in sydney not some overseas sweet shop
give james a PM here and ask him some questions very helpfull guy
