Gday all,

Im having trouble locating the new link to the section 4 safe requirements on the internet. I know it used to be on the police website, but all the links are dead, they must have moved the file. Anyone know where it has been located? I just need to take a printout to Bunnings to check out the safes. Anyone have model numbers of the safes that are ok from Bunnings? Im from WA if there different regualtions state to state.

Thanks for any assistence you can give me

There are different regulations state to state.
Here is the link to the QLD police weopons licencing site.

May not be of help but you might be able to contact them and ask who to call.

this is for queensland but i would imagine that W.A is pretty close

How do I need to store my weapons?

Firearms must be kept unloaded other than when being used to shoot, except where the firearm is being used under a security licence.

When not in a person's physical possession, a firearm/weapon must be stored unloaded in a locked container with the bolt removed or the action broken.

For category D, H or R weapons, the container must be a rigid structure made of solid steel and be bolted to the frame or floor of a permanent building.
For any other weapons, the container must be a rigid structure made of solid steel or timber and if it weighs less than 150kg, be securely fixed to the frame or floor of a permanent building.

The container also must have a sturdy lock and be kept locked when the weapon is not in use.

Ok, so is there any requirements for wall thickness? What about the type of lock mechanism used? Also, I read somewhere that the number of hinges is also a requiement (I think it needs two If I remember correctly)

Does anyone know these details? I need to know this for my safe-shopping

Hey

Just to let you know all the safes in bunnings fullfill the requirement. you can get a one for $29 and it will fit the requirements. its pretty small though. so you might want to get a slightly bigger one. Which suburb are you in?? Are you in the Morley?? PM me.

Most important thing is you need to drill 4 holes - 2 in the back and two into the floor. If your walls are concrete, dont worry about the thickness. AS long as it is secured and unmovable you are sorted. Fulfill this and you are fine. These guys arent going to measure the wall etc.

and your anchours need to be a min of 8 by 60 dyna bolts if you are using wall pulgs they cant be ne less than 8 by 90 i think and if you are using coach screws they need to be 10 by 120 (which ive got) and a min of two on
each surface i have a laptop safe bolted in the corner of my room just above the skirting i put four on each surface and jumped on it as hard as i could and it didnt move a bit thats what they want to see if you have ne

Yeh I bought the $30 safe from bunnings a year ago.
2x 10mm by 100mm dynabolts in floor. 2x 75mm coach screws into the wall. Added an extra bit of wooden board for support behind the safe.

Invited the boys in blue around, got em to have a look at the safe, talked about about local paintball. And that was it.
More often than not, the cops will come round thinking the safe is for a proper firearm, when they find out it's just for pball, they will have a quiet chuckle, give it a good shake,(trying to rip it off the floor), then leave you be.
