View Full Version : PSP rate of fire CHANGE
I said that I would announce what we are doing here this week. I thought that I would have a final answer. I don't.
There will be a reduction in legal fire rates beginning in 2008.
If you do not have a board that is able to adjust below 15bps, you will need to get access to another board, or have your board reprogrammed to allow you to operate your gun at a lower rate.
PSP has made a decision as to what we think is best. We are withholding a final decision while waiting for additional discussion with industry and outside industry groups who weigh heavily on this decision.
The moment that I have a final number, I will post it here.
I would recommend that people start to do what is necessary for their guns to operate at around 13.33 bps. I would also recommend that teams start to practice at this rate.
That's what I have to say for now. I may have a definitive or specific answer as early as the first week of January. As soon as a specific number is decided, there will be a press release as well as a post on PbNation reflecting this decision.
Just found this on "the paintball forum we don't talk about".
Interesting to hear. Was loosely talked about on a episode of Xtreme Paintball - beyond the paint

I have never really shot a marker at 15bps, so to me a drop to 13.33bps is pretty negligible. Am I wrong? And what difference is this likely to make in the league, if any?

hardly seems worth the trouble??
who really cares..... like we will ever see the change from semi only

I think it will make a significant difference to the paint costs of teams competing in this tournament series.
Teams seemed to stay away from this series (according to posts on PBN) purely because of the costs associated with the amount of paint shot at an event.
Also, now with the new rules about only permiting sponsors paint to be used at an event, I believe they could have made this decision to try and retain market share with other tournament series..

Not only that, guys won't be shooting as fast. So its more likely that people are going to make moves/big moves...
It'll make the game more exciting to watch....therefor, they'll make more money.
Therefor...the sport will grow.
Therefor.......
Well you know the rest.

An old rule really - been in place for NiPPLe (www.nppl.tv) for a while. Most teams will not be overly worried about this.

Most teams shoot the sponsor paint anyway.

Yeah. It's more of an issue for Div 1 and below ... where sponsorship is less commonplace.

Basically for teams who have to pay for their own shit etc.
I think that maybe with the slower ROF, there might be opportunties for teams to push more aggressive moves etc. Hopefully less long drawn out boring ass points that are associated with some teams. Remember 13.3 is not the final number - they won't have a definite ROF til Jan

i dont understand it at all... i can pull 17bps in semi right handed and 14 left handed.... why would i opt to play a tourney that SLOWS my rate of fire?

If you think you can ACTUALLY shoot that fast in semi then you're dreaming. No offence.

I see your point here and think your on the right track, in the end we could all be shooting markers that fire nothing but laser beams and people ( i belive ) want to see more of the great moves than people getting shot out just cos they cant run through a marker that shoots 30+ BPS.
These people are looking at the big picture of the sport. Its a good idea.

dude theres guys who can shoot way faster... with practice, anyone can easily shoot that fast. If you choose not to believe it then thats fine by me - glad you're not on my team though!
edit: as for increasing level of play - why not start a pump tourney for those who want that style of play? =)

that would decrease level of play. People would become complacent and lazy.
That being said i'd love to have a pump tourny :)

 My Angel tells me I'm shooting 19bps so there..
some crews really have no idea about actual rates of fire.. constant 15bps is stoopid fast.. try keepin that up for 4mins straight.. :hammer: tell 'em how it is Marty..

Fair enough. I think you'll find that ALL electronic markers tend to add shots. Look at people who are flicking the side of their trigger (or strumming it 3 finger style) ... why do you think they are doing that? \My marker (which is not bouncing and passes any chrono check you tend to put at it) shows me shooting around 14bps consistant and peaking at 17/18bps - but I KNOW that I am not that fast on the trigger.
Sorry if you thought I was having a go with you - wasn't the case at all :)
