I was chatting to some paintballers in Asia and they said they have fake hoppers, Halo's. Do they work just as well as real ones. What other fake paintball gear is out there?

While I was in Malaysia I bought some lock lid pods. They look just like Dye lock lids but without the Dye logo. They hold an extra 10 paintballs. It seems ok. I've not had any issues with them. It worked out to be about AU$4 per pod. I only bought 2. I wish I grabbed more... But space was a premium...

Anyone can just walk into a factory in China and say "I want that product, but it has to be blue and have my logo on it" and the Chinese are more then happy to do it. Hell you can even buy rejects/seconds from them to sell, they don't care.
One companies trash is another companies treasure.

guys I have cleaned this up.....keep it on track, any off topic posts will incur infringments mods or not
Just about everything has a cheap knock off out there somewhere, One thing is that the materials are often of a substandard grade. pods of non moving parts I can't see a problem with.....last thing I want to happen is use something that saved me $10 have is stuff up and cost my team a chance at the top prize. Thats for sure

why would you want to run around with fake gear? youd be known as the bloke that was too tight to pay for the real deal, its like knock off clothing, everyone knows its knock off.
seriously mate the legit paintball industry is a small industry, support it!!
Easy way of putting it is like this......... find a nice log of dog T**d paint it gold on the outside..........no matter how pritty it is on the out side it still going to be sh*t on the inside.
If someone told me they were going to make dog cr*p taste like chicken, I tell you what I dont think I would be eating ther version of a chicken sanga thats for sure.

I regards to alleged "copies". You might find that a lot of these copies are actually the real deal with the logo removed. I can't really comment on paintball stuff per se, however, a lot of other stuff is just over runs of licensed products. What happens is that a company (say Dye or Nike) contracts a factory to make their products. The factory, already heavily screwed on margin by the brand, loses the contract. So the factory just continues making the product.
Effectively you have got it the wrong way around adi. :) A lot of the branded stuff comes from cheap knock off factories anyway. The gold paint you refer to is the brand logo. :) Hell 3 months ago I bought 2 computer hard drives. Same brand, same model and from the same shop, at the same time. The thing was though that one was made in china and the other in Pakistan (from memory). Branding gives the illusion that, somewhere there are Dye (or other brand) employees working in a single factory cranking out their equipment. In a globalised economy a lot of brands just contract to the lowest bidder.
Anyways the only way to tell really is to get the products side by side and objectively compare them.

the thing you have to watch out for when buying knock off stuff, any kind of stuff paintball or not is that different countries have different standards, so something made for australia may be made with different ingredients or different materials than something made for say china. it's like the soaps and shit like that you find in the $2 shops, it's the same brand as the stuff you buy at coles or safeway but it's made with different ingrediants because it's meant for a differnt country. same goes for sports equipment and the like, same product but different materials, which also means different safety standards and quality standards. i'd say buy knock offs with major caution cause you just can't tell if it's of the same quality until it goes and breaks on you!
