Hi guys,
I'm new to the sport and have fired a couple of different markers and have decided on a Cyborg. I want one second hand so I was looking at this in the for sale section click me (http://www.billspaintball.com/vb3/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=64#)
Of course I don't get know what the following from the add are:
-Tadao board
-rail
-macroline
-ASA
Is there anything you think that i should be looking for in a second hand marker? Other than an air bottle and hopper I don't really know what else I'd require to start using this marker.
Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm ready to apply for a licence and have that in hand.

The Tadao board is an aftermarket electronic board that actually controls all the functions of the gun
The rail is just where the air system mounts
Macroline is a plastic tube that the air travels through to get from the air system to the gun
ASA is the mount that the reg screws into.
If you get a marker with air and hopper your well on your way, you'll just need the apparel then; gogs, harness, pods, barrel condom (a must have) and your ready to play some ball.
And if you ask questions about the marker from the seller, like: what's the lpr set at, what's a good setting to run it at, when was it last serviced, what are the settings the gun is set at at the moment, then you'll get a good idea from his responses of how much the previous owner has taken care of his marker and that he has taken the time to learn how to look after it properly. Small marks on it just show that he plays hard but big dings in a marker shows a lack of respect for his equipment.
Welcome to the wonderful world of paintball , first though , get your licence sorted , then get a PTA , these things can take a lot of time depending on Weapons Licencing .Good coice of marker , made in Aus with good factory support , the marker as shown looks ready to rock , just add a bottle and hopper .
Tadao board is just an upgrade of the electronics , gives you more shit to play with , the rail mounts below the grip to attach the asa , gives you a small amount of adjustment , macro line supplies the air .
Head down to your local field , most guys with a bit of knowledge are more than willing to answer your questions.

Thanks for that guys. Been down to the local (not so local) field a few times. Just had these left over questions which you've answered brilliantly.
In regards to the licence I'm told I have to have selected a marker and provide the serial number when I apply... so that's what I'm doing. Is this not the case? It must suck for sellers to have to wait month/s for a buyer to get a licence...

Welcome to the fold:clap:
Ok I'll drop in my cents worth... I'm Not trying to tell you how to suck eggs or imply any lack of sence on you part :respekt:
Try to look at whats for sale near you. I'm not saying that there are evil doer's and shonks out there.:respekt: It's just to consider things like saving frieght and stuff or just needing some pointers with you what you bought...
Listen and talk to as many P/ballers as you can... If you can try to have a go of any that you are interested in. Put some paint thru them so you can see and feel the marker out. This is the one real advantage over purchasing a new one cause in most cases you can't do that. And ask questions about it. The person who is trying to sell it shouldn't have any probs with these and if they do then ask yourself what are they not wanting to tell you?
But most of all... do some research on the marker your interested in. There are sooo many sites on the web that you'll be as up to speed with it as you want to be. One thing you need to take into account is that you may just be getting the marker only so don't forget to consider the air system, barral systems and hopper in your budget. But you would have figured this out when you asked the questions
However the most important factor is... You... So know what you want, what you can afford and what you like and you'll do fine.
I have two second hand markers and they are both solid. :armed:
Good luck :thumbsup::armed:

when it comes to your licence in all depends on which state you are in
for qld you do not need to specify a marker when you apply unless it is already in your possession (illegal without a license)
as far as the marker look at the one mickyjay has for sale
i remember when he bought it he pained over the set up and he seems he looked after it and for 100 bucks more its all the same colour and comes with more stuff
but as i can see you have already shown interest
get in contact with the guys at MACDEV about an air system
and get a hopper from where ever (the halo series of hoppers are reliable and pretty dam fast)

adswrx, where is your local field? Cause i know if your playing in Syd that Blitzkreig and X-fighters both use Borgs and train at mt white where as you wont find any one using one at action, ( i dont think)
And you might be lucky, maybe some of the guys will be upgrading to the driod or even the 08 borg, so you could pick up a 06 which is sweet as is or if you are really lucky you might pick up a nice 07 like i did.

Borg for sure
WHAT? A 2nd Borg over a brand new mini?
I know borgs are extremely reliable, a great series of markers and produce by a very customer friendly aussie company... but considering that the mini are on par with quality markers such as Egos and DMs.... wouldn't one take the Mini over a borg?
Putting looks aside, the Mini seems like a very sturdy, no nonsense marker.
I just can't agree with paying X amount for a 2nd 05 marker when it could get me a brand new one thats arguably(1) better. :(
(1) I use the term arguably very loosely

2nd hand markers are in my experience, very reliable. there's nothing massive that can really go wrong with them, and if there are any problems at all, most of the time it can be fixed with a new o-ring.
Buying brand new is massively overrated in my opinion. you lose $$'s the moment you fire it and there's chances you could pick up a lemon. not to mention you lose the ability to test fire the actual marker and make a decision based on performance. Buying your first gat second hand, is in my opinion the best method of entering the sport. They hold their value a lot better, you have extra $$'s around to buy the rest of your gear, and you have the option to try before you buy. They're broken in and set up to fire, just add paint.
Not to mention the player is after a borg, an Australian made product, with tech help available over the phone or a parcel away. Even if he did buy a borg that was poorly maintained, he has the means to fix it at his doorstep.
go the borg.

Yeah, that is quite fair. It seems like such a daunting task to have to acquire a PTA each time for a new marker. However you're spot on about the chances of picking up a lemon, the mini's being a new addition and customer service.
But seeing as both the 2nd hand borg AND the mini costs the same, it might be worth the effort to test fire the mini and consider it.
Tisk just an opinion ^^ Fire both and see how you feel.
hehe, I figured... get the best you can afford and than learn how to use it :P

I still think that between all the eclipse dealers in Australia you'll be in good hands should anything go wrong.
And besides (at the risk of grave personal attack from certain people on this forum) theres a good reason that the majority of pro teams in the USA, Europe, Asia and indeed here in AUS use Ego's, DM's, WDP etc. How many pro teams use The borg or the droid??? the statistics are stacked heavily against borgs/droids. Also look at the awards that the ego has won... kinda speak for itself...
Don't get me wrong, from the people who use the Borgs that I've spoken with I hear very good things (Gary Tutt of the Southern Storm speak very highly of his Borg) but from everyone else The ol' Borg gets a pretty hard rap...
As for my mini, the only issues thus far is that some retard (namely me) didn't check that all the screws were in tight enough and now I'm missing one of my detents and the detent cover...
Well, that post should alienate me from a few users but before you flame the shit outta me remember, it's only my opinion, take it or leave it!!!:D

who gives a shit about egos when the guy asked specifically about a Mini or a borg? Who cares about WDP or DM's ?
You're one of the only people in Australia who owns a mini, you like it, it's your first marker, you've had it for what, a month ? congratulations I'm happy for you but as you stated, there's a massive following for Macdev products in Australia and there's countless people that can give this guy advice, including the primary manufacturer on his doorstep.
You haven't owned your marker long enough to know what problems you might be confronted with. 05 Borgs have been around since...... 05.
I don't care what a pro player shoots, I shoot whats comfortable for me, affordable and shoots fast and straight.

1. My mini is my second marker - I currently own an XSV SL66 as well. I don't deny that there is a massive following for Macdev products. I like Macdev products (I'm running a Macdev air system) however the 05 is what like nearly 3 years old now... technological advances and improvments have been made far and wide in the paintball world (and everywhere else for that matter) so I was merely suggesting that maybe something a little more updated would be worth LOOKING at.....
2. it's just my opinion, it doesn't count for shit... I can only go by the conversations I've had with people who run different markers.
Sorry if I've offended (I have nothing against Macdev, they do good work and have the added bonus of being Aussie!!!) but from the experiences I've had and from the experiences of those I've spoken too that's where I draw MY conclusions from. You don't like my opinion don't listen to me...
Either way whatever marker you buy makes no difference to me at all, so long as your having fun and enjoying the game!!!
:D

We have all parts in stock for the Mini.....
It is an easy decision... a 3 year old gun or a brand new one (that is smaller and lighter to boot) for the same money, no contest unless you are severly retarded......
I just hope that if you go for the someone elses preloved gat that you are very sure of its history, regardless of who makes it.
As a guide, a DM5 is now days worth about $250 to $300 tops.
Sorry, but if you pay anymore than that you are being silly that is all a top end 3 year old gun is worth. If someone wants to pay more than that then all I can say is buyer beware. Some others brands like fo example, 3 year old Angels are worth even less.... that is if you can even find a buyer.
So to me if one of Dyes finest are worth that, then what is an 05 Borg worth?
$550? Really? Wow! (Somehow I do not think so)

The pure energy comes in 3k PSI, which is a smaller volume tank, doesn't specify a reg.
the carbon fibre doesn't specify which reg, or whether it comes with one at all, or a brand name for the bottle...
The macdev is the Macdev specified bottle, but it doesn't specify whether it comes with the legionnaire reg, I think they're only selling bottles and not regs in all these... ?

The airtank is an important part of a marker system.. I bought a brand new HPA tank with a high pressure preset reg when I originally got my A5. It was perfect because I later bought an Ion too :D Bought that tank/reg for $390.
When I recently bought my etek I got the marker in a package with a Vlocity loader and a new HPA tank with a low pressure preset reg. Cheaper to get them as part of a new marker package ;) Marker package was $1099..
Personally I prefer to buy new tanks as I feel safer knowing the history of my air tanks.. HPA can kill afterall O_o

metal = weight and can explode if ruptured. The bottles that are wrapped in fibre can blow, but the fibre will prevent metal shrapnel flying everywhere.

So air is like Pai Mei in Kill Bill Vol.2 (rates *****) if you don't respect it, it'll kill you, or pluck out your eye if it's Darryl Hannah?
ok, i think this has sailed into off topic land. case closed!
