Sorry guys but the storms that went thru this week have flattened the field at samford. We have no netting left anywhere and most of the poles have snapped at ground level. There is considerable damage to every aspect of our operation at the field and the sup air field will take considerable time for me to get to to replace/repair the netting and poles.

So at this stage I doubt there will be any further training days for the balance of the year and the 4Play shedualed for the 28th will have to be bumped or cancelled.

I'll know more after I get stuck into the clean up but as it is such a minor aspect of our operation it will be lower down on the list for funds and attention. Quite frankly it is a disaster area

You cannot even drive into the joint at this stage with the fallen trees. I've got about 800m of netting to replace and god knows how many trees to cut up and remove before I get to supair area, and that 9metre netting is going to be a nightmare to rehang.

Ouch...

Well good luck with it all. How did the rest of the fields go ?? Any damage to the fort, main seating area, the bunk house etc ??

this is too much of an asset to the tournament community in Qld to let go..

I may not be able to add much to the manpower stakes either, but my feeble attempts at manual labour can be source of humour and makes those around me feel glad that they're not me. :help:

Seriously though, you know I'm in for whatever... I have nowhere else to go!

Thankyou very much for the offers of help, I may well take you up on it.

As for the 4Play I just cannot see it going ahead on the 28th. This week and weekend I have to clear the road and carpark. Replace and hang the safe area netting, as well as the car park netting. Then the netting along the road, and then clear the fields of dead fall (ankle breakers) tape off unsafe areas (where trees have wipped out structures)

then next week and weekend make the fields safe for the punters to use fully again. On top of that there will be weeks of cleaning up and netting/ poles.

I cannot apologies enough but it really is beyond my control. Down the bottom the netting is gone between the wind and the hail there isn't much left and there is hardly a leaf on a tree.

I have to focus on the retail side of the buisness 100% before I even look at the supair field, and looking at the amount of netting needed as well as posts and labour it may be well into next year before we can get to it:cry:

Once again I have to get stuck into it and see where we stand. Please don't pop out this week to help or look it will be more of a hinderance than a help, I have a crew of my highly trained sand skilled monkeys on the job since first light today and I want to get on with it.

I'll get back to you asap.

Nah, we actually like to have some obstacles and ground cover. May be better to leave it as is. And methinks it time to just bite the bullet and turn the supair field into an urban combat centre, least then the nets wont have to be put back up

Jokes. But seriously, we really should be able to have both. Someone just needs to win the lotto and donate the scratch to make it all happen.

Oohh :lol::lol:... NOT!!! :eek:.

Thanks for your luv Tross...:hammer: Nice try though :p But odd and strangly enough I can see and understand your base need for such thoughts... :)

Anyway I think the nets on the north side would still have to go up, even for an urban field, cause of the neighbours property boundry.

It's funny how the pics don't make it look that bad... But as I was out there and seen it on sunday it just makes this para-phrase more apt...

"Every picture tell 1000 words and with these pictures most of them lie!!"

As pup said there are broken trees & branches all over the place just waiting to come down. The crew at Samford have done a huge job:respekt: to clean up after the storm. But there is still a lot of work to be done  to get everything back to what it was.

No matter where you walked on the field it was as if somebody had dumped tonnes of mulch on the ground. the bridges field is almost as open as the punters speed-ball field. Anywhere there was a showing of under growth has been pulped flat by the hail. As a result when you stand by the fort on demo ally side you can see right thru the trees across the gully and see the road leading to the main staging area.

The sag in the remaining nets on the sup-air field to me either says the poles have shifted in the ground or are damaged below ground level.

I guess it comes down to what we can't see that gives reason to err on the side of caution for using the area.

The high net did pretty well to survive. All the wires are snapped and will have to be re-run. The telephone poles have been pushed over away from the grass a few metres from square on some cases and it looks like ground water has washed soil into the holes locking the poles into their new positions. There are some tree tops hung up in other trees and a few widow makers as well that have to come down.

It looks not so bad because we have policed up all the downed netting, wire, poles, trees and dead fall but it was pretty depressing just after. Once the high net is fixed and the poles secured games can resume. I do think that the netting on the dam wall may be along time off going back up and it will be a goggles on area from now on.

I have no plans to get it running this year, I have to finish the rest of the repairs before I can get to the Supair field. With luck 4Play should be late Feb 2008.
