obviously it is myself that you are targeting Rob. i never intended to get on the wrong side of anyone. and i apologize if i have. Yes we had a run on the field at lunch and i would be happy to pay the field fee if it was a problem. We are looking to put a team together and start playing, come down to check out what goes on and this is the reaction we get. I introduced myself to a few of you but obviously not everyone. How have we brought the game into disrepute? What do you think we are trying to do? Participate!! And again my apologies to anyone i may have offended. Dman let me know and i will come and pay you for the run.
i didnt realize we did anything wrong. i did not partake in the tournament as it may have seemed by my incorrect wording in my thanks for allowing me to check things out in the spam area. sorry for taking interest and for turning up.

To all Joombies, Newbies, Wannbe's.
If you really ARE serious about becoming a tournament paintballer. Listen.
Come to the fields.
Get to know the guys and gals.
Train with them.
Play against them. You don't need a team to do this.
Listen and learn from them.
Pay your own way...we all have to.
And stop playing with corporates/punters.
The best way to earn their respect is to compete either with them or against them, on the field, that's where it all happens. If you talk the talk you better walk the walk.
Now, I didn't see either of you guys on saturday and never in all the tournies I've been to have I heard of someone rocking up and playing on the tournament field while the teams where having lunch !! If you want to play...come play like everyone else...simple...and if you don't have a team, let people know and maybe you'll find yourself in one on the day...oh and the more help the better when a tournies on, so if your not playing and your going to come out "for a look"..lending a hand goes along way in my book.

Whoa !
I just emailed rob_kaos about what our "intentions" were..
I have the feeling it is pointed at rob and myself.
I had absolutely no idea that bringing rob out for a look at a sup-air field and walking the field, practicing some snap shooting and laying paint for a distance to see how it fly's could cause such a ruckus !
We were on the field about 10-15 mins while you guys were eating lunch, we didnt leave any mess.. we introduced ourselves around.. obviously not trying to get in the way..
We walked the field, talked strategy.. tried long range shooting.. and shot 3 quick rounds 1 on 1.. and got off the field when everyone was coming back.
We never _WANTED_ to play with the whole crowd, we never intended to go against anyone or play in a team on the day.. this was and only ever intended to be a bit of a meet and greet for rob and a chance for us to get out, see the field - and play a little round against each other.. You should check my previous post about where I said " I am only going out for a little while, got other things happening on saturday "..
We got around chatting with _Heaps_ of people.. we spent a while chatting with the guys from rodney rides and Sydney swat.. chatted with whitey from geroatrics and the guys from X-cyte.. We didnt sit by ourselves.. we couldnt go out onto the field, rob doesnt have a mask yet.. I had mine - but you dont leave your team mates alone.
If anyone was so pissed at us, why didnt someone come tell us ? We had a couple guys from gero's sitting behind the barrier telling us strategy, that was fantastic.. really appreciated..
Rob_kaos, we have chatted heaps online.. I cant believe you guys would get so offended we didnt come speak to you, I didnt know who you were in R/L... Alot of people we saw were concentrating on the games and couldnt give a shit who we were and werent really caring because of their next game.. so we stood and watched, politely - not getting in peoples faces..
As for not paying a field fee, hey no probs ! - D-man, I will hook you up next time I see you... Paying a field fee is really not something I am worried about paying, Its not like I have ever not payed my own way.. I Didnt realise I had " AGAIN " pissed everyone off.. I only saw D-man in the morning when he was flat out busy, and again before lunch... when he was again flat out busy, didnt think it the best time to be in his face about a " Maybe practice "
I thought it best that we steer clear and not get in the way.
If someone was offended that we didnt introduce ourselves - you know, its a 2 way door - you could have come introduce yourself too..
I formally apologise again for severely looking and acting like a noobie.
- Euk.

Hi...to everyone who played on the weekend and turned up to have a look, if you took some snap shots it would be good to see them on bills. I didnt take any as I was busy reffing...
watching this issue develop for some time and I dont see it as something that should be directed at these two guys or anyone specifically.
I think there are valid points on both sides so if everyone is sensible I see it working out ok.
What I do see as the major issue is that we need to make sure paintball in WA is not starting to become elitist I know for a fact that a lot of players did not or could not play in the tourney for financial reasons. (not sure what it is like on the east coast)
Not everyone can afford to lay down hundreds of dollars to get smacked by pro level teams.
I think most of the guys from out of town are linked to fields and use that to offset the costs, I imagine the country teams spent a lot of money to travel up/down and of course Swat and the others from east spent heaps.
I think we need to look at making tourneys/comps more affordable so we can have more teams/players, we could do that by having a cheaper byo league that runs a lot more regular eg the regs days could be run in an informal tourney mode with teams.
So the newbies can get to play tourney ball instead of just going out for a hack.
Less regularly we run the big games for the serious guys.
This would foster new talent and strengthen WA pball so that when Swat or the likes come over there will be more than 1 team taking it to them.;)
I know it may be hard to get going but I know of no other sport that runs the way pball is run in Australia, due to the lack of numbers we cant rely on sponsorship to attract players to tourneys with big prizes.
This post is not meant to start flames just the way a lot of ppl see it from what I have been told.
If you lessen the level of torneys that will only hurt the better players, why dont all the newer players get in contact with each other and a field opperator and organise a big training/ informal torney day, If they dont want to play with everyone else that is. I know from experience that playing with the big boys when you are only starting out can be the best thing for you if you dont become discouraged, there is nothing better than beating the guys that have been giving you a hiding and that you look up to.

The peanut gallery is starting up again.
Tournaments don't get much cheaper than what we had on the weekend. ($100 per player, bring your own paint). This IS the cheap byo league you are asking for.
There was an initiative this time to expand the tournament to a 2 day format which would have increased team costs, and this might have scared off some teams from competing. But the end result was a well run tournament for about as cheap as it gets.
If you want informal competition where you can develop your teams skills - then turn up to the regs days that are held at Serpi and other fields every month or so. If you really want a mini tournament, this can be done on the spot, as demonstrated by the Serpi regs day a little while ago where that did exactly that.
Why don't you turn up, make the suggestion, and put in the work to make it happen - 10 minutes to organise some teams, 15 minutes to work out a schedule, 5 seconds to scrawl congratulations to the winnner on a piece of paper and hand it over in an awards ceremony.
I can understand why Rob_Kaos is doing his nut - it's put up or shut up time. Your either serious about playing tournament paintball in W.A., or your not.

Just in that line, you alienated anyone who was considering the next step..
Come to the fields.

Train with them.
Play against them. You don't need a team to do this.

We got flamed because of a poor judgement call.
We didnt go out for a black and blue beating, just a look and learn.
The best way to earn their respect is to compete either with them or against them, on the field, that's where it all happens. If you talk the talk you better walk the walk.
I have never talked the "Talk" because I dont know the "Talk" - but be assured, I should try doing it, so hows this.. " give it time.. you were a joombie once.. I will be bringing it to you one day.. "
Now, I didn't see either of you guys on saturday <snip>.
We were there, hence the flaming you are giving us - you obviously didnt see us.. plenty of others saw us, and none of them criticised either me or rob for being there, heaps came up and introduced themselves and asked what team we were from.. when they found out we were new to competition people gave us business cards, web sites and email addresses..
I have been out to sup-air training days in the past, I shouldnt imagine you would have remembered me from them either.. but others there on the day did... didn't know my name, as did I remember theirs - but they recognised my face.. and said HI back.
And FYI - I was standing near the air trailer next to the field entrance with rob watching the games, for about 5 hours if that jogs a memory..

OK guys...............yes i was hard on you all, but i believe it has had the desired result...............turn up, play with regs not corps, introduce your mouths around, at least have the courtesy to let field owners/operators know what your up to on their fields, and back your mouths up with your triggers!
FYI i have helped more newbies into this sport over 10 years than you could probably count, so dont have a go at me with helping newbies....also at the moment there are actually about 8 or so total newbies that played in the recent torny, all these dudes have the right attitude and their mouths are in control............
.........there are no hard feelings toward anyone, just lift your social paintball attitude a bit and we will all get along and enjoy future ball together.
Remember what you post on bills is open to public scrutiny and you had better know your subject and place before you go spouting 'stuff' online.
Paintballers (especially older ones) in this country are highly protective over our sport considering our paintball history in this country and want to protect everything about it........................
chill out, play ball, watch your mouths, we will all get along!!!!
if you need help ask in the right ways and you will find it!!

basically what i'm saying is, i'm a smart ass with a bad attitude...... and if these guys helped me into the sport then they'll help just about anyone that shows an interest..... just so long as you go about it the right way and are willing to listen and learn. they are great guys and will help you out where ever they can.

Euk and Rob I hope you are not put off by this, we need more ppl playing paintball in Australia. I though it was great that you guys wanted to learn more about Sup Air but yes next time speak to the person running the tourney if you want to play(practice) there.
Just how expensive are your tourneys in WA ?
We run our tourneys in SA with a very low cost structure - Hell we even ref for free. The field owner takes a nominal fee of $300 or so to use the field, a few trophies and a small profit to help maintain equip are all the costs. The entry fee is around $30 per person. And yes lunch is provided.
