Hey folks. I'm a newbie to the paintball scene, looking to get my shooters this summer and start buying up all this awesome gear I've been sussing out...the only problem then will be actually getting some skills!

If anyone is bored, I have a few questions about getting into the sport:

1. What is the best place to do my firearms safety course in Melbourne? Do the courses differ substantially in cost from venue to venue? I would imagine this would be a pretty regulated thing but I don't want to get screwed - better to be safe.

2. Are there any amateur leagues in operation throughout the year? I have a few mates who are keen and a few more who might be converted. Do paintball leagues exist in a constant manner? I am aware of the tournaments and stuff - but I mean just a regular once-a-month ladder sort of thing. Like bowling.

3. Do you have any more advice for someone just getting started?

My basic back story simple. I have been wanting to try paintball for a few years and finally got a day in at Carrum Downs a few months ago. It was like magic. I fell in love with each and every game. The possibilities for teamwork and tactics are unparamounted in modern sport and the 'fantasy war' aspect of the game is a massive adrenaline rush. I also reckon it would be a great way to get my anaerobic fitness up again since I stopped doing Judo.

Anyway - enough giddy rambling from me. Kudos to all of you that play and enjoy this king's sport!

Hey mate - you've come to the right spot. (See also the vic paintball players forum at www.paintmagazine.com for more local news)

We run members sessions at Melbourne Indoor Paintball every Wed night from 6.30pm onwards and every Sunday from about 3.30pm pm onwards. We have two large indoor fields and are very centrally located at Port Melbourne (next to the Go Karts) - on the fringe of the CBD if your not familiar. Citylink exit is around the corner also.

We have a wide membership base (from very experienced to starters) and all the guys are friendly and keen to lend a hand and give their thoughts. If you want to come down and have a look feel free to drop in at one of these sessions - if you give me some notice you can have a crack of one of the top spec guns.

Full memberships at Melbourne Indoor Paintball are $275 per annum plus $22 field fee each visit or $525 per annum plus $10 field fee per visit. Paint is also very well priced by the box. We generally have a special going at any point in time that throws in a heavily discounted membership if you buy certain equipment or guns from us.

Teams and leagues will be formed over the coming few months so its a good time to start practising with exiting members to see where you want to play. We will have both skill graded events and pot luck random draw teams events so that all standards are catered for and everyone plays with each other - a great way for all to socialise at the club.

We are running free safety courses for members and non members will pay around $30. The courses are the compliant police tests for your firearms P Cat license.

Feel free to drop me a line at james@melbourneindoorpaintball.com.au or 0413 448 869 or call MIP direct during business hours 9646 9977.

Cheers and hope to see you there sometime.
James
