Just a little news that will hopefully prove to be a big leg up for paintball in Vic and Australia for 2007 and beyond.

MIP have just secured the rights to run a paintball demonstration arena within the track at the Australian (Melb) F1 GP in March 2007. For those that have never been - a four day party with 350,000 people strolling past the mega arena. Sure to draw a lot of attention in its own right!! Prize winner play and demo games on display for all days. Plus promo chicks in skimpy outfits :)

At this stage MIP members and invitees are the only confirmed demo players for the event but the GP Corp want to have as a public prize winner promo activity for ticket holders on their formal program. March 15 to 18 2007

Hope to see you all there in March 2007!!! Come and check it out if in Melb town.

PS and before any Vic legal eagles go nuts telling us we can't blah blah - Dennis is fine with our approvals so chill

Wooohhoooo! AXL is 3-4th of March. It should be wicked. Should make it a small 3man comp and say cap it at 10-15 teams. Send invites out to top teams in Aus to put on a good show.

We've been told we get a GP TV story to go around their super screens inside the track and location and program listings (they can't confirm if the commercial networks will pick it up though but i'm sure a 30m long inflatable arena will get someones attention). The MIP banner on the top of the arena for the choppers should be cool too!!

Once the conditions and location are all final then we'll move onto the larger task of trying to make the best of this opportunity to really take modern paintball to the people. Paintball is still only just skirmish games to most but i'm guessing we will have a few more members in April 07.

We need to check the extent to which we can run mini tournaments within our event (and within their event). As a demo event we should be fine to run what we think is most suitable. Hopefully between everyone we can take the best of all suggestions and produce something great. Whilst it is an MIP promotion, it has to be good for all fields and players in general.

Wondering if unstaged 2 man games by pro players would actually be too fast for spectators??? Hopefully the netting visability is good. Has anyone actually been inside one these arena's???? Any feedback on them??? Our guy is getting from China but i've never seen one.

PS thanks for the offer of various teams and hopefully we can do something like that

For sure the tourney played need to display it in a good light. Thats why i would think they would be more suited to the task as I have seen planty of new guys go off at being overshoot when they have have been shot 2 times. Oh and indoor fields can make a bit of rent from tourney players with memberships, no BYO and gear sales. Punter are obviously for profitable but I know fields like MIP and XIP are also trying to get regular players by even puting it on there normal flyers they hand out. I havent seen many other fields on there handouts saying ow if you become a member paintballs are heavily discounted. It means tourney play will grow very quicly here in VIC.

I hope this happens !!! damn great stuff Birdman

BUT

I think we will have to have a scrutineering session on the markers for anyone involved in this at MIPS because there has to be no ramping at all in public.
If we have to provide markers to cullout the problems I am sure it can be arranged

One trigger pull equals one ball out the barrel is the law.
So no ramping and only mechanical bounce will have to be enforced virgorously.

well thats the law all over Australia... so anyone doing that is already breaking the law... I don't think you'll have any problems with that.

Birdman

I think the point Hid makes is a good one. Sometimes the rules get stretched a little in normal play but we will have to be very carefull when in the public eye. My guess is that the average spectator will be pretty surprised by the rate of fire or normal legal semi so its bound to draw attention anyway. If there is anyone shooting above pure semi then it may cause problems and of course anything other than semi is illegal.

Working on some custom MIP GP jerseys that will have the flag etc included. These will be limited edition to players at the event only and will be available to MIP members in the new year.

yeah some events are easier than others and it depends on many regulations. They vary from event to event. The exposure will be great. Celebrity paintball challenge on TV will be pretty cool as well.

A video cut together of the GP crew having a play at MIP a few weeks ago. After that they were completely sold on paintball at the GP. A lot of them had seen it all on ESPN and watched vids in the bar so they got right into the slides and break outs etc (even though most had T98's - a few borgs out there)

Artwork for the new inflatable MIP tent for the GP. We've had some compliance issues along the way but seem to be working through them pretty well.

There will probably not be as many expo games as first anticipated. There will be various shootouts between emergency services, different media groups (newspapers versus newspapers versus tv station) and also SOME paintball sport expo games - maybe a few each day.

PS - We will be contacting interstate field operators that may want to lease the number 1300PAINTBALL outside Vic and we can lease this to you. Please PM for details on our pricing. The phone number can be operated on a state, regional or even suburb basis so that the calls go to wherever the number originates from (As with all smart alpha numbers). A very easy number to promote and remember.

Yep thats our actual arena. They messed up the 1300paintball instead of 1300PAINTBALL but other than that its apparently spot on. Takes 8 guys 30 mins to erect with 6 permanant blowers attached.

Yes we will look at renting interstate (and maybe selling them with custom branding). With the number affixed to the structure it would work well to be rented to those leasing the 1300 phone number interstate.

It would be nice if it was just as easy as deciding to have an event at a fair and then turning up and playing - legally not that easy in Australia unfortunately. But with some planning it could definately be used at a stack of places where it would currently be impossible to run paintball games.

We went with the 15m x 30m x 7.5m because it was a more manageable size. The bigger one was a bit tight in the space we are at in Albert Park.

what are the dimensions of the bigger one?

Birdman
15-02-2007, 07:49 AM
Bigger one was 25m wide x 40m long x 12.5m high.

Its the height of the bigger one that also becomes a problem - high winds and engineering make it more difficult. It can be sone though and would be great for a larger event.

Like everything in Australia, even these inflatable structures are regulated by the BCA (building code OZ) so they need engineering and fire sign off etc etc. There is much to this stuff as any indoor field operator will attest to.

Birdman
15-02-2007, 08:26 AM
Yeah for tippman 98's for the public events (emergency service event and celebs) they will be fine with standard hoppers.

We will run some demo games of club play and these will be with the electro's running at full spec. Hopefully the high rate of fire will draw a stack of attention (positive attention) because most have no idea how fast they can shoot.

How hard is clean up?

Birdman
15-02-2007, 04:24 PM
not sure yet - probably a lot but netting and inflatable pillars help. Just clean between games and prevents crushing more unbroken balls. With such a narrow field the balls get directly entirely end to end so my guess is that they will collect there.

They promote it on the GP Tv and expect that the commercial station (not sure who does it) will do a story as part of the GP event coverage.

Not sure if foxtel / fox sports have any tv rights at this event.

Herald Sun (Melb) wouldn't run it. We found out via the GP Corporation that the paper actually went there to get some pics for the purpose of sensationalising the fact the there was paintball at the GP. They were going with the angle that the GP were encouraging people to shoot at each other and were going to publish it as a major GP scandal - no sh$t. They spoke with the GP committee and they convinced them not to run it but i think its hilarious. Crap papers!!

Birdman
22-03-2007, 07:58 PM
They also would't run the essendon football club pics from last nights session, because we had MIP logos and photo boards in the background. The media are now very protective of their advertising $$. The bombers are putting us on their website instead.
