How many times have you played.
Where is your current interest: sup air or bush.
Do you want your own gear? Whats your budget.
etc

well iv played socially a few time and as every new guy is in here keen to get more involved in the sport of paintball, im looking at playing bush and alittle Sup air cause of the rush.

and yeah gradually i wouldnt mind owning my own gear im buying goggles soon and membership to the TopGun at keperra 2mins from where i live, so i can get the process of the firearms licence going, i have some family friends who work at the police station/s so maybe that'll speed things up abit :) and looking at goggles around $80 and gun depending on time of buying it maybe 500/600 mark.

Hey mate,

Welcome aboard, your on the right track of getting your marker first. I started with the clothing and goggles and worked my up.

For starters, consider a spec op membership at samford skirmish, there a lot of regular players play there and then you also get to experience both sup air and bush ball. Also on the note of speeding things up on your gun license, the license gets processed at weapon registry, so unless you have people there, doubt that would have any effect.

Anyways come down to the next spec op event day, which i think is on the 26th, meet some of the guys, try some markers and ask a million and one questions.

Kio.

Welcome brother!

My first suggestion is NOT TO SKIMP on your goggles. Above all else, spend the dollars on these. You must consider that you will be wearing these for the vast majority of the day if you are gonna play bushball. You will sweat and your body, particularly your head, will give off an imense amount of heat.

If you are then gonna look at going down the Dye/Proto path (I'm not suggesting that you do, your proclivities are your own prerogative - sorry about the alliteration) they do have a good dual foam system and a double lens system that for the most part is very very effective in terms of anit-fog and the foams are quite good at protecting your face from the vast majority of your facial sweat. (gee, there's an attractive term:D ). They aren't the best in terms of field of vision though, and that is very important both in bushball or sup air.

As for your license, as you're already a member at Top Gun (if I understand correctly), you can get the process started. It is good to get this started as early as possible as it does take quite some time - between one and two months, depending on how backed up Weapons Licensing is at any given point in time.

Once you've got your license, if you're looking into a marker for bushball, look into the Tippmann range, but if you wanna cross-pollenate, you may wish to consider getting a marker that is good for both bushball and for entry level sup air play. Some of the sup air players will goad me for suggesting this, but look at a Smart Parts Ion if you want to get the one marker to do both. It is fairly rugged construction as far as electro-pneumatic markers go, and can give you a decent enough rate of fire to get you going in sup air. However, if you're gonna look at two different setups for each discipline, then definately consider a straight pneumatic marker for bush, and an electro-pneumatic marker for sup air.

Lastly mate, gradually start working on your fitness. If you play bushball regularly, you are gonna want to be able to sustain long play (this can be upwards of an hour in a mask and full kit). Tourney games don't run this long obviously, but this form is extremely good for teaching you to hide behind your available bunkers and make good, clean and quick shots.

Again, welcome and if you feel so inclined, come out on the 26th to Skirmish Samford. We'd love to see you there, and we are always willing to welcome another to the fold and help out wherever we can.

thanx for all your help guys im not a member at topgun yet but very shortly and fuilled all the paperwork out for the licencing and start getting my gear while its getting processed and also X-Mas would be a great help hehe i can't really ask for a marker but i'll just ask for dosh to get my underway. fitness wize i used to be a bodybuilder/ personal trainer lost alittle weight since but yeah still in good shape hope that helps me out in the field.. im not to sure where to SHOP for marker/gear iv resurched a few sites on the net and all different pricing, id like to get goggles with a built in fan in them. i wouldnt mind looking at indoor Sup Air games abit cleaner haha but who cares

Hey Kio

Don't know much about Topgun  ... so won't comment.

Can highly recommend Samford though  & just joined Spec Ops myself.

I'm relatively new to Bills myself but you've definitely come to the right place ... everyone here is very helpful & you learn heaps ... use the search facility as almost every question has been answered before or just ask away anyway & others will point you towards old threads.

My only advice is ... buy your marker local, either Qld or another state. DON'T BOTHER IMPORTING A MARKER, even though it may look like you'll save some bucks ... DON'T DO IT (unfortunately have learnt the hard way) :hammer: .

May see you out there ... if I do ... don't forget to DUCK!

Yes you will need to do a fire arms safety course, it will set you back around 80 bucks. Also if you have any questions ring big gav at paintball Australia. He runs samford and can answer question you might have

Kio,

Membership to the Spec Ops club is $55 or 12 months.

This gets you $20 field fee on club days as opposed to $35 (I think), and discounted paint. We pay between $65 and $90 per box, depending on what brand you get.

Plus, any Paintball Australia gear is 10% off for Spec Ops club members.

Pretty good really.;)

Look mate, people please quote me if I am wrong, but the difference between top gun and samford, is that samford it is a player's club, with that I mean it actually has regular club days and touraments and you have the opportunity to play with non-rec ballers at these events,

whilst the membership for topgun is more just for meeting the requirement of getting a marker. Although they do offer 10% in the pro shop and all these other rates, its kinda pointless if all you do all day is play rec ballers

Dude don't become a member of Top Gun just to get your license it's not necessary. If you want gear then look around you can get cheap gear anywhere. I'll send you a PM on how to get your license. Welcome to the sport shame you could have come to the Sup air training last sunday and seen that side of it. Maybe the next one.

Hey Kio,

Even though I'm a member at Samford, I'm gonna say that you should do what is best for you.

You do the research, you weigh up your options, and make the best decision based on your own intentions.

Ultimately, we are all here for the betterment of the sport, no matter your location.

We'll all be glad to see ya, no matter where you join up.

They seem reasonable, as looking to see how much we need to charge for the new club

hey champ,

welcome to the site, i just read this whole thread and i have a few suggestions for you, like for your goggle system, dont worry about a fan in bush bull as it will basically tell your opposition where u r all the time, just get a thermal lens and u should be right, as for the marker ions are a great cheap, highly customizable marker but loud like a dm5, but in sup air no 1 really cares about how loud their marker is so it ur choice,

ne ways welcome again,

laters
