In Approximatly 2 weeks the legal playing age for Paintball in NSW will finally be lowered to 16 years of age.

Briefly,
- Players under 18 years of age will either require their parents to be on site, or provide prior written consent to play.
- Players under 18 will not be able to own a marker.

For full details and to arrange bookings contact your local field. (http://www.billspaintball.com/directory/directory.php)

Australian Paintball Industry Association
(02) 9679 0011 – PO Box 3065 Rouse Hill NSW 2155
Press Release
The Australian Paintball Industry Association has welcomed the announcement by Mr Carl Scully, New South Wales Minister for Police of the lowering of the legal age for paintball players to 16 years.
Players between the ages of 16 and 18 years will now be permitted to play paintball on any registered field in NSW with parents/guardian consent forms or a parent or guardian present during the game.

Mr Michael Whybrew, President of APIA said last yesterday that this is a giant step forward in bringing NSW and Australia into line with some Australian states and the rest of the world where the legal age is 12 years.
“I believe that this move will help enormously in reducing the teenage obesity, where young people play video games.

“This will get them out into the fresh air and enjoy socialising with other like minded friends.” “I have received many calls since the announcement from Association members who have all welcomed the changes.
Mr Whybrew said the announcement was the result of a meeting between the
Industry and members of the Police Ministers Advisors several weeks ago in Sydney.
“The Industry has been lobbying for years to have the age reduced and this is a positive indication that the paintball industry and government are working together,” Mr Whybrew said.

Mr Peter Russell, Vice President of APIA said he has been looking forward to an age reduction for years. “Now, we can get young people off the streets and off their computers and let them do something constructive and healthy in fresh air.”
“This is a positive move by the NSW Government and it has the full endorsement of the Association.

Recently NSW Firearms relaxed regulations governing the cross-border movement of paintball markers to allow free tournament play between Australian states. Prior to the recent amendment interstate players had to apply for a NSW paintball marker permit each time they entered the state for a weekend game.

Paintball is the third fastest growing sport in the world and is attracting hundreds of new players monthly across Australia.
Prospective players are invited to contact their local paintball field for details of the age reduction to 16 years.

Mike, lol

Pete Russell advised me to join which I agreed, he told me 2 weeks ago he was sending (e-mailing) the forms to join....nothing as yet, maybe you could rattle his cage.

One question though, what does joining get me this time, will there be regular news letters, meetings, feedback etc.

Is this the letter you speak of.

We had a mob of schoolkids in yesterday, it seems that having a sign about the upcoming law changes pays off when you have a school bus stop near the front gate.

I had a chick ring me today getting up me about the law not changing at all, seems she rang somewhere down at firearms and was informed that it (the law) may not change at all now seeing "Scully" has been asked to leave........

I basically informed her that we were still waiting for the official letter allowing us to book from 16yrs and up and that we would not be doing anything about it untill we received the official letter.....

lol she flew for me, saying she had already arranged the group and all her work was for nothing...it's the first time I have ever had an organiser get up me about not being able to play.

That was NXFM in Newcastle, basically when I first agreed to do the ad's with them I had mentioned to my ad Manager that the legal age for playing in NSW could be lowered to 16 by November. I wrote a script out for them stating what I wanted people to know about my business and what we offered, etc. They took it upon themselves to change the script and add in the bit about being able to play from 16 years and up. I went with it to see what response we would get and the response has been overwhelming.

All we have been doing since then is explaining that we have not received the official notification yet for the change and have been putting their name on a list to call them back when it becomes official. No we are not taking bookings for anyone between 16-18 years.

It is official!

The previous minister had already signed off on the administrative changes, all we are waiting for is for our new permits to be issued, which we should receive early next week, then we can start running 16+ punters... I will personally notify all A.P.I.A. members of the full details by email tomorrow.

This is still very unfair! it should be 14 atleast! In the US kids can play when they are 10! And the gun laws about paintball markers should be changed they are only dangerous when used by people that dont know what they are doing! For god sakes in country NSW 12 year olds are alllowed to own a rifle if they work on a god damn farm. So why not lets people who are intrested in this sport own a paintball marker! Its like saying you cant own a cricket bat because its a potentiol weapon! Yeah I know about projectiles and stuff but seriousley if you shoot a paintball gun over 500 meters the ball wont get there! Mabye a sutability test and a age cap at 14 would be alright but for u to have to be 18 to pick a marker u like and play with it is just plain unfair.

When we the field operators of NSW had the meeting with the advisors to the Police Minister, the question was asked of the age being lower than 16yrs, it was flatly rejected by the representative for the police minister as "16yrs was the lowest we were going" it was a "take it or leave it" situation.

Be happy it was even discussed

But why I can understand 13 is a bit young but 15 as more mature would be a better step in promoting the game

Considering how the government view semi-auto markers as prohibited weapons, I think lowering the age to 16 is about as good as you will get for a while!

JagerCoRps

JagerCoRps

The shooters party have never supported us, in fact we are worlds apart,

why I can see you saying

Well we point our prohibited weapons at each other and pull the trigger, they don't simple, also there are far greater numbers of voters who shoot real firearms these "shooters party" elected rep's can BULLSH*T too.

Dam I never knew that I reckon they should consider people who own makers are firearm owners why not

JagerCoRps
30-04-2007, 03:45 PM
I think the reason they (shooters party) do not is because the real shooters constitution is for them NOT to fire projectiles at each other, with the exception of TOOLS like Martin Bryant and the like.
