How ya doin there i just played several rounds of paintball today and loved it and im interested in playing regurally. I dont have any equipment or much knowledge other than pointing and shooting the gun.
So i was just wondering if anyone could take the time to help me out by giving me pointers such as what gun to buy, where i get cheap ammo from and suppliers.
Cheers, btw my names Matt :)

What sort of ball are you playing? Bush or supair?

First dude, you gotta start the long winded application process for owning a paintball marker... Call the firearms registry in your state. That could take about 1-2 months... During that time, look around for markers, and work out what you want to play.
Bush (woodsball) is like the guys off the street play - camo overalls, bush fields etc.
Supair (inflatable bunkers on a small flat field) is a tournament style of game, which is very quick.
Advice that was given to me was start buying the smaller stuff first, while you are waiting for your licence.

mate if you are interested in playing regularly first thing you wanna buy is a mask, now that is all down to personal preference, what you think looks cool and what is most comfortable for you and your needs.
approach your local field, see what they can help you with in terms of mask, gun set up, and more importantly see if they can help you out in the process of getting your gun licence.
get the gun licence process rolling as everyone has said, it takes forever, even if you dont wanna get a gun straight off the bat, its good to have and get the whol thing out of the way.
which state you in by the way?

Hey Matt,
Id suggest
1. Head down to a local field and talk to some of the guys there,
2. Determine are you more for bush ball, or sup air,
3. Whats your price range, and research on what u can get for your type of game,
4. Get a mask thats comfortable as you will be wearing it everytime u play, best to have something easy to wear,
5. Start the firearms app.

Go have a look at some guys markers at an event or training, most guys will give you a go of their marker.
Get the best mask you can though

Well i play bush ball and live in SA
Im not too sure what to expect for price ranges so i dont really know my limit.
And since i live in a rural town the gun license process will take awhile lol

Living in Roxby Downs will seriously limit your chances of shooting other peoples markers, let alone finding a team that has their own gear.
I think the best way to get to do that would be to attend a SAPPA round. There's one in early November at Tarlee, and that's about as close to Roxby as any tournament will get for you to check out gear.
And as others have already stated, get yourself a mask first, and DO NOT skimp on this. It's the most important safety item a player will ever invest in, and it should be ultra comfortable with a good amount of foam padding. I can highly recommend JT Proflex's...seeing as it's the only mask I've ever had:o

Talnoy,
Welcome friend to the best sport, bar none!
As the guys above have said, get your own goggles sorted first, before you sort anything else. When making this decision, in my opinion, you will have to try some on. As I am in Queensland, I have no idea other than that intimated above as to your level of isolation, but I seriously believe in try before you buy for goggles mate.
There are a few brands that offer the modularity of being able to add an extractor fan into them as an additional purchase. I cannot give enough praise to this particular piece of innovation.
Bushball vs. Sup Air is gonna determine how much you spend, but you can spend equal amounts these days in either one, what with the advent of so much equipment for running around the bush, vests, marker upgrades etc.
Realise that both have their merits, and each one will give you invaluable skills to integrate into the other.
As for cheap ammo, in this regard, you DO get what you pay for. I am certain that anyone on here who plays regularly will readily tell you that. Once you get into it, start searching for threads on here about different size barrel bores vs. different brands of paintball. That will help save you some extreme frustration.
Look at the threads you are reading, the locations of the members who post up, and send a private message or two to anyone else who comes from S.A. They are your best and most up to date source of info on how to go about the process of applying for a license, but get it started soon. As we have all said, it is long-winded, but very worth it.
Above all, decide which is more FUN!!:bigparty: After all, that is what we are all here for.
Have fun, welcome, and shoot it up mate.:armed:
Another tip is to try and find a mate or two who can come along along so that you don't feel like a loner, paintball is best fun with your good mates

Damn good advice that.
The more, the merrier. You never know. You may convert at least one other to the dark side.
Then you always have at least one on your side that you know.

mate i am in the same boat as you. the paintball bug has bitten and that sucker bites hard.
so far i have started the Licencing process. been to 2 training days. bought myself a mask *i got a Extreme Rage 20/20, only cost me about $90* and i got a set of gloves.
the guys at the training days were ace! many of them OFFERED to give me a go at their marker without me even asking. they even came down onto the field with me to give me some advice on my stance, shooting technique and many other things aswell. all in all i had a great day and the guys there seemed to make sure that everyone enjoyed themselves.
i have found that they all seem to embrace the fact that you are taking an interest into their sport. if you played league and didnt know how to tackle, most players would think "if i run at him, i get through and score" i have found that not to be the case, it is more of a "he is having a few troubles, i'll offer him some advice on how he can do it better"...
the organisers at the field also seemed to have a lot to offer aswell.
anyways, the way i look at it, take in all the advice that you can before your head explodes and most of all, just have fun, after all thats what brought you to the sport in the first place.
i'll stop my rambling now cause i really dont know what i am talking about, but i am having fun learning, i hope you do too.
thanks

Look I know alot of these guy's will have been a Ref at one stage
Get to know your local Ref's and the Person who runs the field.
They will give you a hands on feel to masks and entry Markers.
After your Mask, get your self a straightshot squegee as they are great for Rental markers and get a Ref to show you how to clean a break out.
The more you ask the Locals the more they will look after you.
All of us who play Paintball love the sport, so ask questions and most of the guys who play will be happy to help, as we were all new once.
Good Luck and enjoy the pain.
