In what may be paintball's largest individual endorsement deal ever, Oliver Lang was reportedly offered $100,000 by Dye.
There's an air of excitement in the air at Dye today. After talking with the owner of Dye and the Ironmen, Dave DeHaan (Youngblood), it's pretty clear why. Dye just grabbed paintball's best and most popular player.
"Pretty much what we've done is we concluded a deal with Oliver Lang. It will be a long-term multi-year deal. He will be the face of our company (Dye). We're looking to him for individual endorsement of our brand," said DeHaan.
This deal adds tremendous value to the Dye brand, strengths the Ironmen, and weakens paintball's number 1 team in one swoop.
"We believe he is arguably the number 1 player in the world. We feel he has a lot of marketing potential. There is a value there that's not being accessed," said DeHaan.
Oliver is no stranger to the Ironmen and Dye. He's had a long term relationship with Dye and even played with the Ironmen before rejoining Dynasty just before the team's tremendous rise to popularity a few years ago.
Dave wouldn't discuss exactly how much Oliver was offered, saying, "At the minimum he will be making six figures. It's only going to grow from that point forward. This is a big thing for the industry. It adds legitimacy for paintball players as a whole."
From other sources close to the deal, we've heard Oliver was offered at least $100,000.
But what about all the hardcore Dynasty fans? According to DeHaan, signing Oliver is the largest deal of its kind in paintball, but Dye has also been in talks with all of Dynasty itself.
"We have been in negotiations with Dynasty, in terms of sponsoring the whole team. We threw a deal at them that exceeded $500,000 over three years and were rejected on the deal," said DeHaan.
So Dye got the next best thing: Oliver Lang.
Dye is certainly aware there may be some negative backlash among Dynasty fans, but sees this as a positive step forward; not for only Dye and Oliver, but for all of paintball.
"People always don't like seeing change. I'm sure there will be (backlash)," said DeHaan.
But this new Oliver Lang deal provides an unprecedented benchmark in paintball. In many ways it legitimizes the sport to have highly paid athletes.
As the deal stands now, “Oliver Lang will be paid to be Oliver Lang.” He will still travel the world, play paintball, do autograph signings, and be the poster boy for Dye. Eventually DeHaan sees the possibility for an Oliver Lang signature series of parts, although that won't happen right away.
According to Dye, they will be sending out press releases on Monday, and Oliver will probably be making a statement of his own on his website.

dye might have offered him better bonuses and the royalities and stuff like that, you never know they could be the Dye, ollie lang range coming out,
To all of you who will never really understand the real story unless you could talk to me in person, which is even something that Rodney did not even do before he chose to put this on the internet.
Fisrt of all, I think it's funny how these opportunities arise after the decision, and path that I had already chose.
When the guys made me an offer to stay for a paid salary to continue playing with Dynasty for one more year, I was Honored. It was truly an amazing gesture. The fact of the matter was that I didn't want to take money from individuals that were so kind to offer. It's not like I can't eat right now or put a roof over my head, i'm not out to make a quick buck. I am looking for long term security, I am looking for something that could secure my future for more than one year. I'm looking at the big picture, five, ten years down the line.
With This opportunity I will have health benifits, insurance, and a retirement plan (401k).
I will be able to learn how a company works and learn the business behind paintball. This will allow me to stay active and be a huge part in developing and innovating the best products.
I never wanted to ask for anything more from Dynasty, because I just never thought that it was fair.
The Guys had asked me to not make a decision for the next couple of days, until they could lock in a sponsorship deal. Since I am going to do everything in my power to win the first event in Texas, I had to be playing with the team I was most likely going to be playing with in two weeks. I didn't want to practice with Dynasty and have the role that I had on the team, and then leave them the following week.
As im driving to Hollywood sports on sunday with the decision already made up knowing that I will be playing against the team that I have been playing with for the past four years (which alone is an extremely difficult thing to do). I received a phone call from Adam Gardner, which was a very amiable thing for him to do. He wanted to offer me something similar to what DYE was offering. The truth of the matter is it's not very realistic to have a job in Latrobe, PA, when I have a job 15 minutes from my house.
At that point I knew that not only have I made a change for myself, but I had set a standard for all of us that want to make it in this sport. I was thinking to myself, if that offer is on the table for me, that offer is on the table for someone like Ryan, Yosh, BC, or whoever wants it. That was their money, their golden ticket to secure their future, and make something of all the hard work that they have done. Truthfully, everyone on that team desveres the world, they have earned it. It's up to you, in life, to grab it by the horns and make what you want out of it.
I had given DYE my word already, and I was not about to get into a bidding war because that was never my intention. I do this because I love paintball, but when I was in high school I was so caught up in this paintball thing that I never thought about the future. I was content with traveling the world and doing what I love.
This will not last forever, and unless you do somthing with it, it will all just be fond memories in the past.
When this is all set and done and we want to pack it up, some people are going to have careers and financial security. I, on the other hand, do not have a college degree( which if i could go back and do it over I would have gotten an eduaction) nor well off parents. ALL I HAVE IS PAINTBALL! This was my dream, my passion, and the only thing I ever wanted to do. Guess what, my dream has come true. Those guys are my friends and family, but friends and family understand when you have to do what's right for yourself, and they support you along the path you choose.
This, like I said, was by far the most difficult thing I have ever had to endure, but it will all be worth it when I can do what I love to do as my profesion and be secure in the future.
The first thing I am going to do is buy my mom health insurance and pay her back for the wonderful life she has given to me. She is so proud of me in what I have done, and it is by far, very far from over!
Bottom line is I don't care if you support me or understand this because my true friends, my "Family," and fans will.
If you choose not to, its your decision, and I don't need you to be anyone of those in that case.
I will continue to work hard and take the Ironmen to the top, and do my every best to succeed in my life long career decision.
Thanks for taking the time to read and understand my point of view.

Im sure Rdny will.
Oh that's right ethan you were there. Straight from the horses mouth as to why he left and your still not satisfied. But i'm sure what Rodney says will be gospel, because it was him, ollie and Dave in the meeting. i say good on him for looking out for his future.
I thought you didn't like smart parts? So i thought you would be happy he left? What do you have against him?

I dont see what all the fuss is.
He, like any pro sportsman made a decision which is in his best interests. Why should he have to tell the whole world the exact details of his deal with Dye. Its no one elses business.
Smartparts frankly farked up. They have known for ever that Dye, and any other manufacturer would give their left nut to snare Dynasty or a part of. To entice Ollie to a differant team they would obviosuly not have been in the ball park.
EDIT: Id also add that when your 40, saying that you stuck to one team, lived in the dynasty house, and was voted best paintballer in the world doesnt count for shit if your broke, with no job, no education and sleeping in a gutter.

Official response to Ollie Lang's departure
As most people already know, Oliver Lang has left Dynasty to play for the Ironmen and work for DYE.
As of the past weekend, Oliver Lang no longer plays, nor is involved in any part of Dynasty Paintball Club, LLC. Acting on his own, without consulting any of the members of Dynasty, Oliver made a decision to join DYE and his original pro team, Ironmen.
Of course we were all in shock about Oliver's decision, mainly because we have all been so close for several years and we were not given any prior notice, or the chance to negotiate with Oliver. Although some people may have hard feelings, both on our side, as well as fans, Dynasty wishes Oliver the best of luck with his decision, and in his future.
Oliver is an amazing player, and his energy and emotional strength will be missed on the field, but Dynasty will continue to be on the forefront of paintball, and we promise all of our fans and our sponsors that we will keep our heads up and give everything we have to continue as the number 1 ranked team in the world.
Thank you to everyone who understands and supports us.
