I'm new here and was shocked that not all states could play paintball.
First WA then Vic have become legal to play paintball.
Who's left?
I have a mate in Melbourne who will freak when he finds out he doesn't have to travel 4 or 5 hours to play.:armed:
To whoever id the footwork to get this done I thank you:respekt:
I dont think this is official yet...
Im assuming that they are presuming that the laws will be changed by then.
Will find out and report back as soon as I know for sure.

WHOOHOO. Now Victorians can step into 21st century:clap:
Nope, its not set in stone yet.... :hammer:
Could be quite a while.... no time frame has been given for these changes so hold on tight and hurry up and wait
Neil I have a copy of the legislation, as of 1st January 2006 you will not need a licenseto play paintball the paintball operators will have the license. If you wish to own your own marker you will need a permit to acquire, and a license, but is a paintball license not a shooters license like before, as before to dispose or purchase a marker will be done throught a Gun Dealer
Regards Barb
Ok Barb...I hope you are right...the sooner the better
My sources tell me that it hasnt been done but Im guessing you are getting the info first hand.

Nope sorry guys. Not set in stone yet. Till its in the mail, its not set. There is a draft legislation but it is not yet signed off on.
We are also taking bookings for January on the proviso that the laws are OFFICIALLY passed. All venues are taking bookings, BUT as you said Neil....its not yet set in stone.
I hope all goes to plan but we have been pretty close before and had it turned around on us. I have to say....I wont miss that highway up to Moama and back to Melbourne each weekend...lol
Booking at Carrum Downs are on 9555 0599.
Congratulations to our Victorian brothers, this is great news for the Paintballers over the whole country!

Once that laws pass, how would everyone have to go out and get a paintball licence? And how would you get one? Through a field?

The laws of owning a paintball marker are not changing. Just the laws of actually playing paintball for the general population. The great thing for Victoria is, clubs will now be able to run and have players participate that dont have their own markers. They can play and use others peoples gear.
Applications can be obtained via your local police station and then sent into firearms registration. The normal process will remain the same. Paintball markers are simply being moved to a lesser catagory.

Will you need to have your marker kept at a club or can you take it home.

There are no changes to current marker ownership laws. So i guess you will be able to continue to keep them at home.

Ive never had a problem with keeping a paintball marker at home in Vic.
(You just treat it as a cat A registered firearm in a locked firearms cabinet)

But here it says that you will only need a paintball licence, not a shooters one.

No such thing as a PAINTBALL licence. It will still be covered by your Firearms licence only on a lessor catagory.

Excuse my ignorance, but why does it say that the amnesty for playing paintball in Victoria without a licence is only until 30 June 2006:confused:
Knew I shouldn't have got into the Bundy already :o but it goes so well with breakfast...
Excuse my ignorance, but why does it say that the amnesty for playing paintball in Victoria without a licence is only until 30 June 2006:confused:
"Due to a range of administrative and practical concerns, the Amendment Act will be commenced in stages, beginning on 1 January 2006 and concluding on 1 July 2008."
From my reading of this, it will take a while for all the changes to be enacted, however, by declairing an amnesty from 1/1/06 it means that despite all the changes not taking place yet, no action will be taken against anyone who plays or allows anyone to play without a license during this time.

Licensing will need 6 months to sort out what administrative paper work, safety courses, and further requirements are needed.
Basically it is to allow the field operators to operate for the "holidays" - finally after 9 years.
NT will be next. :) I am currently talking to my local member about the legalising of Paintball.
