What is best CO2 Or Air??

Well i am new to paintball, and was wondering is it better to get a marker with co2 or air??

And what are the advantages/disadvantages between co2 and air??

air.. CO2 is not consistant, wears ur marker internals and causes gun freeze at high ROF. it's also even worse in cold weather. i get velocity fluctuations of +/- 40 and massive drop off shooting at only 5 or 6bps, and that's on a good day..

AIR for sure, :thumbsup: other guys are pretty accurate in what they are saying about CO2.

And apart from that, Air is a lot easier to get refills for. Straight from a Scuba tank

Another quick question, how long does an air tank last? Like how many paintballs will it fire before it needs to be re-filled??

depends what size and pressure tank and how efficeint the marker is. a 68cu 4500psi tank will usually give you 1400 shots per fill, but if u're using something like a shocker, u may only get 800ish whereas with an intimidator or something, it's possible to get over 2000 per fill. so it depends -- if u post what u're looking at (tank size/pressure and marker) we can probably estimate for u.

Well im prob lookin to purchase an ION as they seem to be the marker of choice, what size tank would I need for that marker?

If i have a larger tank with more pressure is that going to give me more velocity? nd will it make the paintballs shoot a lot harder and faster?

Im also going with an ion when i get the money. However i dont know alot about air tanks so at the moment im looking at the 68cu 4500psi with this they estimate 1400 shots.
Then you can get LP or HP.

driftn_S6, um.. paintball doesn't really work that way. basically, u'll set ur velocity to the field limit (like 285 feet per second) and u'll be shooting the same as every other marker on the field.. same distance, same speed, irrespective of the size of ur tank or the pressure it's filled at.

there is no tank size that u "should" have for the ion, u can choose.. if u play up front, u might want something small like a 45cu, whereas up back maybe the larger 91cu. the only difference is the number of shots u'll get off each tank. having a larger tank has nothing to do with pressure. for the ion, u should go for a high pressure rated tank because some people experience drop off with low pressure output.

Like Dan says, it's really where you want to play, Front or Back. Smaller tank for the front, larger for the back.

Tank size doesn't impact the speed and distance you can shoot, all it does is hold a specific amount of Air. The marker regulates how much of that air is used per shot, and also how fast. Field's regulate that you can't shoot fast than about 285 feet per second. Any faster and you will get asked to lower it down for the safety of others.

You also need to look at what pressure the tank is rated for, usually 3000psi or 4500 psi. If you play front and dont want to have a heavy tank, I suggest looking at getting a 45 or 60 cubic inch tank at 4500psi pressure. Will allow you to play without needing to refill after every game.

yeah but another thing to note is the cost, you can get a large co2 tank (20 oz) for about $60 i think wheras a similar sized air tank can cost something like $400. if you are going to get the ion co2 is not an option so consider this befor u buy anything
