Hi guys and girls,
Im new here so sorry if im repeating questions already asked, i havent had time to go through all the things people have posted in the past.
I just have a couple of questions.
1) where would people suggest i get a marker from, im in S.A so are there any good shops here or is it best to get one shipped in from interstated??
2)is anyone doing anything or is there anything that we as members of the public can do about the situation on paintballing and purchasing paintball markers. i have recently got my firearms liscence puerly so i can purchase a paintball gun, which is pretty expensive to do seeing as all i want is a paintball marker. (it may be different in other states) but i think it is crazy that i can go out and purchase a hunting crossbow with telescopic sight and silencers (yes, you can get silencers on crossbows, so you odnt scare away other animals i guess, and im not making it up, i was looking at them the other day) and not even have to give a name or show any form of ID. this crossbow, which is far more deadly than a paintball marker is able to be sold to anyone with enough money. There are others out there that will disagree with me and i respect that, but my humble opinion is that this is crazy and something should be done about it. So, if anyone knows anyone that is doing anything or any patitions that need to be signed that would be great. Anyway, i think thats enough for me first post, hope to hear from you guys soon.

sorry but you need a licence for a crossbow and im pretty sure a silencer for one would be totally illegal as even pb silencers are illegal.
to buy markers ect start at www.actionpaintball.com. i think they will ship interstate

Ok, i'll trust what your saying but I have a hunting bow, i was in getting arrows for it the other day and asked the owner of the shop if the crossbows he had needed a liscence, he said that you didnt, then a guy came in and bought one with silencers (they are things that go on the string to stop it making a noise when you let the bolt go) said it as for shooting cats of his back fence at night!! but i guess maybe they could have bought in something lately.
thanks for your post, i'll checkout the shop you suggested.
Id have to say here in NSW i know that bows and paintball markers and guns are all considered the same. Weapons and all need a licence

If you want to get more involved in paint ball petej711 come along to www.paintballsports.com.au Kuitpo on the 25th Sept at 11.00 am and all your questions will try to be answered.

.
If you want a marker you need a SA gun license.
If you want to play Rec Ball hook up through your local field or go along to this new club thingy being organised (you will find the link in the RecBall section)
If you want to play tournament ball then rock up to the SAPPA round 4 comp and ask questions of players.
Also remember to work out your budget as markers range from $160+ to $2,000+

Crossbows and Bows arent firearms -he is correct - a 12 year old can walk in with $400 and by a top notch hunting crossbow capable of punching through a man. -same with bows (in WA it seems to be the case) - i've asked a few stores owners about it... its absurd... but the good thing about it is that we dont have tools getting into teh sport - buying a gun safe and getting a liscence is a big detterent for idiots just looking to hurt people at school...

remember that weapons licencing is a state resposibility...answers will vary depending upon state. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK ALL YOUR ANSWERS WITH THE RELEVANT LICENCING AUThORITY..."I did it because this guy on the net told me to" is not a good enough reason when on charge for a weapon related offence.

Froggie, :respekt: I hope this doesn't sound too brash, but;
If my barrel is ported, doesn't that suppress the amount of noise I get at the end of my barrel. Therefore making a ported barrel the equivalent of a supressor.
Doesn't the Apex system suppress sound and appear like a silencer
I just want to point out that as a competitive sport we want to mask our appearance and presence on the field as much as possible. The porting on our barrels ( my dye 16" ultralight ) stops us being a sniping "one hit wonder" and having to move to a new spot once we've fired.
As paintball progresses towards a stealthy tag type game, our equipment tends to blur the lines between legal and not so legal. We tread a fine grey line between legal / social acceptance and professional / recreational performance. PeteJ might appreciate the point I hopefully made here.

Damon,
You are completely correct in your consideration of the "lines" as such.
Yes, there is a very large, and growing, grey area, however, if we all play by the rules, submit the correct paperwork to the correct department(s) and obtain the items legally, then in any event, we hare covered our own arses.
The only point that needs to be made, remembered and drilled into anyone and everyone in this sport, whether you are new or have been at this for years is that if we play by the rules, state and federal and do all the correct things at the correct times, then we are covered.

Damon you obviously haven't heard an A5 in action.. mine is so loud it's not funny with either the massively ported freak barrel and more so with my Apex! I can't be a camping one hit wonder coz as soon as I light someone up the whole field knows where I am O_o
