View Full Version : Australian paint ball - Pistols?

Hi -im new to the boards, and as paintball is newly legal in WA i was considering purchasing a marker.

The group of guys i play with have been considering some scenario play using pistols only - and i was wondering if anyone has any experiance with pistols, wether they are legal in australia and what woudl be reccomended as a good pistol?

originally i had been looking at the delta.68 as it seems to be popular in teh US, but after talking with their tech guys i found it cannot take a remote feed, As we dont want to be swapping air every 20 shots this sort of put a downer on the gun.

i was informed that the pt JR can take a constant feed, but that the line comes from teh front of the gun -which to me seems a stupid design -as surely a remote feed would be better coming from teh handle?

so, i guess i shall leave my questions for you.

-Can we get pistols in australia?
-which Pistols are worth considering?
-are there any pistols which can take a remote line that is fed through the grip?

thanks for your time.

Thats true but to expand on it a bit does anyone know WHY they are illegal? something I have wondered about

I think because they can be concealed very easy and can cause the same sort of damage as a normal marker

They are too short

they'd be well under the 75cm rule we have in QLD ... making them a concealable weapon.

They are too short

Yeah in SA they are too shot so don't fit into the Cat. of Firearms that we are allowed to own. (Think this applies to all states?)

Also FYI any Paintball Marker that resembles a real gun is out to...

Cheers
Chris

i think australian paintball laws need to be reviewed by someone... i mean... the september 11 crap wouldnt have gone ahead if tehy tried to use a paintball pistol to hijack the planes.... in other words if 'box cutters' are legal and more dangerus than paintball pistols yet we dont have to carry around 75cm long box cutters i think theres some room for change in the laws.

The laws are there for a reason, however silly it may seem to us.
And people who break those laws should be punished before the illegal markers that they have distributed fall into the wrong hands and do some real damage.

the concealable weapon law is valid because please who dont know about gun and stuff may mistake a paintball pistol for a real one and it could be used in a hold up also if you do have a box cutter on you and the police find you with it you need a valid reason to be carrying it same with a baseball bat or anything else remotly like a weapon.

yeah the paintball pistols do look a lot more like a real handgun than a full sized marker looks like an assult rifle.

Agreed - even tho i loved the idea of using a pistol over a 'rifle/smg' styled marker they are damn real looking -wave one at a cop and you are going to be shot.... mind you the laws governing paintball are stupid.

quite frankly, if i were to take an A5 with flatline and wave it at a police officer i would also get shot... prehaps not such an issue with a anno'd gun that is all silver and gold and blue.... but its a bit hard to make the call on where to draw the line on 'realism'

-another issue i have - just found out that solid stocks for paintball markers are fine -yet a collapsable stock is illegal? -who figured that one out? (well -according to Dman and Action this is the case -as Action is supposedly getting in solid stocks...)

i mean how stupid a scenario is this:

Person one has a solid stock - metal - quite capable of icapacitating someone if swung at them in true rambo fashion

Person Two has a collasable plastic stock (typical in yankee land) yet the fact it is collapsable makes it illegal -because being collapsable it is more easily concealed.... yes, what with a hopper and air its a well small weapon... could walk around with one in your pants practically... :S

-on another note tho - i talked to a fellow over in america about importing stocks and such - and he tells me that he has in fact been successfully importing these kits:
http://www.specialopspaintball.com/shopmc/a5a2_kit.pdf
-the buttstock and foregrip mod for an A5 - and has had no probs with customs.... (app his last order was into OZ 1 month ago -pretty recent -no probs)now, who decided that realism law was needed -yet this sort of stuff is still let in? i dont understand any of it...

Frankly - the fact that it requires a gun liscence means that idiots dont have access to the markers (unlike america where a 12 year old can walk into wallmart and make a purchase) - and it would be good if we were given a little more freedom with our markers... Having grown up in the country, i find tourney styled markers are not natural to shoot - and prefer the look of some of the Yankee mods (ie the more comfortable 'flat' rifle design)... but if it means getting arrested for importing arms or having a 'real' looking marker its not really worth it...

mebbe its just me...

How bout a tourney with pistols only! that would be funny

Logan

i can understand why pistols are illegal tho - they really do look very real -from five feet, someone waving one at you yelling for your money -all you are going to notice is the massive bore...

but as i said - if someone waves an A5 with flatline at you -you will also probably think its real... (some people would anyway)

but what gets me is that they are specific enough to allow solid stocks, yet not allow collapsable ones.... i mean.... why make that definition? either illegal or not... tis a shame someone who actually knows something about the sport isnt in charge of governing the laws... and where do they draw the line on 'realism'? - cause it sure would suck to put something on your marker only to have the police rock up to a feild and decide to confiscate your marker...

my dear ThC

- you may notice im not actually taking any side on this debate... - im merely questioning the laws and how they decide what is illegal and whats not.

- a solid stock is legal. collapsable is not
pistol is too realistic, yet an a5with flatline and stock is not (looks like hk's mp5)
the whole situation is stupid - noone really seems to know where the line is drawn and a marker becomes 'realistic'

and ill continue writing my 'essays'

bEcAuSe i FinD iT aNnOyInG to KeEp UsInG ShIfT....

seriously tho -you'll love this one http://www.specialopspaintball.com/shopmc/a5a2_kit.pdf
-i think they might even include a red rambo rag with it too. :armed:

whateva happened to this dvd of firestorms almighty tourney glory you were talking about? was hanging out for the mail...- it may have even persuaded me more towards a tourney gun

tho in the end i opted for the a5 -twas cheaper -and more what i was lookign for... get to test it out on Dman this weekend  have a nasty feeling i am going to respect his 'phaser' (DM5 i believe) alot more after gettign lit up a few times.... heh, still... get to learn a bit :whip: like how to get shot... shall be fun.
