View Full Version : Rec Ball Games
Mindless

we play rec ball fairly constantly, and the standard Elimination and capture the flag games (though still fun) are starting to get a little stale.
can anyone offer any decent games or post a link to a site that has some interesting games? we don't have a large field so anything really large is obviously not really handy :P
thanks

Play all on all but keep a strict close eye as the game can become dangerous

Mindless and I play most weekends and the free for all is what we are trying this weekend, fields consist of mostly knee high grass unless mowed and about no more than 15 barricades. usually minimum of 8 players usually around 12 - 16. Any other games u heard of

i like the sound of this one. kinda like a flag hang, but both teams kinda start with their own flag? No risk of actually picking the flag first could be intneresting. Especially if we modify that to utilise 3 teams -> each team as a base on one field (3 bases, 3 teams) that could be pretty tight.
Another one i heard of a few days ago:
Hostage. (example is utilising 14 players)
Team A: 1x hostage, 6 x markers
Team B: 7 x markers
Team B has to win by laying hands on the hostage (all players are told who the hostage is at the start of the game) Team A must stop team B from winning.
Sounds simple enough, but the catch is that the hostage HAS to do whatever team A tells him/her to do. (eg: Stand out in the open to lure Team B into traps, or to tell team B false information etc...)
wondering if anyone else has played that? I thought that manipulating the enemy with the hostage would be interesting.

You can thinkk up an endless amount of games. All it takes is a little imagination and resources. YOu can try by replicating manourvres, but script it.
For example... a fighting withdrawl: two teams. One attacking with unlimited respawn. One defending with limited if no respwan have to delay the attackers geting to objective within x amount of time. Make sure though that fortifications favour the defenders greatly. also include choke points and so on to make overrunning or outflanking of defenders positions more difficult if not impossible.
Guerilla infiltration: Larger team with pumps and limited rounds (say as little as 30) infiltrating in tight bush or complex 'urban' village set up against small team with tricked out autocockers or the like with unrestricted ammo. The environment needs to be tight and complex to allow attackers to close with their enemy in order to get off well aimed accurate shots and even out the odds. None of this 30 metres between barricades, huge firelane stuff. Either objective based or elimination victory conditions (or both). Respwan as you choose.
Assaults on fixed and established defensive positions...areas with critical points such as two paintball markers fixed to a rotating, covered platform similar to a machine gun post [ . =man, ) =shield, - =gun: .)- ]. To take the position it needs to be overrun or attacked from behind. Whoever holds the objective at a specified time (lets say it's strategic role is as a Fire Support platform for an upcoming attack by theoretical reinforcements) wins.
Booby trap your bush fields. Remember the pictures of swinging spiky log traps from 'Nam? Hang bags of paint connected to trip wires from overhanging tree boughs. Do this in context with an aggressive patrolling scenario and pump action weilding guerillas. Do it at night (Guerillas in static ambush position have distinct advantage against moving patrol [which wasn't textbook for infantry coys in 'nam as i understand it but it makes it fun!] at night time). Employ lone "snipers" to harrass the patrol to make their patrol more eventful up to the point of ambush. This could be conducted over a track no longer than 150 metres and still last 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the aggression and skill of teams. 2 Refs move with the patrol after ambushing team is prepared.
I thought all of those up on the spot. Just get creative. I am excited just thinking of it all. hehehehehe

On one team are your best players. They are the drug lords. On your other team are most of the players. In the drug lord controlled area is a hidden base. In the base is hidden a bag of cash. Preferably in coin and heavy. At the big teams end is a box. The attacking team player, who places the cash in the box keeps it. It is ok to shoot a member of your own team to take the cash of him.
I set up a scenario like this 15 years ago. It was very popular and quite a tricky game.
The ferret ,who found the cash sat on it for ages, while others dug all around him.
How about a football type game, you can carry the ball forward and pass to other players. Once hit you have to drop the ball where you stand and return to the respawn point back at the starting point. No passing forward only back or lateral, adjust the amount of respawns per team to suit, adjust time limits. It's a change I suppose.

I played a game like this at Top Gun, respawns for 10 mins, then no respawns for the next 10. something like 10 points for first team to gain posession, 15points for scoring team...never thought of passing it though. Spose i am just one greedy bugger hey???
Sorry for stealing your idea about the paint booby traps Vonsplatt!!! Good idea though. Couldn't let it go unheard.

We also play a frizbee game where each team tries to recover a frizbee from the middle of the field and get it onto the opponents side of the field. Who evers side its on at the end of 5 minutes is the looser. Throw it into a nice open position and watch them trying to get to it without geting blasted...
