Im sorry if this has been asked and answered before. How many fills can you expect to get out of a full scuba tank.
I have a MacDev 3000 psi 68 preset bottle.
Cheers

You can get heaps of fills - depends if you're looking for 3000psi or not..
Usually there's 2 cylinders - 1 to bulk the cylinder, and the second to top it off..
From a single large air cylinder - you should expect about 6 -8 quality fills.. then it'll drop off in pressure - thats where you use the second.. good for team days.. and cylinders hold their resale value too !

Thank you
2 bottles is what I will get.

Thought I'd ask a question in a related post, rather than write a new one.
To use a scuba tank to fill an paintball air bottle, what sort of instruments do you need? - fittings, some sort of regulation device to restrict airflow coming out of scuba tank, guage etc.

Ring Action Paintball on 0296790011 they have Scuba fill stations.

by 'scuba fill stations' do you mean I can fill my paintball 20 oz tank there, or do they sell fittings etc. for a scuba tank so I can do it myself?
fill station looks like this and clamps directly to a scuba tank. Allows you to simply plug your air system (not 20oz co2 bottle) in and refill. Call Action for more details.

You wil only get about 1800psi (air or nitrogen pressure) in a 20oz tank as the burst disks will blow from memory.......no doubt someone will correct me if I'm wrong, plz don't try and put thicker burst disks in place or double them up or block them off to raise the pressure you can put in the vessel, as you will blow you stupid head off,
Think of the burst disk as a safety valve,
I was told many years ago if a 20oz tank explodes (vents to atmosphere, blows up) it has the explosive force of about 3 hand grenades.
20oz tanks are really meant for C02 (carbon dioxide gas), you fill them by weight not pressure...............hence the 7oz, 12oz and 20oz bottle descriptions......

Yes NEVER fill a 20oz,12oz or any other oz tank with compressed air or nitrogen.You must use Co2 in them only.
You must buy the approved Aus standards fibre wrapped bottles that are made to hold air/nitrogen if you would like to fill from a scuba tank.

yes I know, I wouldnt ever fill a CO2 tank with air, I understand that putting substances under extreme pressure and then containing them is dangerous enough, without putting it into a tank used for some other substance.
Cheers guys

This info has been taken from various sources around the net (I have way to much spare time) :help:
SHOTS PER TANK SIZE: The average marker with a 3000psi HPA system gets about 1 shot (cycle) for every 10psi. A 4500psi tank gets about 1 cycle for every 7.5psi. This may vary marker to marker. Low(er) pressure markers like Impulses, Autocockers, Matrices, and Angels will have higher gas efficiency. High(er) pressure markers such as Spyders and Spyder-like blow-backs will have lowered gas efficiency.
Nitro/compressed air Systems:
3000psi tanks deliver about 10 shots per cubic inch
68ci = 680 shots
88ci = 880 shots
114ci = 1140 shots
4500psi tanks can deliver 15 shots per cubic inch
68ci = 1020 shots
88ci = 1320 shots
114ci = 1720 shots
Co2 Systems:
9 oz - 350 shots
12oz - 500 shots
16 oz - 700 shots
20 oz - 900 shots
REFILLING FROM SCUBA TANK: When filling from your SCUBA tank to your Paintball tank, you are effectively creating one big tank (as the pressure between both will equalize). A more effecient method is more than two SCUBA tanks in series used to fill the Paintball tank at one time. :thumbsup: Not the idea of part fill from one tank, then another and so on (you actually vent/loose a section of compressed gas every time you disconect) :thumbsdow
So if you have a semi-empty small 1.1lt (68ci) Paintball tank on your marker with 400psi (lets say that is the minimum you want it to drop to before refilling), being filled from a 13.2lt (105cft SCUBA tank) with 3200psi (220bar) of pressure.
At first refill
1.1lt * 400 = 440 ppv (pressure per volume)
13.2lt * 3200 = 42240 ppv
combined ppv / combined volume = shared pressure
42680 / 14.3 = both cylinders would end up with 2984psi in them.
At second refill
1.1lt * 400 = 440 ppv (pressure per volume)
13.2lt * 2984 = 39388 ppv
combined ppv / combined volume = shared pressure
39828 / 14.3 = both cylinders would end up with 2785psi in them.
At third refill
1.1lt * 400 = 440 ppv (pressure per volume)
13.2lt * 2785 = 36762 ppv
combined ppv / combined volume = shared pressure
37202 / 14.3 = both cylinders would end up with 2818psi in them.
And so on till the SCUBA tank runs out, this can happen quickly with 5 team-mates and one tank at during practice. :cry: Also note that doing the figures for a 10.5lt (88cft SCUBA tank, std. HIRE tank) would only allow you 5-10 more shots between refills.
GOLDEN RULE: Never let a tank go below 300psi, ever OR you can have normal (UNCLEAN/CONTAMINATED) air get in and it can cause premature failure of the tank.
If anyone can disprove this, please let me know.

never heard of the 300psi thing before

I dont have a fibre wrapped bottle? (Standard 48/3000 PMI), can I still fill from a scuba tank with the fill station? (is it legal, will people let me?) :help:

Yes mate, you can fill your steel HPA tank from a scuba tank. It's completely safe to do.
Steel HPA tanks and CO2 tanks sometimes look similar. The main difference is that the HPA tank has a pressure gauge below the threads of the bottle, and a CO2 tank doesn't.
HPA is measured by pressure. CO2 is measured by weight.
