Whats a good video camera to use on fields? Like does anyone know of any brand that has some sort of hard casing you can buy as an addon. like the scuba outfits for cams?

Let's put it like this..
be prepared for it to get painted.. if you just start with a cheap one.. you can't go wrong..
else, if you want to take a risk..
at wots round 4, alot of people shot footage using a hard perspex box built for their camera's..
personally, I don't stand in the line of fire - I use my zoom.. and I have a digital JVC with all the fruit... I also have an old 8mm analogue which I use.. but its one of those ones with the big screen on the back and flat.. good for replaying training days and such..
I wouldn't shell out for a diving box, they're not made to withstand impact from paintballs..

nah nah i know it would get painted. I was thinking about getting a mini dv camera with a scuba outfit (sealed hard plastic that can withstand great water pressure) the only thing is that most of them come with a lense cover that is customised for underwater. Their also bit expensive. pfft.
It wouldnt be hard to make a mould outa perspex thanks for the idea.

Just be real careful when taping and you should be right.

Okay
You can spend $900 on a domestic Mini DV
A Canon Xm1 or 2 mini Dv like Derder uses - will set you back $4,800AU
A professional DV camera $15,000
A cheapy digital professional $30,000
A nice lovely new shiny digibeta maybe $85,000
Your choice !!

Yeah, I'd agree with the perspex box. I'm a stills photographer, and in roder to get the money shots, it would be hard to get in the action without destroying valuable equipment. but for the mobile photographer, a perspex box is not suitable at all, what would anyone recomend for us wanting to get more mobile on the field, and protect our exe cameras?

hahahaha the impact from a paintball is gonna be greater than pressure exerted by the ocean on a housing???????

also with the diving housings the camera can heat up the inside and you can get condensation build ups and fogging of the lenses

The housings are frigging $$$$$.
Your best bet is to cut up an old wetsuit and sew it to fit the camera, and have a clear filter on the lens.
That will take most of the impact of the ball.

ahhh stuff that i think id rather risk the camera :P ive managed to get awsome shots with $100 digital cameras. Besides if you know your camera and its defects in design you can often use the defects to get awsome results. I just want images high quality enough to print on large banners. like 1200dpi and full size.
Ive looked into it for ages. I might prototype something or just resort to a decent cheap film based camera and get negatives scanned.

I used to work for a magazine and our company "car" had vinyl stickers covering the entire van with photos on it.
Let me go looking for a photo...

Best photo I could find.
Ignore the hooligans in front.
The were shot with an F5 and printed out on a MASSIVE printer.
They were a bastard to apply, I heard.
Sidenote:
I christened that van!

you can get raincoats >> or make one.
most camera's wont break when hit... a wrap up in Gladwrap works.
But if you can fit a filter on the lense << do so >> body's can be cleaned.... lenses it will scratch the coating

Next year i will be mounting a spy camera on my barrel and i will have it transmitted to a handy cam or tv/video to record it.
I dont know how it will work or come out but good for a look anyway.

I run off two nikons, a F-90X and an F-75, and apart from the fact that they are f***king expensive, Nikon are a bitch when it comes to repairs, and so forth. but yeah, screw digi's I think, good for somethings, but the resolution you can get on say an 800asa film beats the shit out of an 8 megapixel digi in image quality. but if you want absolutely joy tourney shots, spend more and buy some slide film. the best quality pictures ever!! We digress, that's a whole different thread!

Nah cant do that. Contact is never "clear" it isnt really "clear" just examine it and you'll see. If i found a clear adhesive i would know about it trust me

that would be ripped off depending on the angle the paintball hits.

Contact will leave a residue on the lens also.
Your best bet is to be elevated above the field of play.
