just curious as this happened at the masters to one of my team mates
when filling your bottle should it be switched of from the marker, sounds wierd but he accidentally switched it on when filling and the macroline blew out.
Cant see how it could cause any probs but thought I'd ask to be safe

It's best if the macro blows first, before the bottle does.

the pressure in the line should have been 750psi when it blew, unless the maxflo screwed up

i cant see how that would make any difference unless there was a problem with his macro line it coulda been damaged somewhat and it blew cause it was aired up suddenly.....when filling the air goes into your cylinder first so i cant see how it would by pass the regualtion process of the reg
Get rid of the macro line!
Over the years seen plenty of it blow out, sometimes mid game, other times in the pits and scaring the hell out of everyone!
I know braided stainless isnt as nice looking but it is much much stronger, I personally have never seen it fail (Im sure there are cases of it happening though).
Plastic line usually fails on hot days when it is more soft and pliable, another fail point with macro line is the fittings, they are simply quick release fittings and only ultimately hold the line in with tiny "jaws" that bite into the plastic hose, this arrangement wears everytime you gas up or take the hose out of the fitting when you pack your gear away.
Get a stainless braided line and a quick release coupling (the 8 ball ones if you can) and you should never have to worry about that aspect of the marker again!
Just my 2 cents..............................

Hmm it was a new section of line i put on for the tourney. it burst right in the middle >> mid section of the curve from the vertical reg to the maxflo. poor toad!

pball style flexible pvc macroline often= swp 250 psi
"semi rigid" pvc which looks and feels the same but has thicker walls and is stiffer = swp 650 psi
burst pressure ratings of pvc style hose is usually around 3 times the swp
so as you can see with the flexible pball style hose you only have to get in the 600-800psi range and you are risking a failure.
most pvc products are sensitive to temperature and solvents so all ratings change relative to the ambient conditions and age
the 1/4 inch "semi rigid" hose is only about $1:50 a meter at most industrial suppliers so all macroline should be replaced regularly
as Neil said if your fitting is faulty or the hose poorly connected you will have a leak or failure
to make sure of a good connection the hose should be forced into the fitting until it will go no further.
I have never seen the "semi rigid" hose burst even when used with high pressure air systems that were running 850 psi from the tank to the gun.
I have seen quite a few of the flexible type blow out.
Maybe this is just me, but id rather have a nice cheap inexpensive piece of macroline blow and be the weakest link, rather than have an excessive amount of pressure go through a braided hose and deliver all its nastiness to my marker's inline reg and internals....

scared is not the word I started counting fingers and toes :help:
Bet the first thing you checked for damage was your bandana around your neck

it is best to turn off adjustable air sytems when filling them (conquests, angel airs etc) screw ins dont matter if the asa is on or off. stick with macro line, if it blows you know there is a problem that needs to be fixed. braided hose as aggs says will let all the hp into inline regs and gun that can cause more damage than a $5 peice of line and a bit of a bruised ego!

I always turn off air systems when filling. You never know when a oring may fail and try to pump bottle pressure to your marker.

thanks guys, it was one of those things that wasn't really explained when I first started using air

oh come on what would john and james know about air systems....
good point john never really thought of that
and i would much rather have some plastic blow out than stainless steel rupturing

I've had a braided hose blow off. It was so loud it maked a macro line blowing sound like a fart in space.

nah the macroline ruptured in the middle and a small piece broke free and slammed into toads midsection
had similar happen when a collet gave way and blasted into my finger before ricochetting off and landing a good 30mtrs away
couldn't feel my finger for hours, thought I had broke it

god damm didnt think that stuff could be so dangerous never really heard of things like that happening, i mean i was warned when de gassing to be careful and all, i u didnt hold the macro when opening the max flo it could whip around on u
Well, I suppose if your air system dosent have a low pressure burst disc you might want to use micro line to avoid a full pressure issue going into your gun.
I think the only preset that comes with a low pressure burst disc is the new leigon air? :respekt:
Most adjustable ones, especially older ones anyway, come with a low pressure burst disc.
