Hey guys I am new to the form and new to paintball I have played a few times and love it . I am looking at makers at the moment and Like the look and the specs of the Tippman custom 98 ( the price fits my budget too) I would like to get some feed back on this marker and if it is good for a newbie ?

I am a bit of a newbie myself, but if you are going to buy a marker, don't buy a 98. The 98 custom is pretty much just a rental gun. If you buy it, you are going to want to upgrade very quickly when you see some of the entry level markers go off, let alone the pro level ones.
You will need to be prepared to spend at least $400 on a marker... Then there is the hopper and the air system. More money leaving your wallet.
If your buying a marker, don't go with C02. Air is a must.
Consider this until somebody more experienced replies. :o

Talk to Action Paintball or Paintball Australia
Also it depends on what level of play u want to play. If all you want to do is play rec and the like a 98 is perfect however if you want to play tournament style then a 98 wont cut it  If you want to play tourny style for about $700 - $800 you can get a decent electronic gun hopper and air system, have a bit of a look about on all the pro shop web pages ur sure to find somthing to meet your needs and wallet :D

Dude ring Adam from Adrenalin Plus Paintball for prices on Spyders that are in stock now !!!! PM me for details or check out the Website www.adrenalinplus.net.au .
It really depends on what type of game your interested in.
If its just Rec, then yes, a 98 is fine.
If however, your thinking of playing tournaments then its not the ideal choice.
Also, someone mentioned air.
Air is great, but only if its readily available where you are.
Thats an important point to consider.

Well my budget is looking to be about $ 600 so if any one can suggest a good entry level marker that I can get to start off with as a rec player then up grade so that I can play tournaments. At the moment I am planning to do training with Action paintball on Sundays then looking into buying a marker. I am planning to head out to the fields next Sunday so if anyone is training there on that day I would appreciate any advice you have to offer. And one other thing do any of you live in the Hornsby area as I don't drive yet (It makes my life a hell of allot harder) and if possible a lift to and from the field; would be great I can pay for petrol.
Thanx’s for all your help guys.

Hey Spook,
Tippmann make really good rental markers. The A5 is basicly the same as a 98, if you want to play socially it will do. If you want to start playing tournament ball they just wont cut it. We have several model semi auto's in stock that will suit your budget. The best thing I can suggest is to come out and have a go of several different types and find what suits your needs and what is comfortable for you to use.
I see it heaps of times, guys come out and buy brand "X" marker because someone said it was good or thats what they have their heart set on, and then a few months later they decide that they want something better and they lose several hundred $$$ in the process.
You may only have a small budget to spend, you may find that if you save for a few more weeks that you can get yourself something better that will last you longer that you wont have to upgrade.
As I said before, come in, touch, feel, shoot and work it out then.

Damn I could have fun with that line :D
This is tops though that they have the markers in stock and you can try them for comfort and fit. ( sounds like a cloths shop)
Talk to the pros and they will help you :)
Good one Action Paintball.

We just had a training day at Action today, im sure there will be a number of the usual crew down there next week.
Another thing to consider is its probably worth doing a few training days to make sure it is something that you do want to do and also will give you an idea of costs and whats involved etc.

This is the same advice i got when i started and its 100% true, dont just pick a marker until youve shot it and had a look, and save as much as you can and get the marker that will make you happy, cos compromising will only cost you A LOT MORE in a month or so.....and that is why they make credit cards anyways :o
they're right spook. Nothing beats try before you buy. When you've pretty much come to a decision on one find out as much information as you can about servicing, trouble shooting, upgrades etc. Also have you done all necessary licensing requirements? PTAs are going to take at least 5-7 weeks, assuming you already have a permit. This time frame could help the $ situation, and you're budget might be slightly higher by the end? Also consider that all semi autos need a safe that complies with firearms standards, I had a quick look on the net and you could pick up a small one for around $280 - $400, which would fit most markers with the barrel and tank removed. (these safes need to be bolted in if they're lighter than like 120k i think, something that can be a small problem if you're renting).
Good luck and have fun selecting, treat it like buying a car, find out as much as you can, test drive (shoot) and Im sure you'll make a good decision. :)

Have 2xA5. They don't shoot as fast as the electro markers but it's a good marker to start with. Fairly accurate and looks pretty mean too. You'll want to upgrade to air. My first try of the gun and I pretty much am buying a macdev preset. Go to a club day if you can and see the markers that are there the rate of fire is astounding. :D Gone are the days of the pump.
dystroya that is a good deal for the tippman and i am sure the spyders would be great but you have been on bills for months now saying you will buy this or buy that have you actually dropped into one of your local wa fields to try some guns and talk to the local resellers/players?
