At the risk (which is very high around here) of asking a stupid question, I'm going to go against my better judgement and do so anyway.
I have an EggII that I'd like to dye. Only problem is, I'm having a freakin hard time separating the two halves. And yes, all the screws are out, so don't even go there. Is there a trick or technique to splitting it, or should I just attack the bastard a little harder than I already have?...

Yours sincerely,
Bunkerboy

I had the same problem the first time I took my egg to bits.

they hate coming apart feels like they are gonna snap but it will work. Just use something to wedge it open a lottle bit at a time.

I dont use an egg but have pulled a few apart and from memory they are hard to seperate at the feed tube area coz they are dowelled..
just be more aggressive
btw the reason I dont use em is coz they break too easy!! LOL

Yeah Gero, thats the area that seems to be resisting the most. Time to get nasty me thinks:evil

Remember to undo the battery cover and remove the lid! Then just a bit of brought force is necessary.

Ta da!
Although it's not as dark or red as I would have liked it (1x packet scarlet, 1/2x orange Rit dye), I don't think it came out too bad:clap:

TRENT

Not to bad at all. I was waiting for you to ask how you put back together the egg though.

That was the idea. My Cyborg is that orangey red colour. I'll get some more red next week and do it again, because it is a little bit too orange for my liking, and doesn't quite match my marker. Gotta get these things right you know:p

you know you could just buy a red halo.

JJJ
25-10-2004, 07:33 AM
so i guess its not technically a clear hopper anymore?

Hardcore
25-10-2004, 07:35 AM
The NPPL rules, (as I interpret them) allowed people to dye their hoopers to avoid the "no clear hoppers" rule. So yeah, I guess they're legal.

bunkerboy

you know you could just buy a red halo.

Subtle mate;) Nah, the Egg is fine, but thanks for the suggestion:thumbsup: I've seen too many people having too many hassles with Halo's, plus my trigger fingers ain't that fast to warrant it.
And yes, the dyeing of the hopper is a blatant attempt to get around the "no clear hopper" rule, when and if it's implimented down here. Plus it looks way more agg to have everything colour co-ordinated:p

The funny thing about this whole episode is, the spoon I used to stir the parts with, and the plastic jug I used to heat the dye up with, all turned into the exact colour I wanted:(:o

Different type of plastic probably.

bunkerboy
25-10-2004, 07:45 PM
The spoon was wooden, and the jug made of that tan coloured plastic that nearly all microwavable dishes are made of, so yeah, I suppose you're right:D

TRENT
26-10-2004, 08:31 AM
Did you microwave the dye?

bunkerboy
26-10-2004, 02:23 PM
Boiled the water initially to heat it up, then added the dye. Then to keep it warm I microwaved a jugful every 5 minutes. I wasn't game enough to put the saucepan on the stove to do it. I'd really hate to melt the plastic, or cause 'crazing' So to answer your question, yes I did.

Jamie_Cracker

was it food dye or clothing dye

bunkerboy
26-10-2004, 08:43 PM
Clothing dye called Rit, available at your local supermarket or a craftshop near you. Just a pity the packaging doesn't have instructions for dyeing hoppers printed on it:p

Navy would be cool for an Egg

There's heaps of different colours. You just got to find a place that has them, not just the usual standards. I looked in 4 major supermarkets and variety stores (K-mart etc), before I found what I needed in a pokey little craft shop in Murray Bridge. Go figure:o

Yep it will, as long as the hopper is not clear, ie without any shade of colour, you will be fine

Like the smoke Eggy, it is practically clear, but because it has a tint, it should be fine...and if im wrong blame Mike, he told me

I hope so, but if not, atleast everything will co-ordinated, unlike me:o

Agg<< Me too! >>

I just bought two packets of red, so I'll give it another crack tomorrow. Hopefully the results will be more to my liking this time

Ok, I've had enough of this dyeing stuff. Even with two packets of red, it looks like this is as dark or red as I'm going to get this hopper. Although in the pictures it doesn't look much different, in reality it is...just.

Disassemble the Egg, prepare the dye as per instructions, then follow the instructions.
Or.
Buy a new shell.
