hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum but i am here because i wish to get into the paintball community. I am thinking about getting a paintball marker from this website through a registered firearms dealer of course: www.rap4.com
The model i would like to get is a rap4 rapier. This is a working paintball gun which is a 1 to 1 replica of the real M4A1 assualt carbine. It is available in select fire semi/auto and semi only. First of all, is it going to be legal to own in NSW provided i have a class A firearms licence? secondly, will it be possible, that, having aquired a Class A firearms licence instead of, to my knowledge, only the permit to posses a paintball gun, will i be able to own either the select fire or semi only markers? I would really like to get one of these as i believe they would offer an extra element of realism to the sport, with 20 round magazines, ejecting shells, and a realistic look and weight. great for simulation type game play. I have nothing against any other marker, it's just that i'd like to have one of these more. Your advice and input would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Forget about it you'll never get it through customs, all replica markers are illegal

Sorry bud but its illegal to have markers with multi firing modes like full auto, burst mode etc and replica markers are also illegal so no m4a1 replicas:(. Hope you do get into the sport though.

Sorry man but those types of marker are most definitely illegal imports here is a part of a fact sheet from Australian Customs. If you want to read the rest go to the link.
Fully automatic markers or those resembling
certain firearms
There is no provision in the Regulations for permission to be
granted for the importation of fully automatic paintball markers and
any markers that resemble a sub-machine gun, an assault rifle, a
machine gun, machine pistol or fully automatic handgun for
recreational use. Consequently private importers will not be
granted approval to import these.
For other uses, importers should contact the Attorney-General's
Department for further information about importing these items
before importation.

so, it wont be legal in NSW. what about gueensland or South Australia? Is it permitted provided it is only semi auto? or do they have the same regulations as NSW? Would the same be applicable to airsoft guns seeing as how they are full auto and resemble firearms? Why is the government so harsh on paintball markers and playing it? A paintball marker is not lethal, and if it is known to be owned by a responsible member of the community who has certification from the firearms registry and has the marker secured in an appropriate locked compartment that fullfills the requirements, i don't see why there is an issue. Maybe someone could rob a bank with one of these, but i'd rather be robbed by someone in possession of a paintball marker over someone with a real firearm capable of inflicting fatal injuries. As long as there is sufficient and adequete enforcement of laws, there wouldn't be a problem. I'd probably have more luck trying to obtain the assualt rifle this marker replicates.

A paintball marker is not lethal
Really?
The thing with a paintball marker, it's not just what comes out of the barrel that can kill you.

It is ilegal to Import that type of marker, this fact sheet comes from AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMS. Not a state gov.
Importing paintball markers (also called skirmish paint guns) is
restricted under the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations
1956.
To import this type of firearm, the importer will need to obtain the
written authorisation of the Police in the State or Territory where
the importer resides or the written permission of the
Commonwealth Attorney-General.
Single-shot, repeating-action and
semi-automatic markers
The importation of single-shot, repeating-action and semi-automatic
paintball markers including handguns (designed exclusively to fire
paintballs) requires the written authorisation of the appropriate
State or Territory Police Firearms/Weapons Registry before the
goods arrive in Australia. The written authorisation will be in the
form of a B709A.
However paintball markers that resemble a sub-machine gun, an
assault rifle, a machine gun, machine pistol or automatic handgun
cannot be imported with police authorisation.
Paintball ammunition and magazines (also known as hoppers)
require the written authorisation of the relevant State or Territory
Police Firearms/Weapons Registry (B709A).
Paintball markers are also subject to safety testing and, if
manufactured after 1 January 1900, require a unique serial
number.
Paintball markers are not controlled by Australian legislation on
export - but may be subject to import controls in other countries.
Penalty: The maximum penalty for importing these goods without
import approval is a fine not exceeding $275,000 or imprisonment
for 10 years, or both.

You'd have buckleys chance getting an M4 in Qld unless it was permanantly deactivated and you could prove you are a collector and it was already in the country (see the above post re: import laws). No airsoft No replicas No full auto not even anything that resembles a MG, SMG or Assult rifle. Sorry dude :( These sort of markers really look bad to the general public and they tend to trigger that whole tired "milita training" crap again. Not really a stereotype most of us would care to have re-invented. I'd probably give it up as way too hard. Unless you happen to be in the ADF or a State police force.
My opinion only... :p
Totally seperate Q. Has anyone had any problems getting Tippman A-5s in?
