My crew are having trouble filling our Co2 cylenders. We have just a standard Liquid Co2 bottle from BOC then we have a fill station fitted to that. You connect your cylender to the fill station, screw in the top thing, turn the bottle on and then pull the filling lever, it makes all the hissing sounds and everything, undo the screw thing and then vent the gas then unscrew the cylender from the fill station. After doing all this the bottles do not feel any heavier and you only get like 20 or less shots out of them??? Have we got the wrong big Co2 Cylender or what is it?
Joe.
Yeah you need a Siphon or dispensing bottle.
They have a tube inside that goes down to the bottom of the cylinder and draws liquid CO2 into the bottles your filling.
You can stand a standard bottle upside down and fill like that, but unless you have a custom bracket to flip and hold it, dont do it. Its not a nice thing if you drop an upside down cylinder onto its valve.

When you go to BOC next time you need to ask for a "082GE" cylinder,
As bill has said it is a liquid withdrawal cylinder.
It has black strips down the sides.

Well my mate took the bottle down to BOC and they said that we had the same bottle but the number you gave me was just te number for a larger bottle. So I have no idea what we are doing wrong. We may have to take the big bottle, fill station and small bottles to a field or BOC and get them to see what we are doing wrong.

did you chill the bottle before you filled it.
just put some co2 in the bottle and let it out to cool the bottle.
also if the bottle is still cold after filling it some times you will not get enuff presure out of it till it warms up.
its a good idea to weigh the bottle emty so you know when you have fulled it if you over fill it and it warms up you will pop the safty disk and that will scare the crap out of you

Mate a common mistake is to screw the top down to far to open the bottle valve. I real terms the gas itself will push through the valve even if you didn't screw it down at all. So try that, put the bottle on leave the screw on/off up or in the off position. Now with the dump valve open slowly screw the on/off until you hear the gas just start to escape from the dump valve close the dump valve and screw down the on/off a further 1/2 turn, crack open main tank( Food Grade CO2 082 GE) to fill. Close main tank, screw up or off on/off valve to close bottle pin valve dump gas from fill station (the gas trapped in the fill sttion between the now close bottle pin valve and the closed main bottle. Once the fill station has been dumped you can now safely remove your CO2 bottle don't forget to weight it to ensure you do not have an unsafe overfull bottle. the wieth 12oz, 20oz ect refers to the weight if the fil so weigh the empty tank then reset the scale or add the fill weight to the weight of the botle. Always ensure you are unscrewing the valve from the fill station/gun and not the valve from the bottle when unscrewint the bottle. If you are not sure or want to run through it with me come down for a vist at Skirmish Samford call first 0427 220009 a few of the guys will be out Sunday morning.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think the best bet would be to bring the main cylender and the small bottles to one of the fields and ask them to show us exactly what to do because it isnt the safest thing to be playing around with when you dont know what you are doing.
