The $200.00 entry for the 10 man State of Origin is for the Whole team (that works out at $20.00 per player) not $200.00 per player.

Deadeye
06-05-2004, 04:11 PM
will state of origin be each team plays the others once?

Mike
06-05-2004, 06:29 PM
Give a couple of days to work out a draw, I am thinking each team plays each other twice, and top two teams play a best of three final............
This means that you will play at least 8 games, depending on YzO finding 9 other guys from Tasmania (then you will play 10 games) plus if you make finals another 3. All in one day.

10 man format
Centre Flag
7 minute games
each team can have 2 reserves for their team. (12 players total)

First place - a great big friggen shield to defend each year.

This is not an APPL sanctioned event, I am not too sure what the APPL will be doing so I am going to do this as I see fit...............................

So it will be a "We Say So Event", why?

because we say so..................................

07-05-2004, 08:57 AM
so how is each state picking their teams, is there going to be trials for each state or will it just be Team Captains and a few of their mates, but we'll call it the state team?

just a thought... any captain care to comment?

just to add so people realise I'm not just trying to get a rise out of a couple of ya! As we have a reasonable time frame to sort this out the more proffessional we are about it then the more proffessional front we can take to the ASC (Australian Sports Commission) when lobbying to have paintball recognised as a sport. If each state can document the process of sourcing the state team and we can approach the ASC with this info... how good will it look?

Perhaps each State team should have a Captain & Coach?

Nice one Tyddy... my only thought with that is, some of the best talent in this country is probably yet to be discovered, they may not get a vote cause people in the loop dont know them!

Don't get me wrong that format is admirable but why not use this an an exercise to bring out some new blood into the top end of the game...

just my thoughts...

I just spoke to Gav and we do have a captin coach format going, Gav's the Captin and I'm the Coach (Whitey). Gav and I have discussed our strategy which will be revieled soon enough.
I would like to say that, the people/players which have played and made an impression at the top level in Australia will be considered first. I think this is only fair, we are out to win this event.
We will be looking for combinations, players which have played together before or still do, past history, current level of play, what position they play (we don't want all point players).
As it has been said it will need a lot of planning and I assure you it won't be jobs for the boys.

And Mike is playing for NSW it's not state you started to play it's where you currently reside. Mike's a turn coat.

If Tyddy is coming to a training day, where will it be held?
Not all Victorian paintballers play at the same field, some play in one place, others in the other.
Not trying to be a smart arse or start trouble at all but some will not go to the other field (Damm paintball politics! ).
If he is to in any way choose a team he needs to attend a training day at both venues.
Just my 2 cents....

i think recieving votes is just to get an idea of what to go off maybe. The problem with just votes like you said Pete we have some younger keen to learn and developing players in vic and they might lose their spots even though they play twice a month etc to players who havn't played since 01 and simply because those players would vote for each other and other stuff.

the things is guys, As Tyddy is Captain and decides that the trials are at a certain place then thats it if you really want to play for your state then you will put aside all the bullshit polotics and make the trials...

perhaps this will be a great opportunity to build some bridges....

I have spoken to all the Captains except for South Australia ( I still do not have a candidate for captain for there, any help people?).

they all have one common goal, TO WIN!

None have any intention of just putting their mates on the team, and this will probably give them the most grief of all.

Dman from West Australia had a great system, he rang up all the big players etc over and got everyone to vote. the 11 guys with the most votes got in. so they have their team picked already. It must be fair Matho got in!
Now before you ring me Dave, that was a compliment! He was picked not because of anything political (if anything it would work against him) but because the guys knows how to play, he got in.

I suggest you let your relevent state captain know that you are available, if they have a training day or meeting, get to it, if you get in great, if not as said earlier suck the cherry, take it like a man, come out on the day and support your state. there is always next year!

By the way, no one wants to play with me, either my birth state (QLD) or the poor bastards that have had me for the last 20 years (NSW). they have already both rejected me (NO! you should play for the other state). Just goes to show they don't know talent when they see it :fu: :fu: :fu: I hope Tasmania. wins

Looks like I will be reffing all three days.

Again if you have any questions then please feel free to call you relevent state captains.

P.S. With over 6 months to go I do not think it is too much to expect that each state will have their own jersey..........................................

Just to add a bit to what Mike said....Dman contacted a number of people around W.A. People who are in the sport now, people who run fields, play at the top level and are in the scene. All from various teams and/or fields. These people gave Dman a list of who they themselves thought were the best CURRENT players in our fine state. He polled the votes, it actually was tight between alot of people which called for more voting between the guys who had tied.

And don't forget, just because someone wants to play for their state, which I'm sure we all do, they must commit to it from whenever the team is picked. It's hard to know what will be happening in 6 months, it's a tough call..to say yes now and then 2 months down the track you have to approach your captain and tell him sorry, I can't go ! I think the guys who really want to be in it will make the effort to go to these trials or training days as long as plenty of notice is given and a central location is selected.

My 2 cents.

Wow I haven't loged in for alittle while and look at what I missed. Qld as a vast dept of talent to choose from so lucky we've got 6 months to sort it out. Between Whitey in north Queensland and me in the South East every one should get a look in. I'll start a thread for the Queensland team next week. But if you know you will make youself available give it some thought. We'll be looking for 4 front players fast tough surviors, 3 Backer rock solid paint throws with a good set of lungs and 3 Game breaking mid fielders something Queensland has in abundance. I'd like to see the players selected to suite the team than a team picked to suite the players.

Hi Dman here WA Captain, I chose 7 players from different teams and fields accross WA, I asked them to submit what they would consider the top 11 paintball players in WA, from thier responses I created a list of players, for each player that got a mention they recieved 1 vote. The players that recieved the most votes upto 7 were put aside, I continued the voting (with what players that were left) with the 7 players until I ended up with 11 of WA's finest players.

I hope this helps it worked for us.

Mike I think the reason SA players aren't willing to commit to anything yet is unless things change we currently have the last round of the SAPPA on the same weekend.

Maybe SAPPA dates aren't set in stone and things will change but (I'm guessing) most of the top players involved with SA paintball can't really put there hand up knowing it may cost there team a shot at our Div 1 title.

Maybe it was tounge in cheek but giving us a hard time about it probably isn't going to help.

No worries guys, it is not compulsory for every one to come. Just the ones that want to play the Masters or compete in the State of Origin. If there is no South Aussie S.O.O. team, then that makes my day and that of all the refs on the Friday a little shorter. Thanks in advance.

I sincerely wish SAPPA the best, hell, we (S.W.A.T.) will play at least one SAPPA event this year. There are no hard feelings. :bigparty:

p.s. in relation to the state laws in NSW, we spoke to the main advisor for the NSW Police Commissioner last week and he is advising the him to change our laws in line with the rest of the country immediately.........Ho Ya!

Considering that the SAPPA round 4 dates were posted at least 2 months before this Masters event was organised, I think it unfair that we drop our event and fly over to sunny QLD to play a 1 off. If SAPPA can be changed, you might see a team, but the committee will have to get together and sort it out.

If you want a contact for SA contact Adamage and he may help.

Look the Masters has not always been a APPL event.
The Masters, along with the South Pacs, are events with a long history in Aus.
The Masters has been on the same date each year except for last year.
I think SA teams like the South Pacs because they have won that event a couple of times whereas the Masters is a different story.

Chief Wiggum
10-05-2004, 01:18 PM
Nothing like a heated debate.

I dont really care what tournament has been around longer than the other, just dont expect SA teams to drop everything and run up there when we had our year planned. I would rather play SAPPA and support the league that has been running for the last 2 years than do a one off event in not so sunny Sydney. Thanks for the geography lesson Electro, it was a typo.

Wow...bit of a dilema boys....I agree with Souse, one weekend, 2 tourneys, make your choice. It's a toughy though..having played in SA, those boys do a good job and the Masters is an excellent event also with the Action boys doing what they do best. But it would be great to see SA put in a team for the State of Origin.

Look I agree totally. Not trying to start an argument, I have no problem with the masters and good on em. Hope everyone has a ball. And yes I agree that some people will have to make a choice.

My point is this;

SA players always get bagged for not turning up to interstate evenets. If you find that not many SA teams turn up to the masters, it will be because the SAPPA is the same weekend. So dont bag us this time, its not our fault.

Thats what I was trying to say. Sorry if anyone was offended.

Mike
10-05-2004, 03:43 PM
Everyone please stop bagging each other.........that is my job!

Yes, except for the Excellent guys in Team Welt, most of the other ladies do seem to have a problem travelling interstate. I know that the SAPPA event is on the same weekend and for that I am sorry.

I did not put the Masters on the same weekend as any event in S.A. to burn you guys or SAPPA but I had to put it on the same weekend as it has been on for many years.

Hopefully you can put all your detractors down by actually turning up to Gav and Tims for the South Pacs. If you don't go there either then you will prove a lot of people right. It is up to you guys now.

Action has room but its ALL paintball fields (53 acres of it). It's also only 30 min from the center of Sydney. Now unlike some of the villages you interstate people call "cities" Sydney is actually BIG, so 30min from the centre actually puts Action Paintball in suberbia.

There are camping grounds within 30min of Action however, dude save your money and rent a room.

If the NSW laws were different (still a few months before the masters but I guess nowhere near enough) then this state of origen event would be an excellent way to get some media interest into the sport. State of origin events are always big news and this could be just the thing to really get a big article on the TV, especially being the first one ever in Aus. and maybe one of the first Paintball State or Origin events (I know Xball was a nations cup first off and is now supposed to be city based but this is a true state or origin, how many Miami players are from Miami) in the world, as far I can remember anyway, I'm sure Pete Martin could ellaborate more on weather this has been done in europe before.
Anyway I can't wait for it, 20 players on one field going nuts for their states honour, very cool.

There are only a couple of rule changes from the NPPL that we will be doing.

So far

Clear and Smoke Hoppers are okay to use
Bottle Covers are mandatory equipment (insurance requirement)
No jumping over bunkers (insurance requirement)

We want to keep it where possible exactly the same as overseas to allow people to get used to the one set of rules.

I will get a final copy of the new rules and make them available of our new website as soon as pos, in the meantime go to NPPL.tv and download the NPPL rules and......................start learning.

What about padding on jerseys? Looks like NPPL will introduce a rule stating that it is only allowed on elbows/forearms? Is this correct for us?

Snippet from NPPL.tv/rules

9.09 Padding in Jerseys
Padding in jerseys will be limited to the forearm and elbow only. Padding size will be limited to 4” in over all width and extend from the wrist to 4” past the elbow.
Padding Material will be limited to an ESTHERBASED OPEN CELL FOAM Backed with a NYLON TRICO at a maximum thickness of 3/16 or an APPROVED EQUAL

The Ruling made and enforced in the NPPL Super 7 World Series 2004 Huntington Beach event was done so on a temporary basis to allow the Rules committee adequate time to properly address the issue of padding in jerseys. If you currently own a jersey that does not meet the criteria in Section 9.09, the jersey may be altered by having the padding removed.

The SAPPA members voted to shift the final round of the series, which fell on the same weekend as the masters. SAPPA round 4 will now be held two weeks later. This enables the victorian teams who play SAPPA and the SA teams to put forward state of origin teams. Also this helps the sport to grow as a whole as people don't have to compromise playing one tourney over another. They can do both - wallet withstanding.

If all the states would like custom jersies I can have them made at a reasonable price. That is with what ever you want on them. Your own design, names numbers State flag sponsors' logos if you have them etc. Just let me know and I can either give you some templates to look at or you can do one yourself. If anyone is interested I can give you a quote just email me the details or just tell me what you would like and I may be able to help you design it. This is not just for state of origin but also if any teams are interested in getting their own custom jersey/pants, barrel socks, hats etc.

I believe the $75.00 permit is per individual dude, I would even suggest you could save some money by one guy bringing in his personal 3 guns for the event with only 2-3 guys paying the fee for the whole team.

I know $75.00 blows but this is what they charge all shooting competitors that come into Aussie, not just paintballers. PLus I know that in the past we would have paid anything to be able to bring our markers into this country with out any chance of losing them.

Call me dude if you need any more info or help with Customs or the Firearms Registry. I am happy to help anyone coming to the SouthPacs and or The Masters.

And

We all got flights for $36 with Quantas Red Deals.

Only problem is that on top of that you have to pay airport taxes, stamp duty, etc and it ends up costing $59 each way.. :hammer:

Just booked my flight from the Sunshine coast to Sydney for $75 bucks.
(Thats great considering it costs $45 just to get from the coast to the brisbane airport by Bus).
