what was the playing surface like? It doesnt look like it was friendly at all.

think of SA, think of fine gravel.
Pray you dont have rain. and that is what its like.

if you slide - be prepared to get holes.

It worked for us, but you can't do Show Pony slides.

yes, surface is very hard, like concrete at this time of year so pads are a must. However it is fairly smooth and a great effort from Rooey to supply it to us.

Just to clarify a point. The surface is what is used as road base, and is therefore called, wait for it....road base. It consists of locally crushed limestone and is not the normally sandy soil found in these parts of Hartley (the true name of the area).

Sounds like your auditioning for SA Short Holidays segment "or otherwise known as hard-arse-ground"

To paraphrase you J, LOL!
I think I heard that the Roo boys are planning on dumping some topsoil on the field to grass it up though. Now that would be pretty damn cool!

lawn would be awesome but they would want to beat winter if they are trying to get it in for this year

It would be great.... Topsoil and Grass might make it easier to get those damn pegs out.... :hammer:

But whatever the Roo boys do we are just happy they have invested time and money into getting a kick-ass area cleared for us to use Sup'air on....

How about a nice layer of sand?
Too expensive?
Well, it would drain well wouldnt it?
Played at Strath a few times and love it there except for when the wind picks up....man at the last apecs you had to hold onto something or be blown away! Tyddys team mates had to hang onto him or he would have ended up in downtown Adelaide!
Are any more sappa tournies going to be held at Strath this year?
Hope so as its "our" side of Adelaide and a little bit closer than some other fields?
Hows about a tournie at Mt Gambier?....Please?!?!?!?!?!?
Longy is always keen to hold one and its a great place!
Love that open speedball field of his, well designed and built by the original top hat jokers wasnt it?
Hope to make it to the next one (was my sons 3rd birthday during rnd 1 so I couldnt go  )
Cya, Neil

Given the lack of suitable venues I am sure Strath is bound to hold more rounds.

And remember when its winter Strath is like playing on sand. Its hard to keep the barricades pegged down.

Doubt Mt Gambier is an option given there is no Sup Air area and SAPPA is using Sup Air for all its tournies.

"The evershifting sands of Strathalbyn":p
The surface would be good, but like you said Neil, the wind out that way can be pretty strong and unrelenting, so it would either blow away altogether or end up in drifts at one side of the field.
