Its off the shelf software, under $1000,

All edit cards etc tend you use it as the defacto standard.

They provide software updates and the tech forum is extremely good

Paintshop Pro is excellent for general photo editing.
99% as good as photoshop but just a fraction of the price.

yep PSP is the goods ... they even recently had version 5 for free on an Australian PC Mag.

Premiere 6 is what we used for the TG vid - I'm using 6.5 at the moment. (I tried out Pro but I don't think it produces as good a quality videos, especially during transitions, compared with 6.5).

If you want basic video editing, try Windows Movie Maker 2. It's a free upgrade to the original crappy one that came with XP and it's a bit of a no-brainer app ;)

Yeah I agree Premiere 6.5 seems to be the best currently for putting together movies.

Even if you're looking at doing a slide show with captions and a voice over.

I use Adobe Premier for all of the movies I have made. Ulead 7 is also pretty good, you can usually get it for free with magazines, I got a full copy from APC magazine a while back.
