Apparently the cost of a firearms license is about $160 in WA. Is it the same amout to renew every year? or is it a large once off and a smaller renewal fee?

Thanks guys

I wonder if anyone else got the new license form? I got it a few weeks ago. We actually get a proper license now instead of that dodgy plumber's receipt for a license...

Another $16 for this one.

Huh? we all have Firearms Extract cards (like a drivers license) but you still need the paper license so they can ammend it, otherwise they would have to print (and charge you) for a new plastic card everytime you got/got rid of a marker.

Once you get a renewal you will get a printed form as opossed to the hand written job.

Hmmm...that's interesting.

All I've got since the outset was a dodgy Firearms license (looks like a big receipt) and the Firearms officer told me that the government was going to give us "proper" papers like a drivers license. I guess this one would be my renewal notice as it says it's valid until February 2008.
So do we have to take a mug shot as well? I need a haircut... :)

Yeah the renewals will be printed forms akin to car rego papers, the plastic card needs a photo (I had to get a new drivers license photo done at the same time so I don't know if they will want you to get a new photo or not, but I think they would). I just went along to my local post office and had a photo taken as per DL's, couple of weeks later the card rocked up in the mail :)

plastic is only the extract that shows you are licensed to buy ammo etc..

the paper with the gun make model and serial is the acutal license - and its that one that you're supposed to carry with you when you have your gun in tow. (I keep mine in my gear bag).

The first year, its a piece of paper with handwriting - upon a 2nd year's renewal, it will be a printed sheet outlining your gats and numbers..

The card is just photo ID, On front of the card at the bottom it says warning this is not a firearms licence.
On the back it says cannot be used to obtain ammunition or firearms.

Just a note guys, One is not valid without the other. The cops pull you over they will want to see both the card and the piece of paper.

Yup, you must have both your paper license AND your extract on you. My extract lives in my wallet, the paper license lives in a plastic sleeve in my shotgun case which transports my markers.

speaking of all this licensing... i'm now at 3.5 weeks since i applied for an addition to my firearms license and STILL havent received approval...

My gun arrived in australia from the USA 10x faster than a piece of paper can go from warwick to joondalup and back to warwick... lol

Has it actually left warwick yet? I had a bit of screwing around to get my addition done as the station that I orginally got my firearms license at was no longer my "local" station (even though it was still closer than Kiara) but it was still through in just under 3 weeks..
