Just need to confirm this.
I was at my local field (deep creek) and someone said that you can’t use the a-5 in comps because it is illegal. I thought that the a-5 was mechanical and the only way to make it illegal was to add the e-grip and put it on anything but single shot. If its on full auto it would be illegal right?

it could be that they are confusing the illegal to import ruleing, they are legal to own as long as you buy one thats already in the country and yeah as long as its semi auto.

it depends on the competition and its rules, but yes it is legal in most competitions. just read the rules of the comp.

all A5's and 98s are semi automatic, which is laymans terms are all single shot

Maybe tell us what comp you are thinking of and we may be able to tell you if its legal or not. It would be fine for SAPPA.

ok so the a-5 is semi auto, until you add the e-grip right.
i heard that the a-5 does have a computer board in it, is this true?
IM pretty sure the electronics all come in the e-grip. And not in the marker.

I have an a5 with a egrip, and yes it is legal, only if you have it on, one pull, one shot.

yes , only if it comply with the rules
what do ya mean just play one pull one shot, cause you could just take the e-grip out couldnt ya and then the refs wont have to watch ya.

Probably not a good idea to be talking about unlocked egrips, they are illegal afterall.

www.tippmann.com go there read the manuals and do some homework on the marker, read the manual for the A5 itself and the E grip. brush up on your states firearm laws as well
E grips can be used in comps but as i have state, depends on the competitions rules, for example can use A5s in 4play but not with egrips

A 5's have a awsome feeding system faster you pull faster it fires most tourneys limet the a 5 to the mechanical triger as the e-grip trigger is real touchey for a faster rate of fire.

As said, it all depends on the torny/feild rules
it shouldnt depend on your tourney or comp youre entering in, it ultimately comes down to your state law on firearms...for instance in WA, it is illegal, FULL STOP. every marker needs to run on the rule, 1 trigger pull 1 shit fired. but like a said consult sate law before doing anything

Jewbag, I think what we're trying to get at here is that not all comps allow stock standard A5s to run.
There is conjecture over whether or not the feed system is truly fair to those that don't run force fed hoppers.
Yes, E-Grips that have the relevant settings are illegal. There is no conjecture over that. What is in dispute is whether or not the A5 cyclone feed system is equivalent to a force fed system on an electro, and whether or not it would give you an equivalent rate of fire.
I don't realistically think there is anyone who would think that an A5 with the stock trigger would achieve anywhere NEAR the rates of fire possible with a top of the line electro and a force fed hopper.
But then again, that is why this thread was opened was it not?
