The Second Round of Australia's Biggest and Best Tourney series, on what is possibly Australia's biggest and best field went off with a bang.
Both Swat and SS captains put their BALLS on the block and decided that a single, straight up gun fight would decide the fate of the world. The coin fell SS's way.
Congrats to SS, Bitchin and the Storm for their divisional wins.

I think thats the first time Menace hasnt made the final?
Go Bitchin...2 in a row..[borat voice]very nice[/borat voice]
Well we (the Mongrel Mob) had a good time. Lots of laughs amidst throwing a lot of paint.
We were down a player on more than half of the games yesterday and today but we thought..."what the heck...let's just enjoy the day"
Two of our players hadn't picked up a paintball gun prior to the tourney but still were willing to give it a shot.
It was my first tourney and I want to personally thanks Dman and Cheryl for convincing me to come along and play and for holding a truly spectacular show. The amount of work they and their team had to put in to make the weekend so enjoyable is beyond words.
:respekt: You guys are AWESOME! :respekt:
Sure we got spanked by everyone, didn't win a game, and heck, I don't remember clearly hitting anyone solidly. But it was a very steep learning curve for us randoms and myself. I hope I can put all of what I learnt into my game from now on.
Great to meet so many new people from all parts of this great brown land.
Well done all the division winners, especially Southern Storm. I personally appreciated just having a chat with you guys prior to our game. It just made the whole experience so much more enjoyable.
It was so refreshing to see such comradery. Keep it up!
Now, I just need some sleep...

To everyone involved in the Super7s weekend, thankyou all so very very much, it was fantastic.
To all the guys who make up Arora, we played out of our skins and finished third, great result, can't wait to gear up again for the Serpi Classic and then Gravity. To Bubba, Ozedge and Ben, thanks for your massive contributions over the weekend. You did alot more than just make up the numbers and if you are looking for a fulltime spot in a team, look no more.
To the guys from Menace, thanks for all your comradery over the weekend (though I thought you were picking up our paint tab after we beat Shenanigans in that quarter final.?.) It was a pleasure to meet a bunch of genuine top blokes.:respekt:
Special mention to Dman, thanks for being our mentor leading up to the tourney. We will seek your advice again for sure.:respekt: Also thanks to Logan and the guys from First & Only, scrimaging against you guys definately brought us up to where we needed to be.
And finally, Cheryl, thanks for supporting Dman in the way you do. The two of you make a very formidable team. Just keep him away from operating anymore heavy machinery.

Mark, I would be honoured to play with you guys in the Serpy classic and GG, you're all a top bunch of blokes and I enjoyed playing with yas immensely.
I would also like to say kudos to the boys from Menace, they're good at ball, they're damn funny (funny haha aswell as funny sounding :P) and I really appreciate the opportunity to play against them and SWAT.. invaluable experience! Likewise, thanks to Dman and Cheryl for their support and the effort they put in to the weekend.. I'm just glad it wasn't Dman that bunkered me when we played Menace

Congrats to Strategic Sports. Shame we were in a different pool and never had the chance to play against you.
I'm with Souse (in the other thread), the rules say the best of three games, so play it out (there was plenty of light for another 30 minutes at least, the 1.5 hour lunch break didn't help either). Personally I'd feel like it's a hollow victory coming first from only one game.
Field (Action Paintball Perth) 7/10 I know you're still rebuilding from the fire, but the field is looking great atm. Well done Dman, Cheryl and all those who worked hard to get this field up and running
Team Attendance 8/10 (21 teams, awesome, personally I would loved to of seen more, like x-fighters, Eth's super team and more local talent
Games 8/10 had a ball, a few tough games like Menance (came down to a one vs one, well deserved win Menance :respekt: ), SWAT (6 Shock players (without the "superstar") vs 7 SWAT players (with their "superstar") came down to a draw (suspect draw :thumbsdow ), and Bitchin (damn that game was hard, I can see why you came first in the semi-pro div)
Referees 1/10 disgusting :thumbsdow  Sorry but it was. There were a few good fair reffs there so I apologize to them, however the rest of the reffs have brought your reputation way down. I have NEVER seen such a bad performance from the reffs in all the years I've played paintball. I'll use a common term used in rugby league, if the ref is not noticed (and not even talked about) then they have done a great job, but when the ref wants to be the centre of attention, it brings the game down to a level that no one wants to see. I'm hoping that the reffs will assess their own performance and take the necessary action that is required. I love the Super Seven Series, I like the idea of "Reffs Inc" so I don't want them to disappear, but they will kill the series if they continue to act in this manner (in which I don't want to see happen).
Overall I had a great time. Great tourney, great field and some good ball was played. However I feel so embarrassed for Aussie paintball that the US (Carl) and SA (Frans) players who came down under to check out what Aussie paintball is all about.
I guess I should end this with a childish remark that only those certain reffs will understand. TWO FOR ONE...... You f#$%ing morons!!!!!! :fu: :fu: :fu:

That dosn't sound like a coin-toss to me, more like a spanking!

I personally cant wait untill there is a governing body for paintball like they have in the NRL, AFL, Horse Racing, and all the major sports.
This will then stop stupid and slanderous remarks from players as in all the other sports you would be fined and suspended for speaking out about, what can only be considered as sour grapes. You call yourself a sportsman, and all you do is put down the people that try to bring your sport to you.
No one else so far has supported your views about the reffing so are they true, or are you just saying it because you didn't win. :thumbsdow

Mate I wasnt there so I cant comment on the event or reffing but Simon is entitled to his opinion and has atleast put his name to it........I just hope he takes the time to PM Pete or ring him to let him know where he thought the reffing let him down......I do that for the refs every tourney I play. If I thought the reffing sucked I let them know and if it was fantastic I let them know too

Too True. But rules are rules - not that I am complaining!!! Finally a (almost) Brissy team wins a Pro event with a hint of Backla$h flavour (Dutto), but not taking away from Neil, Cam, Nick or Geoff's efforts at all!!!!
Anyone have a pic of the field???

Theres a time and a place for this sort of comment.
If there was a governing body for paintball this is where you would send you opinion to.In other major sports this sort of comment is called "Bringing the sport into disrepute". There are very harsh fine's and suspensions for this.
If a players in the NRL was to speak badly about a referee in a media conference
than this player would be delt with by the NRL. ie# fined or suspended.
The same would happen in any other sport.
I was involved with the Horse Racing industry for 16 years and if a licenced member of the industry would speak about/or to any of the officials/Stewards in this way they could expect a very long holliday.
This is how sports grow,by keeping this sort of disrespect out of it.

unfortunately I dont agree with the laws that the NRL or any other organisation has about being gagged and not being able to speak your mind.....luckily we arent organised otherwise I would always be suspended.....opinions were asked and he gave his and in no way brought the sport into disrepute.......last time I checked there was something called freedom of speech

i'll back up goony in what he says... the main reason it was poor reffing was because they were lazy, nothing else, they didn't get in and check players when they needed 2, they just stood there with their arms crossed and then made bad decisions...
but pete, jilli and one or two others still did a good job
It aint a fun or easy job - although that's not an excuse.
Bet you didn't think you'd ever hear someone from Backla$h supporting the refs......(I am enjoying a few Mad Monday )

You sad loosers. If a player called for a check it was done, alot of player checked and pulled themselves, which is what should also happen.
I dont doubt Shock wont be happy.
I pulled 1 of thier players for wiping, got aboused for it and even an offer for a fight out side. CLASSY MOVE.
For the record 3 players waiting for the next game came on and said i made the right call as they too had seen this player wipe.
I make no apologies for this. The player in question should apologise to his team as far as i am comcerned.
All the reffs had mics and communicated through the whole game. Standing in the middle of the field would only block lanes, then you would be saying the reffs got in your way.
Sharpy maybe you should come show us how it is done.
I can only but assume from your tears you also need to train a little harder.

i got my ref to ask a ref to get out of my lane and it happened, but i dont agree on the refs walking into the field when the tape player is eliminated..
dude it is imperative for refs to move infield...when they dont is when dudes get away with shit...you dont just stand there like an idiot you lay down so as not to get in the way and when you need to get up and chase a fool down to 241 him then do it and not care about who's lane youre running through...thats the game and how it goes...
and if players whinge about it then you kick them off too!

Gonna keep the honest mentality?
That implies they had it to begin with.
There are the good and the bad teams, and the good and the bad players....
Unfortunantly its always been this way.
Cheating by certain teams and individuals was rife in the late 90's.
While there is still a significant problem now, its nowhere near as bad now imho.
Its not just limited to tourneys either. last time we played a social game a couple of weeks ago we had a wiping cheating little prick on the other team (he's luck I didnt have my Mag with me :hammer: )

this happened in your game against first and only and it was my mate that shot him. in paintball you gotta take the shots when they're there it's as simple as that. it wasn't done with malice or viscious intent. they guys head was exposed so it got shot. as far as ethics go he apologised after the game and checked up on him the next day.

I knew it wasnt Carl as well.....I wasnt insinuating it.....I was just happy it wasnt one of the regular players that i would know
Im just impressed people are now actually getting caught and penilised.
Sorry for going off topic............
However, I personally believe the best way to stop wiping/cheating/playing on etc, is to have refs actually physically on the field during the entire game - laying down if need be. Thats how you catch them. Thats the mentality we (Backlash) took when we reffed round 2 last year and I didn't hear of anyone getting away with cheating or anything, despite several players efforts.
There is a really good article in the March issue of PGI by Dan Perez (NPPL TOP DOG REF) in regards to where refs should be on the field in relation to where the players are on the field. It shows where refs should move to during the game when players move etc.
If you're a ref, advance your skill base. That's what the players are doing - advancing. You have to get up.
I'm sorry but you can't effectively ref from the sidelines, just standing there.

dude it is imperative for refs to move infield...when they dont is when dudes get away with shit...you dont just stand there like an idiot you lay down so as not to get in the way and when you need to get up and chase a fool down to 241 him then do it and not care about who's lane youre running through...thats the game and how it goes...
and if players whinge about it then you kick them off too!
i understand refs need to move infield.. but just to stand there in my lane , if had crossed my lane to check a player fine, but he moved infield and stood straight in my lane and obstructed me from shooting my oppisition.

this is what makes the difference between a good ref and a shite one...i'll gladly eat grass so i dont get in the way and get lit up!

So you decided to take the field with guns that you knew were bouncing? And went on to win the event?
Not a good choice to make as a sponsored team, remember what you do reflects upon them aswell.

But i can watch 4 to 5 players if i stand up 1 maybe 2 lying down.
If you think reffing is a walk in the park / easy you have never done it properly.
It is usually the teams that cheat / play the grey who winge the most or just are not as good as they think when put in a bigger pond.
As for all the gun issues get the promotor / australian government to change the rules and it will make it easier on the reffs coz the players surley cant police them selves.

I would never do anything to discredit my sponsors as would my teamates, we had our markers checked by the refs. And All was ok  We as a team ended up changing the board settings so bouncing would not happen at all.
But I respect your opinion :respekt: As this is a good way to see anything in Paintball as you are always representing somebody.

it took me literally months to get my timmy dialed in to not bounce and still have a light trigger pull... and by not bounce, i mean it WILL NOT bounce... sure, if you every so slightly feather the side of the trigger it will fire 2 shots half a second apart, but thats all... and thats a result of the guns own movement combined with your finger.
Bounce is an iffy subject for sure - bring on the robot i say! =P

this happened in your game against first and only and it was my mate that shot him. in paintball you gotta take the shots when they're there it's as simple as that. it wasn't done with malice or viscious intent. they guys head was exposed so it got shot. as far as ethics go he apologised after the game and checked up on him the next day.
i got more pissed that a guy mugged my teammate shot him 4 times in the head/face usually i would aim at the back or back but meh like i said shit happens (i not saying its against the rules but ethics thing thats all).
Ok. i was the guy that got mugged and left a lil dazed and confused (well i kinda didnt remember what happened until the next day). as i said to the guys...its paintball, u go out there and expect to get hit. and when ur the last guy left u expect to get lit up. i made a poor move and a poor position in the bunker and i paid for it. the guy who shot me apologised and came and asked me how i was the next day. there isnt much more ethical or morally cool that he could of done and for that i thank him. and i give massive credit to all WA teams in the division...that was without question the hardest tourny iv played in. the quality of the division in WA is awesome and it will be great to see some of the kindred, aurora and storm boys travel over to the eastern states for some ball. also a massive kudos go out to the guys at action perth, cheryl, dman and grunta for all the hard work they put in to get the tourny up and running. and that grass leaves rouse hill a lot to learn from. bring on rd 3 and brissie!!

to have the full teams markers labelled questionable....tsk tsk tsk doesn look good 1 finger pulls or not it was the fact THE FULL TEAM had issues....

For drinking in the masked area a simple macroline through your grill makes a great straw. saves being abused when you lift your mask for a drink.

Great to see paintball conducted in it's truest form, podbeer jokes and players having fun. My first chance to go to WA and meet some locals. Congrats to Cheryl and D man for the huge job they did to bring this op to us all. Thanks to Grunta who spent time away from his family to help with the long hours and hard work. (He does tiles as well).
Congrats to Strategic and the boys for putting the win on the board. One game or three doesn't matter a win is a win and you put the tournament first. A bit disapointing that the Pro division got so badly squeezed for time. Hopefully a few lessons learnt for future. (more games on Saturday????).
Thanks to Jill for on field reffing and great to see Pete and the Chrony ref (sorry no name?)keeping things going off field or we could have lost more games.
Congrats to Bitchin for stepping it up for back to back wins and taking it from defence to offence. I hope some of the WA guys have had a taste and will come back to chase the wins. You guys are more than capable.
I will be posting pics on PBCHAT later so check it out and pm me if you want a digital copy sent out.

My $0.02 :bundy:
*****Disclaimer - this has no direct reference to the recent event Super 7s event. Just telling it how I see it as a player and a ref.*****
