THESE are the law enforcement officers you wouldn't want to be in the sights of.
For the past three days, some of the best police and correctional service officers have been shooting the lights out of each other - with paintballs.
Paintball, which finished competition in Kuitpo Forest yesterday, is arguably the fastest-paced sport being held at the World Police and Fire Games.
`It's just so quick, one second you're in the game, the next you're out," Santa Monica police officer Scott Pace said.
"You really have to keep your head about you, one wrong step could be the difference between getting tagged (shot) or not."
"That's why I love it, every minute I'm out on the field is such an adrenaline rush."
Games organisers said paintballing has become a world-wide phenomenon, overtaking snowboarding as the third most popular extreme sport in the U.S.
The object of the game is to capture the flag located in the centre of the field and hang it at the opposing team's end without being tagged.
The playing field is set up with inflatable barricades for protection against incoming fire.
Pace's team finished just outside of the medal placings in fifth.
"It's not always about winning though, it's more important to have fun," he said.
Two U.S. teams, Centurions Gold and the LAPD Centurions, won gold and silver respectively, while WA team West Coast Storm finished with the bronze.

And to top it all off, I approached the LAPD guys and gave them a challenge, their best 7 against 7 reffs, and we smacked them 3/1.
Go the Reffs.
It was an awesome week and I know that some of you would not believe it but we had the regional director for Aust Customs present medals to the winners, and that is something that I never thought I would see.
Big thanks to all the reffs that helped out on the 3 days and a big thanks to Adam and SAPPA for making this happen.

What an awesome 3 days of paintball.
Over 2 years in the planning and it went off without a hitch, Huge thanks to Dan "Chief" who was instumental in putting this whole thing together, couldn't have done it without you mate.... and sorry for not thanking you at the presentations :( :hammer: kinda slipped my mind at the time.
To all the dedicated reffs (even the one in the pink JT pants) thanks for putting your bodies on the line for 3 days. You would think these players would have some sort of target aquisition training ..... but no.... they just shot anything they saw on the field !!
All my runners, scorerers and volunteers  great job... and MC "where are u?" you did a great job too ....
The American teams from LAPD and Santa Monica were great, super friendly and great on the field. No drama's except for one bouncing angel which we rectified right away and with Skip on the chrono there was no way a hot / ramping marker was getting on the field. All the Americans were even getting Skip to set up their markers !! :respekt:
Great to see the Guys from West Coast Storm placing 3rd in Division A. I've got a list of their names.
First names only
Scott
Cameron
Damian

Dannie
Not sure who from their team had the white hopper but he played like a gun all tourney, got into the rollies and demolished the other teams.
So as a wrap up it was a fantastic event with everyone involved doing their job which made my life a whole lot easier. I even had the Director of the WPFG ring me to personally thank myself Dan and SAPPA for putting on an excellent event. (I'm still waiting on that beer he owes me) So to all involved you can be proud of hosting one of the best events of the games. Brittish Columbia in 2009 here we come !!

Hello All,
This is Damian from the West Coast Storm (The one with the white hopper :armed: ). I'll just start by saying what an awesome tourney it was, being my first and all. Everyone apart from Scotty Too Hotty were Tourney virgins and what a sweet way to start off hey!!!!
We had only been training together for about two months before the tourney and Scotty was the only one who had even picked up a marker. But after some quick lessons from him and Team Invasion we slowly came together.
The Centurions were awesome and very willing to give us some good advice when we were looking A little stumped.
Our back line was strong with Scotty Arnold, Cam Graham and Brett Abbott laying a heap of paint down the field while me and Yeuie made our way down the field doing our best to take out the competition.
After some awesome competition and nail biting games we managed to come home with the Bronze which was alot more than we expected.:bigparty:
Needless to say that after the competition was over, we all began to have withdrawls from the adrenalin and couldn't wait to get back on the field. We are already planning on going in as many tourneys as we can to prepare ourselves for the next WPFG in British Columbia in 2009.We'll try for the Gold this time.
A huge thanks to all those responsible for organising the event and to all the competitors. Great job by the ref's who were on the ball the whole time.
A big thanks to Kendo and the others at WASP in Canningvale WA for the support, guidance and good deals while we were training there. It's an awesome field with some outstanding players if anyone is interested in coming over.:respekt:
An even bigger thanks to Scotty Arnold who made all this possible for the 5 of us, he got the idea going and organised the majority of the trip. He leant a heap of his gear to the guys as most of us didn't have anything to start with. Without the big fella barking orders on the back line i reckon all we would have come back with was a heap of bruises!!! Cheers Scotty.
And to finish it off, I was using a MacDev Cyborg 07 which I recently bought, and man does it rip!!! Anyone in the market for a new marker should check them out:clap:
Catch you on the field.

No Parko Larko, its because of your two left digits is why it rips!!
But yeah, great effort by all the boys and it was a great learning curve which for most of us was our first tourny.
Big thanks to Skip for letting me use his pulse hopper and then have me return it with the feed neck snapped off, and then say "no worries, I'll get a new one!" What a top bloke. :respekt:
But a huge thanks to scotty for organising the rabble to get to adelaide, a lot of time, effort, and not to mention money was thrown in by him, and we appreciate it Nomes! :whip:
Hopefully I'll get my own gear soon, and meet the Wasp boys for a rip.
And Parko... wheres my money for the paint!?!!
Hey Guys!
This is Chris Corwin from Centurions Gold team. I want to say thanks to everyone responsible for the tournament. I know we (LAPD) had a great time. The hospitality was phenomenal and we loved partying with you guys every night. You West Coast Storm guys make sure Scotty too hotty sends me my jersey.
I am glad to hear paintball is taking off so well for you guys and we can't wait to meet up again in Brittish Columbia in 2009. I know we are shooting on sending 3 teams from LAPD for 2009.
Also the link for our website (if anyone was interested) is www.LAPDPaintball.com I think the guys running the site are trying to get it re-worked so it runs smoother. Also the pictures in the galleries are a little old so I will work on getting the guys to update some of the pictures as well.
I hate to keep re-posting but this is important. If you check the British Columbia 2009 World Police and Fire Games, paintball is not a listed sport. It is important that you australian teams that plan on going send e-mails to them expressing an interest in paintball. Pass the word and send those e-mails if you want to play paintball in 2009. We are already sending those e-mails from our side. Pass the word to those teams that may not be enrolled on this site.
