hey all im new to the forums
im 16 yrs old and ive played paintball about 5-6 times at a local field and i love it i mean who wouldnt
i have membership with ministry of paintball and plan on getting a bit more serious than just casual play
my question is whats an average price for starting up eg marker, hopper etc and the prices for all legal requirements
another thing what is required by me to own one other than have a gun licence and proper methods of storage for the "weapon" so basically what do i need to get started?
cheers guys

talk to the guys at your local feild
i am sure the guys will help you out
RE marker and gear it depends on what you want to spend
and what you want to play woods or sup air
you shuold get into it for 500 > 1000
dont for get the mask its a good start piont
ask to try some markers at your local club
most guys are willing to help
check out the for sale section on bills for some good 2nd hand gear
good luck and great to see more new players

Hey KoolKid
Yeah I'll back TOSSAs comments up 100%. I was a bit nervous asking the local players about gear and advise only to find that Paintballers are really nice ppl and are always proud to show off there gear especialy markers. I will usually put my marker together at the field I reff at so the punters can have a try of a tourney marker and there is usually a line waiting for a shoot. As Tossa said get a good Mask the best you can afford and like shoes try them all on just because its the most expencive it may not be the best fit. When ya coppin heat on a Tourney field or having to spend time walkin or waitin in the bush havin a comfortable mask is priceless.
Good luck and don't be affraid to ask and take heed of what people say also remember that the search button is your friend.
Kaff...

Deffinatly. The field masks might not seem that bad, but as soon as you try a mask that is of a higher quality, going back down is hard thing indeed.
With the licencing situation, you won't be able to get a gun licence until you're 18, so that means if you want to get a marker you'll have to talk to your local field owners and organise to have them store your marker etc. It's a hassle but the only way to do it. (Kinda sucks I know, being 16 myself, but it stops people who would ruin the name of paintball from getting there hands on markers)
What state/city/town are you in? If there's people on here who live in the same region I'm sure they'll be happy to help, so yeah.

Sounds like you need to drop into Paintball Petes at Mt White... He will look after you!
Ministry of paintball is a bit expensive, Check the distance between you and some places like:
The paintball place: http://www.paintballplace.com.au/
Paintball petes: http://www.paintballpetes.com.au/
In NSW you will need to be 18 to go through the whole gun licence thing so start saving early and as soon as you hit 18 contact the firearms registry.

Yes, as long as he had a paintball catagory licence (whatever catagory paintball guns come under)

Hey Koolkid
First make some serious enquiries, the guys at action are great and there products reflect there professional attitude but by going by my own experiences make sure you get good gear to start with. You don't have to spend thousands but a standard set-up equipment and marker ready to roll will be approximately $1k, this is not a cheap sport do not have any misconceptions that it is. I started with an Ion that was a great entry into the sport but quickly realised that there are better markers availible if I wanted to get serious. Saying this there are some top players using Ions but I found a marker that was more suited to my style/liking. You have plenty of time to look so spend it wisely. You will get lots of advise on which is best but its like comparing Ford to Holden to Subaru everyone has there own opinion and will argue to the death that theres is best as you would expect if you invest a lot of money into you equipment. No-one spends lots of money on something they think is inferior. I went for Aussie made as I am proud of what we produce and thus making support and upgrades easy but again this is only one persons view. Look second hand and don't be affraid to ask. A few things I realised when looking around:
1) Buy quality first it will save you money in the long run.
2) Anything over 20 BPS doesn't matter cuz very few can shoot faster and fullauto is not allowed
3) You can use a Tourney gun in woods ball as long as you don't play to much in the rain and water but you rarely can use a woodsball marker in tourney (ahh crap I'll cop it for that comment)
4) Advise is priceless
5) Don't look for forum posts of whats good in markers but those that are having technical problems.
Good Luck

Kidd, come out to Action on the 11th of March, and you will find a few teams training out there... If you want to try out my '06 Ego, thats fine, and I'm sure the other boys will loan you their Shockers, Cyborgs, etc...
It really is worth getting something better than cheap. I feel the cheapest gun you should get is an Ion. Anything less and you are asking for trouble.
What other gear do you have? If tourney is what you want to play, then start getting equipment now, like goggles, pants, cleats, air system, hopper.
You usually have to be an old regular here to get flamed too, no one knows you yet so you are pretty safe...

Younger players are the only way forward. Sure, people might flame you but at least you'll have the skills to pay the bills when you're 18 and can own your own gat.
Best of luck :)

I'm of the opinion that 13+ is good. Every 16 yo group I've reffed has been great. They respect the markers more than the Public Servants do, generally, and they are more willing to listen (i.e. Keep your mask on).
Those 13 year olds are going to be absolute demons in 5 years time when they hit their physical peaks.

Koolkidd,
Above all alse talk to players and field operators as they have expierence and knowhow.
Go to the Action Paintball training day and see what's involved with the different levels of the sport and talk to teams in those levels.

If the marker is under your dads licence he needs to be present every time you use it.

the best place to skill up is torneys or training days..
best setup well thats an opinion thing..
I've used cyborgs and Ions and niether have failed me, I bought Redz tourney pants cuz the were mainly black and came with a free barrel cleaner all for $69 (on special from Action) still use them today, finally got a reloader B hopper and use a Luxter air system, have accumulated 9 different jerseys fron Action, Ebay, reffing and team supplied, mainly DYE and Custom made. mask is a proto switch cuz it felt real nice on. The cyborg Sonics came from one Chrome working the payments off reffing and a Sonic Sunset secondhand with a Tadao board and barrel kit at a good price and a rare colour, couldn't say no to that..The Ion was my first Orange/lava with an american board..
But this is only my set-up that was good for me and woudn't be right for you cuz we're all different..

hey i was speaking to my dad before and hes a clay target shooter, he has a license and was telling me about how the junior shooters at the range also have licenses and how you only need to be 16 for a license.
im gonna go to the police station tomorrow for a full breakdown of the laws, fees and requirements
Most likley he is talking about a minors permit wich means you can shoot rifles etc under supervision by a full licenced person. They are for under 18 shooters.. This is for NSW.. I use to have one when i was 16 as I use to do target shooting at my local indoor range.
A minors permit doesnt allow you to own a gun but only use one.
Id suggest you save and continue to research exactly what you want to do and what gear you will need to do it with. Then when you hit 18 put your paper work in, wait 3 months then buy your marker.. By then you will already have everything else (pants, jersey, mask..)
