Hi Guys,
My name is Sam and im from a smallish town called Lismore just south of the QLD border, I play the odd game of bushball at my local field but i am considering getting a team together! Im just after any advice on how to get into it a bit more seriously, where is the nearest place to play against other teams etc.

A bit about me, im 20, Im a rifleman in the Army so i enjoy shooting junk, im quite fit (but have lost a bit over the christmas break, haha), i also prefer using the pump action markers when i play just to test my fire and movement skill against my mates

So any advice would be appreciated, and could someone please verify this, i read somewhere that no safe inspaction was needed for the purchase of a paintball marker in NSW, is this true?

Hope to share some paint with you soon
Sam

Hey Sam. Welcome:thumbsup:

As far as getting into the sport goes, depending on your intentions as far as commitment to playing goes, you can do it relatively inexpensively! You don't have to spend lots of money on a marker if you're not gonna use it enough to warrant owning it.
However, do not skimp on getting yourself a pair of goggles. Try as many as you can before you buy, see what is the most comfy for you, and don't think that paying less can get you more. In this equipment line, that just simply isn't true. You know how vital good vision is to shooting accurately, so don't sell yourself short.

As far as bushball equipment goes, if you wanna get yourself salivating, then check out the following sites...

Make your decisions slowly mate. Its a great sport, and for your intended outcome as far a practice goes, its very very good for that.

Post up regularly, keep us all informed of how you're going, and hell yeah, call up Mike and Dale at Action Paintball in Sydney. They're in your state, and licensing info is best sourced from those who are, and have been in the industry for quite some time.

Sam,

Welcome its good to see players joining paintball.

The other guys have suggested most of the info you will need - dont be afraid to ask anything - its never a dumb question here. My only warning is that the sport is addicative and you keep wanting more gear ..

If you are interested in Bushball then you might want to check out the big game shortly at Coffs Harbour, all the info is here -> http://www.billspaintball.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=9831
Guys from all over should be there ..

Otherwise i hope to see you on a field sometime soon ..

damm good idea.

Ok in nsw you will need a level 2 firearm safe to store semi auto paintball marker.
level 1 for pump action.

Costed me $99 to do my saftey course (my local rifle shooting range).
Licence isnt much.

Call firearms registry and they will give you all the info and tell you the process.

Unfortunately the qualifications i have through the army are non transferrable so i have to go through the same process as everyone else. I mean, the Australian government trusts me with the most destructive weapons in this country whilst in uniform, but i still have to go through a basic gun safety course to get my NSW gun license, haha, oh well

Just be thankful you're not ACT, i hear it's lousy conditions for markers there.

Yeah Pup.
That's not the only example of Military training not being useful as "recognition of prior learning" so to speak...

ADF Pilot training doesn't automatically get you a Commerical Pilot's license either mate.

You can fly twin-engine fast jets for 10 years with the R.A.A.F., or glass-cockpit Hercs (which are so damn similar to 747-400 cockpits its not funny), or this, that and the other, and still not be able to get a civvy Pilot's licence straight up.

You'd think that Military training standards would automatically count for something wouldn't ya...

I believe he's in the armed forces and I'm always nice to him so he doesn't do any extreme waterbombing on my house:D

It wouldn't do to lie about your job in here as Australia's paintball community is so small and you would get found out. Anyway that's what Holly Valance told me when I gave her her daily massage:D ;) :p
