Have got this info second hand but apparenty Tobias Higgins from Team Tsunami was involved in a serious accident involving a bus in QLD. News reports say he's in a critical condition.

Can anyone confirm this??

I'm sure everyone in SA and those who know him wish him well and thoughts go out to his wife and young child.

From the Queensland contingent,

Our most heartfelt prayers go out to Tobias, his wife and family at this time.

It is gut-wrenching to see this happen at this time of year, and from the above link, his wife had just given birth in the same hospital where he is now being taken care of.

Lets pray that he comes good, and can be back with his family as soon as possible.:)

Yeah, It happened 2 weeks ago.
They're waiting for swelling to go down before they can wake him up.
Until then they won't know how good/bad he is.
Wishing Tobias and family all the best.

I'll be thinking of them and giving my kids a extra hug tomorrow.

Good luck to the Higgins family.

My thoughts and prayers are with Tobias and his family at this time, I hope he is getting better slowly, Tobias has always been a wonderful supporter of paintball, always having a go no matter what the circumstances. I know he is a fighter, hang in there and we hope you feel better soon.

Spoke to Kiam today (Wife of Tobias) and was advised that Tobias has awoken from his induced coma. It is still too early to tell how things will turn out! The signs are encouraging so far, however it will be a long road to any recovery and normality for Tobias and his family.

Kiam and Tobias now have 4 children and are doing it pretty tuff on social security benefits. The salvation army has set up an appeal and rendered some assistance to the family. What the family needs apart from your prayers is a van in which to get around. Within a couple of days I should have the bank account details from the salvation army so that any financial support can be directly contributed to the family should the paintball community wish to do so.

Yes yes guys and girls...

We have an opportunity here to give back to one of our own.

And if everyone on here gave $10, just imagine how much that would help.

I will publicly pledge at least that amount, and more if I can.

Lets see those details on the site soon...

i dont know if this would be possible, but i know that a lot of site owners are regs on these forums and my wife just came up with a great idea .....
what about if they did like a ticket raffle or something for say, a box of paint or something like that, tickets could be like $5 each and all the proceeds could go to the fund ..... if all the site owners did something like that, i think everyone would have a spare $5 and i also think that there could be quite a lot of money to go to the fund.

A tourney sounds awsome....I am up for that

The Camo Kid
03-01-2007, 09:01 AM
the idea of a tourny sounds great, a guy i know off the spec ops forum did a raffle and a little tourney for a woman that lost her eye sight in one eye from idiots doing a drive by,

wasnt a normal tourney it was 3 man, teams consisted of people picked out of a hat, that way people got to spread out from their team, meet new people, help newer players, also no hoppers were allow, only 10 round tubes, the field who i think donated the paint for the tourney, it kept their costs down yet kept the money going towards donations high.

i think a Raffle is a great idea, the same guy who did a tourney, also got special ops to come on board and raffled off a custom scenario vest, made alot of money, i think if a field came on board and donated a mask or jersey would be great, if someone donated a marker for a raffle would get heaps of entries, and would be some great PR for the field

Willendorf
03-01-2007, 09:47 AM
thats a fantastic idea pup. i just thought a box of paint cause it is cheap for the field owners but people had the chance of getting something for their cash. i also think that for the field, if we call up the newspapers and tell them whats going on, we would have them out there to do a story on it therefor giving heaps of publicity to the cause AND the field. AND we could get out pics in the paper!! ALSO we could contact someone like Zupps and see if we can get them on board. that way they could have say a banner there for the day and hopefully they would give us a substancial discount on the vehicle... the lure of publically helping the comunity might be what we need to get them on board..

Hi all, just wanted to advise that I agree with Paintball Pete. Best to do something direct at this stage without getting too involved with the commercial aspects of paintball etc. Sammyboy from Team Tsunami is endeavouring to organise something in W.A and that has been sanctioned by the team.

Keep up those pledges and Kiam & family should have that vehicle in no time flat. Team Tsunami are also doing what they can to help. Any other suggestions should be posted to me in the private message section.

Spoke to Kyiam today and have been advised that support has been received from Brisbane paintballers (NB3 & co) for 3 days car hire..... thats great guys!
Also Kyiam has been able to put down a deposit of $500.00 on a vehicle that will ultimately suit the families needs. Nothing flash but it is a starwagon and will cost $5500.00 in total. Includes rego, insurance etc... no more to pay.

We still need to find the rest of the money by Tuesday next week according to Kyiam. Thats pretty short notice. I will check the bank account on Monday again with Kyiam. So to all those that have made pledges now is an important time to contribute.

Thanks again to all those well wishers and those that are able to contribute to Tobias and his family financially. Keep up the good work..... "Sammyboy you rock on and off the field dude" - great to have you on the team!

Hi To All Paintballers,
"im Neils Wife Caroline".
I Have Been Told That Kiam Picks Up The Van On Tuesday This Week. "please" If You Have Pledged Funds To The Tobias Higgins Family, Could You Please Place Those Funds Into The Account A.s.a.p. "as You Could Only Imagine", Having 4 Wonderful Children, One Of Them Being A New Born, It Is Very Hard For Kiam And Her Family To Get Around. (to All The People That Have Lent The Family, A Vehicle Over This Time), "thankyou Very Much", *you Are Very Kind Hearted People*. Kiam Does Now Need To Be Able To Collect The Family Van On Tuesday. When Kiam Collects The Van On Tuesday, She Will Have Transport Without Any More Worries As To How She Is Going To Get The Family To The Hospital, etc. It Will Be One Less Problem That Kiam Will Have.

"please Everyone" Could You Or Anyone You Trust, Please Place Your Pledge Into The "higgins Family Account" On Monday, So The Funds Are Cleared For Tuesday, And Kiam Can Collect The Van.
I Dont No The Family At All, But I Am Sure Everyone In The Paintball Community Is Thinking Of Tobias And His Family. If You Can Go To Tourneys, I Am Sure We Can All Dig A Little Deeper Into Our Pockets, Wallets , Or Purses To Help Out Your Fellow Paintballer.
"thankyou To Everyone" *i Am Sure Kiam And The Family Will Be Very Grateful For All Our Support*
I Will Be Going To The Bank Tomorrow, Hope To See You All There.
**thankyou Again To Everyone**

Hi All I Am Tobias Dad Ken Higgins I Am Here In Brisbane With Kiam And Her Kids Waiting For Tobias To Recover Sufficiently To Be Able To Fly By Air Ambulance Back Home To Adelaide-- It Will Be Some Time Before That Happens Probably Months.

Tobias Was Hit By A Bus While In Brisbane Working , He Has Had Approximatly One Eigth Of His Brain Removed As It Was Damaged Beyond Repair,in The First Operation They Removed A Saucer Sized Piece Of His Scull To Relieve Pressure On His Brain As It Was Swelling Beyond Control, It Was Then They Found Dead Brain Tissue And Had To Remove 50% Of His Temporal Lobe On The Left Side, He Went Back To The Intensive Care Unit After About 4 Hours On The Operating Table. Then 25mins Later Again He Was Rushed Back Into Theatre As His Brain Was Still Swelling And He Would Die If Nothing Was Done, So This Time They Took Another Sauce Sized Piece Of His Scull Out On The Right Side Of His Scull, and Again Found Dead Brain Tissue And This Had To Be Removed Also, around 35% Of The Right Temporal Lobe. After Another 4-4hours Operating He Was Returned To Intensive Care And Placed On Full Life Support. So His Injuries Are Very Serious. Since Then He Has Thank God Survived And Is Now Faceing A Long Hard Struggle To Try And Recover As Much Of The Old Tobias We Know And Love. The Suergeons Are Calling Tobias The Miriacle Man,as He Has Beaten All The Odds So Far Just By Surviving, and More,he Has Awaken, and Can Make Some Sense To Us,and Can Talk A Little Bit,and Has Just Started To Walk With Assistance Of A Nurse To The Toilet Ect.
So He Will Have Some Long Term Affects In The End But,we Are Very Very Hopefull That He Will Be Able To Recover Eneogh To Play His Beloved Paintball Again.time Will Tell.
I Want To Thank You All For Your Support, and Financial Help,as I Am On A Pension And Am Finaciouly Unable To Help Tobias And His Family Much, but Do What I Can.
I Must Say With Mates Like You All Out There Tobias Is Threefold Lucky He Has A Fine Wife, and Kids --- Great Paintball Mates ---- And
A Chance To Start Life Anew. Tobias Is A Fighter If Anyone Can Recover From This He Will,so Watch Out Guys Tobias Is Coming To Get Ya All,on The Paintball Battlefield. Finaly I Give My Fondest Thanks To You All For Helping My Beloved Son Tobias,i Cant Find Words Enuff To Express My Gratitude For All You Have Done-and Are Going To Do For Him And His Wife And Kids. Sincerly Ken Higgins And Family.

I think alot of support has come from people that dont even know him. I know i dont, but when a fellow paintballer is down it seems the paintball community can band together to help in whatever way they can. Previous to this incident i thought paintball australia couldnt have been further away from being a close community but it seems i was wrong. Great to see the support for a fellow paintballer.
Please keep us informed as to his recovery as we all want to see him back on the field again.

Guys, think of it this way...is it worth a case of paint to you to see Tobias and his family helped out?
Well, case of paint is about all you would need to donate in value to make this really happen for Kiam and her kids and Tobias too...he's a paintballing "brother", dig deep! :respekt:

I thought that I should post a pic from Tobias that may be of interest.
He first started to get noticed back in 2003 when he went to Orlando with our Team (Severe Australia). We played 5 man as well as Xball. Tobias is the one who is topless standing to the right of Ricky. Noticebly our team Captain is missing but that is another story. There has been many other tornies since....

Hello to all paintballers, iI no this is really short notice, but how about we have a GARAGE SALE this weekend to raise some very much urgent funds for Tobias family. neil and myself are prepared to have it at our house. Set up the BBQ or Fry pan if its total fire ban. sell snags in bread, soft drink, and bring along anything you want to sell, from paintball items (NOTHING ILLEGAL) to anything you want to get rid of. It is very obvious that Kiam does not have the funds to purchase the van, as "no name" has said earlier. if you are interested please contact either Neil or myself, and if we get sufficant people to do this, we can go ahead with it. it would also be nice if some raffles could be done, so if there are any operators out there that would like to put something into the raffles, it would be greatly appreciated. Your name will also be mentioned as a contributer to the raffles. we can even make a fun party out of this. so come along for a fun day out, bring your wifes and kids, we have heaps of play equipment for the kids to have a great time. All money raised will go straight to kiam and the family. Come over for a fun day. due to short notice, could people let me no what day would suit them.
Thankyou everyone,
Kind Regards,
Cazza (Caroline) My Mobile number is 0414 598 984. Lets do this so Kiam can purchase the people mover.

HI PAINTBALLERS AND FAMILYS,
SO FAR I HAVE HAD "1" (ONE) PERSON SAID THEY WOULD COME ON SUNDAY, FOR THE TOBIAS FUND RAISER.   :thumbsdow
IF THIS IS THE WAY ITS GOING TO BE, THEN ITS NOT WORTH DOING, THIS SUNDAY 14TH JANUARY.
WOULD IT BE MORE SUITABLE FOR NEXT SUNDAY, JANUARY 21ST.
*PLEASE EMAIL ME OR LEAVE A TEXT MESSAGE ON MY MOBILE*
0414 598 984 OR YOU CAN CALL MY MOBILE. "I REALLY NEED TO NO".
IF IT IS TO HAPPEN THIS SUNDAY, I NEED MORE PEOPLE TO COME ALONG AND SELL ANY PAINTBALL GEAR, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT YOU WANT TO SELL. YES ANYTHING, "NOTHING ILLEGAL" OR DIRTY PLEASE, IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN. ALL MONIES FROM SALES WILL GO TO THE HIGGINS FAMILY. THIS WONT BE AN EXPENSIVE DAY, UNLESS YOU SWEAR ALOT. THEN JOSHUA WILL BE RUNNING TO YOU FOR A GOLD COIN TO PUT IN THE SWEAR TIN.
IM STILL WAITING FOR ANYONE FROM PAINTBALLERS TO FIELD AND SHOP OWNERS TO DONATE AN ITEM/ITEMS, TO BE RAFFLED. EVEN A BOTTLE OF SPIRITS, OR A NICE WINE WOULD BE WONDERFUL. YOU MIGHT EVEN HAVE A BOTTLE OF UNOPENED SPIRITS AT HOME, THATS BEEN GATHERING DUST FOR 6 MONTHS.
FOOD AND SOFT DRINK PRICES WILL BE MINIMAL. WE WILL SUPPLY ALL THE LUNCH AND SOFT DRINKS, OUT OF OUR OWN POCKETS.
(WE DO NOT WANT THE MONEY REIMBERSED). WHEN YOU MAKE ANY PURCHASES THE MONEY WILL GO STRAIGHT INTO THE MONEY TINS. AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE TINS WILL BE OPENED WITH A "CAN OPENER", AND THERE WILL BE SEVERAL PEOPLE HELPING TO COUNT IT. ON MONDAY, I WILL DEPOSIT ALL THE MONEY INTO THE HIGGINS ACCOUNT, "AND PUT A COPY OF THE STAMPED DEPOSIT FORM ON BILLS PAINTBALL FORUM".
COME ON EVERYONE, PLEASE MAKE THE EFFORT. THIS IS ONE OF THE QUIKEST WAYS TO RAISE SOME FUNDS. A TOURNEY WILL TAKE AT LEAST 4 WEEKS BEFORE IT CAN BE RUN, BUT UNTIL THEN THIS IS AN OPTION.
KIND REGARDS, CAROLINE (CAZZA)

Hi everyone,
firstly, I would like to say that I am "sorry to all members", for what I have just learned. That SHOUTING is using capital letters. So I wont use capital letters anymore, o.k.
I have been given another idea for the garage sale. Instead of putting prices on items, why dont we auction them instead. Then people will only pay what they want to, and hopefully everything will sell. Depending on the item that is up for auction, we could start most auctions, at $3.
Does anyone else have any ideas that they would like to see.
I have another idea, be at Cranbourne on Sunday. Its closer than the field if you are coming down the monash freeway, or what ever it is called today. They keep changing the name of it, and my navman doesnt even know the name of it. The navman displays "unnamed road". If members want to do this elsewhere that is no problem, I was only trying to help

I came accross a website over a year ago about a girl from SA who fell from a balcony at a shopping centre who suffered Brain surgery. The website gives updates on her recovery and he like Tobias shocked everyone around her by surviving. It is a verry insperational story so if you are feeling down or just want some knowledge on what someone else went through in a similar situation please go to this site. www.symonerecovery.org.au Tobias may have even known her as alot of the guys from the South do.

Our thoughts are with all of you, Ken and Margaret, Steven and his kids, Tobias, Kiam and their four children, Mikel and Mia even Jess as I know what a big part of the higgins family you have always been. This is going to be a long and bumpy journey but you can all get through this as we all who have know you know there is nothing that you all can not overcome and Tobias isn't the 'Give up' type. Soon he will be back bigger and better making everyone laugh and playing paintball again.

Margaret hang in there you are a truly wonderfull person and a great mum to those four boys and they all love you to death even though they don't always show it but hey thats boys for you!

Hi everyone,
Due to only 1 (0ne) Person confiming that they would attend, I have had to "Cancel Tomorrow, Sunday 14th January". 2 people offered to bring along items to sell, and 1 person offered A raffle prize. I also had a raffle prize, that I had bought, but 2 items is not what you would call a raffle.
To Kiam, "I am so sorry this has happened".
I thought it would have worked out. :o Alot of people living in other states said that it was a great idea and hopped it would do well. To those People, I Thankyou for your support.
Unfortunately, I had no donations for the raffles, appart from the 2 items I mentioned, and "No One Emailed Me", "Phoned Me", "Or even left a Text Message on my mobile". :thumbsdow : Willendorf phoned me early in the week, with some great ideas. Thankyou Willendorf. Your ideas were great, and I thankyou for your support.
Kiam, again I am very sorry that this is not going to work out.
Neil and I will put in another donation, for Tobias, You and your Family. When Neil gets paid on Thursday 18th, we will Deposit $100 dollars into your account. Joshua, Our 5 year old son, has asked if he can put $5 dollars in as well. How cute is that. We will also put in $5 dollars each from our Twins, Luke and Nicole. They are 4 years old. That will make it $115 dollars going into your account on Thursday.
Best of luck to Tobias for a speedy recovery, and to you *Kiam* for being an "Exceptional Lady, Mother, Wife, and everthing else that you have to deal with at this very hard time. :respekt: :respekt:
All the best to the Higgins Family, :) :)

Hi Sammy,
I priced tickets on the internet last Nnight, so we could come over and help you out, "but" for the 5 of us to fly, 2 adults and 3 children, Melbourne - Perth return is going to cost "$4500". Plus accomadation, and a hire car, so we are sorry, but we just cannot afford it.
Would of been good to help out, seeing as Sunday didnt happen.
I am going to try and get some people over here to donate something, for you to add to the raffles or for prizes, or what ever you think of. I hope the ("Victorians") will donate something.
Come on all paintballers from Victoria, please donate something!
It does not have to have anything to do with paintball. A present you received, but dont want, a bottle of spirits thats unopened and been in the cupboard gathering dust, just about anything would be appreciated. Have a look in your cupboards and anything that is new would be great. The more items we get, the more funds can be raised.
Thankyou everyone,
Kindest regards, Caroline.

HI ALL tobias is doing as well as expected,in fact better than most would have with his injuries, probably due to his being so fit,and determined to get back to his beloved wife and kids. AND HIS PAINTBALL
i can now confirm tobias will be facing another big step on the road to his recovery,in the coming two weeks he is going to have another major operation [DREADING IT ?] but it has to be done, the two sauucer sized plates of bone removed from his scull are to be put back into place,we are hoping and praying all goes well and no complications will be a long operation, approx 4-5hours. i will update you all exactly when it will happen so you can all think of him at that time.and i will of course let you know when the operation is complete. thank you all for your support, and the coming support for tobias and his family in the tournement in febuary,THIS WILL BE A MASSIVE HELP TO THEM AS TOBIAS WILL BE UNABLE TO WORK FOR SOME TIME AFTER ALL THIS. he has a long road ahead of him when he gets back to adelaide in rehab ect. but i have no dought what soever he will be at paintball functions even if it is to be a spectator for a while. regards ken higgins + family.

hi all as promised i am back to update you on tobias's operation.
it was a great success according to his surgeon. he is pretty crook at the momment but thats to be expected, he went into theatre at 2-15pm and came out 7-15 so long op. the surgeons have said tobias will have a long recovery in front of him around 12mths, he will be able to go to paintball as a spectator, after about 2-3mths, THAT WILL REALY MAKE HIM ANGRY AS HE LOVES TO BE OUT THERE WITH YOU ALL PLAYING . BUT HE WILL HAVE TO REALISE ITS FOR HIS OWN LONG TERM GOOD.
his prognosis long term according to his surgeons and doctors is reasonabl considering his massive injuries.
he will probably have perminent headaches, some dizziness, problems controlling his hands from shaking, memory problems, and speaking and writeing.as he gets his words confused. BUT HEY TOBIAS HAS HAD ONE EIGHTH OF HIS TOTAL BRAIN MASS REMOVED, so he is doing remarkably well realy. so if this is how tobias is going to be long term WE CAN THANK OUR SELVES LUCKY,AS HE COULD HAVE BEEN PARALYSED ECT. SO TOBIAS WILL EVENTUALY BE ABOUT 70% OF HIS OLD SELF, QUITE REMARKABLE CONSIDERING THE MASSIVE INJURIES HE HAS SUSTAINED.
the main problem i can forsee ahead is holding tobias down while he is supposed to be recovering so he doesant hurt him self more, HE IS SUCH A LIVE WIRE AS YOU ALL KNOW HA HA.
WE WILL BE HELPING HIM AND HIS WIFE AND FAMILY OUT QUITE A LOT OVER THE NEXT 12MTHS. WHILE HE IS NOT ABLE TO WORK ECT. at this stage it looks like he may not even be ableto return to work at all ???? but time will tell. LETS HOPE,BUT MOST OF ALL I HOPE HE CAN RETURN TO PLAYING HIS BELOVED PAINTBALL,IT REALY MEANS A LOT TO HIM. well thats all for now,i will keep in touch and will definitely try to get to the paintball touurniment ,being held as a fund raiser for tobias + his family. IF IT IS AT ALL POSSIBLE I WILL TRY AND SEE IF TOBIAS CAN COME AND WATCH THE TOURNIMENT,[IT WOULD BE SUCH A BOOST TO HIS MORAL]. regards ken higgins and family

The last opperation I had was significant and the skull being placed back together was intense. Attending the tournament in WA seems intense with the pain caused. So I will unfortunately miss the event.

My hopes do go out to all but I hope the best teams will win.

Thankyou, Tobias Higgins

Garry from Team Tsunami went over to represent and make an impression, I hope he won but I am waiting for results to be placed.

Thankyou Garry, and all members of his team which I have not yet recieved information about, and many thanks to any others playing today.

Thankyou, Tobias Higgins.

Jeez, I just read through this thread for the first time.
Insane.

My 11 year old sister was hit by a car and was in a coma for 3 months, followed by a 12 month stay in hospital. Naturally, reading through the first posts of this thread I could not of guess the outcome I've read from the last few pages.
What a recovery mate! I'm not a regular on these forums and I know pretty much no one here but bloody hell I couldn't believe the increadable support I witnessed from the members of Bills. Very heartwarming and a gutwrenching read. I really wish I saw this thread earlier...would have loved to have been a part of this...
...mind you, my bank balance is getting dangerously low. :(

I saw Tobias at the Moama 3 man event on the 25th of Feb...he was looking really good and surprised me with how articulate he is! :respekt:
His hands were shaking most of the time and he told me loud noises can really upset him....but all power to him and I hope for a speedy full recovery....so I can shoot him! :armed:
 to Tobias, well done mate!

Thanks Niel, but I must say good luck to all who wish to step into a real dangerous game, imagine how nasty I will be getting back into the game provided I can handle it. :)

So good luck for your future paintballing. Thankyou Tobias Higgins (Looking for people to shoot... one day?)
