The Far North Paintball Championships were held at Cairns Paintball last weekend. There were nine teams in all from as far away as Townsville. It was a round robin format with the top 3 teams making the finals. There were plenty of upsets with the top 3 teams not making the finals. Check out the Results here!

I went down and cought the the APPL tourney in Sydney yesterday. Results are up on the results page.
It was a bit different from previous ones. All games were played on one field, Michael Wybrews newly aquired Sup Air field. The games on this field were quick, between 2 and 5 minutes each. (I think only one game in the entire tourney went to time.)
All teams played 18 preliminary rounds! Virtually everyone I spoke to said that though they liked playing on this field, 18 rounds on the same field was too much. A better Idea according to some was to have less rounds, but play on a range of fields like last year. (Discuss this in the Forums)
Either way, Im disapointed I didnt get to have a go on that field....Yet.

I only heard praise for the air filling station on the day. They hired a professional diving outfit to provide air over the weekend and it worked without a hitch. This is how it should be done at all tourneys.

What would an APPL tourney be without controversy? Not an APPL Tournry thats for sure :). Anyhow, on with the story. During the finals in the game between Rat Pak and Magnificent 7, time was called at 7 minutes, due to the time keepers stopwatch failing. After much confusion it was decided to restart the game with 3 minuts remaining, and put all the live players back where they were at time. Rat Pak went on to win the match about a minute later.(Discuss this in the Forums)

Another little snippit I picked up is that next year (to be confirmed of course) in APPL tourneys everyone will chrony on but no one will chrony off, unless the refs suspect someone is hot. The reasoning behind this is that the current situation is bad for spectators. For example team A maxes, everyone thinks they have one, only to hear 15 minutes later that they lost be cause of chrony points after the game. MAkes sense I guess. (Discuss this in the Forums)

And while where onto the rumours, Rumour has it that Vengeance has broken up for reasons unknowen.

And finally, the 1st APPL for 2001 will be hosted by Rat Pak at Moama or someplace like that. Some where that no one has heard of anyway. Details will be posted as soon as I can find it in my Atlas.

As of Midnight the Paintball Forums are now open. The forums are run off UBB, probably the most widely used and respected board software out there. There are several forums covering a range of topics.

The idea behind these forums is to keep Australian Paintball news and info flowing round now that there are no more local magazines.
Post about anything you like thats Paintball related. Got a tourney or big game coming up? let us know. The refs at the last game had guide dogs and white canes? come on in and bitch about it.
So what are you waiting for? Go there now!

Well the GST has been in for 2 days now and the sky is yet to come crashing down around our ears. Just like the so called millinium bug I think this will be all forgotten within a few months.

I have yet to confirm this yet, so dont take it as 100% accurate, but I have been told by several reliable sources that Sports Paintball Action magazine is no more. I have been given several conflicting reasons for this but untill I know the real reason I will keep my mouth closed.
This unfortunantly means that there is no Magazine dedicated to Australian Paintball. If anyone has any news, articles, info, dates, results, adds, ect that they wish to post please feel free to send them in and I will post them and try and keep some news passing around.

And on a final note, if you are looking for stores they are listed by state along with fields in the Paintball Sites and Stores directory.

30th of June 2000

Today we have lots of new entrys in the classifieds that should intrest players looking for both pumps and semis.
There are also a few additions and updates to the Paintball Sites and Stores sections.

The dates for the 2 final rounds of the Australian Country Championships have changed from my earlier postings. Check out the revised dates here.

I have finaly finished my InfoTech certificate course so I should have some spare time now to keep this updated on a more regular basis. On that note if anyone has any results, dates, general news please just let me know.

30th of May 2000

Just a few general updates today. We have new items on the classifieds page, a update on the Australian Paintball Laws page, and some updates in the Paintball Sites pages.

15th of May 2000

The Dubbo tourney set for the 28th of this month has been called off due to the weather. The road to the field is so bad a 4wd tractor was bogged to the axels and even if the rain stops from now there is no way the access is going to dry out in time. The tourney will be held again at a later date yet to be determined.
It was shaping up to be a great one too, with teams from Dubbo, Bathurst, Orange, Lithgow, Sydney, Canberra and Goulburn all booked in to play.

24th of April 2000

Ive just added to the Australian Paintball Law section. This section is a continuing piece of work and will be added to over the coming months as I obtain further information.

27th of March 2000

Ive just been looking through the latest Mac Developments Catalogue and News letter. Lots of good stuff in there. (If you want a copy give them a call on (02) 9531 5055). In the newsletter it has a great article on paintball seconds, and more importantly how to detect them.

Mac Developments are also proud to announce that they have added another 2 teams to their sponsored teams. They are Camp Tigers from France and Naughty Dogs from the USA.

Have you got an illegal air bottle? Mac Developments are selling bottles only from $300 which are Australian Compliant. Just attach your old reg and hoses and your set to go.

I have finally got around to putting a mild face lift on the site. Let me know what you think of it, espicaly the loading time of the menu bar.
There are a few broken links in the menu bar at present, to things like the paintball laws section. Im still working on those pages and will post them when they are completed.

A note to ICQ users. Do not use the paging feature on ICQ. My ICQ is broken and will not allow me to reply to the pager.

Well tonight I watched the episode of the Mole that featured Paintball. It ran for about 15 minutes or so. For those that havent seen the mole its a game show where on contestant is eliminated each week until there is only one left. This weeks episode featured the 6 remaining contestants having to cross an open field and then go through some bush in order to grab a flag. To make it interesting, if only one contestant made it they would get a big cash bonus for themselfs and be gaurenteed passage to the next round. The show actually showed most of the safety briefing at the start as well.
To cut a long story short it was interesting to watch, with Steve Ballis (From Magnum) getting 2 of them from a helicopter before they made the cover of the bush. 3 more got taken out by snipers leaving just one to get the flag.
Anyway, this episode showed paintball in a very positive light.

And finally for tonight we have some news on the paintball move currently under production called Speedball the movie. Check the site out, it has quite a bit of information on it.
The plot for Speedball reads like a cross between Karate kid and Days of Thunder, but dont let that put you off. If its done well It has the potential to be a good movie. If its even half decent we should see an increase in the popularity of paintball as people who see the movie decide to give it a go. It should also hopefully clear up some misconceptions that some members of the public have regarding paintball as well.

20th of March 2000

If your in the market for a tourney ready mag, check out our classifieds page.

Lots of interesting things are occuring in the APPL scene at the moment to say the least. At the last Tourney some people were refused Air refills because their bottles do not comply with the Australian regulations. Im checking into this and will post a follow up as soon as I recieve it.
Also at this tourney rumour has it that there was a punch up between a player and a spectator. Im not in pocession of all the details so I wont comment on it much at present other than to say I have been told that it involved a video camera in some way. Its also claimed that copys of this incident can be purchased on video for $10.00
Oh Yeah, tourney results will be up as soon as I get my hands on the full listing.

19th of March 2000

Results from the ACT round of the Australian Country Championships are up. This series seems to be getting bigger and more competitive all the time. Its also giving new teams a good entry point into tourney paintball which is just what we need.
The next leg of this series is at Dubbo on the 28th of May. Call Pete for more details on (02) 6881 8316.
For the full calender for this year click here. Its been confirmed that the Top Hat Jokers will be reffing this round, so we can expect fair and accurate reffing.

Just been looking through the Feb 2000 issue of Paintball Games International and noticed some interesting Paintball participation Statistics compared to other sports. Were number 4!!! Yeahhhh. Check them out on my general paintball statistics page.

26th of February 2000

Dubbo paintball has secured a round of the 5 man novice series. It is limited paint (300 rounds per player per game). If you dont have a semi it doesent matter, rules are 5 pumps, 3 pumps and 1 semi, or 3 semis only per team. Tourney is on Sunday 28th of May and places are filling up fast. For more info call Peter on (02) 6881-8316 and make a booking. Its worth going just to check out their new location and awesome fields.

Also, some more fields have been added in the field directory.

27th of January 2000

Just some housekeeping today. Ive changed from using frames to this layout using tables. Its similar but I think this layout will work best with what I have planned, but anyhow let me know which one you prefer best. Ive also updated the fields and stores page today.

If anyone has any paintball *.avi or *.mpeg files send them in. Im specifically looking for videos of funny incedents and cheating for a new feature im working on.

13th of January 2000

and in the first bit of usefull news for me from 2000 I have the APPL tourney calander for you. Please make sure to confirm all dates with the operator long before you intend to go, and remember that if you dont register before the cut off date, you may very well miss out.

OK this updating of the site is going somewhat slower than planned. At present not much has yet changed on the site, but the design work is coming along smoothly behind the scenes. Iam presently working on a page with a state by state summary of laws in Australia.

If anyone knows of any upcoming tourneys please let me know so I pass the word around.

On a seperate note, in association with NIA we have arranged a deal on site hosting for any paintball team, field, store, organisation ect. we can even arrange URL registration, setup and website design. For further details Email me.
